As Korean student, I haven't even heard of that strange custom... But some of my friends around me do weird things like not washing their hair or sleeping for 1 month before the test.
In some parts of Canada, people eat fish from the head downward. It's a folklore thing. 🇨🇦 And in Alberta, picking blackberries after October 11 is bad luck 🤠
As a Malaysian, we don't have toilets in Tidong, but don't worry, only there i think. I know we have toilets cuz im literally typing this while im waiting outside of one
I am too lazy to look up all the comments, so I'll write it here. The tradition of breaking porcelain before a wedding in Germany is supposed to bring good luck for the couple that marries the next day. Some even do it on the wedding day. It depends on which region you live in. "Scherben bringen Glück". It only works with porcelain shards. If you break a mirror, that seven years of bad luck.
As a Chinese person in Malaysia, during Chinese New Year, we would not clean the house on the first day of Chinese New year, as it will get rid of the good luck
In Taiwan (I think perhaps in parts of China too) if a person dies before their parent(s), traditionally the survived parent(s) should beat the coffin with a stick on the funeral. I think this is less exercised now as this is bad for the health of the poor old parent(s). Also in Taiwan, if a person dies on a mission (originally for military/law enforcement personnel only, but later expanded to public transport and other public-serving occupations like electricity), their commanding officer (or equivalent direct superior) must lead the whole unit to participate the funeral, where the commander will openly declare the mission has ended. We believe these "people of mission" have stronger sense of duty, and unless formally relieved, their soul would carry on with the mission and couldn't rest in peace.
Its not strange to the US but I know its strange to everyone else: We don't take off shoes inside other people's houses, unless the owner tells you too. Its a sign of disrespect as you are a visitor and not family/friends.
"Or is it something you do sober?"
