I loved the way the troops used to queue up to fight the guardhouses.
One of my all time favourite building games and feel privileged for playing it when I played it as a teen in 97.
Finding out that you could remove the disc while playing the game, then putting in a music CD was mind-blowing to me as a kid. Never did get very far and kept re-playing the first 4-5 missions, but loved it. And still do now.

Hell, I still play The Settlers games. Heritage of Kings is my favourite.
Also now with the history edition and the community patch for settlers 4 the series got a ton of new players in ^^

There are a few vids setting out how to acquire and install everything for the open source remake. Its definitely worth a quick search if you want to play it on modern systems

Love the vid! Love the game! Reminds me of my old childhood :) i just got a few questions: does the gog version of the game works on win 10, just out of the box, no emulator? And do u have a link for the mod/addon?
+Anders Holmgren It should do, its just a DOSBox wrapper but GOG have a 30 day money back garentee so if it doesnt, you can get a refund. By mod, do you mean the Gold maps? If so, there on the Macintosh Garden page in the video description's link :)
YesterYear's MacDude tysm sir! Gotta love the old classic games! More than 4 hours of gameplay than in some AAA games today..and u missing the link in the descriping :)
I bought this game for PC a few years back, but never even fired it up as I got so hooked on the original. This sequel seems a lot like the original with some additional spit and polish. That's nice, but then you went and pointed out my main complaint about the first game: the AI is dumb as rocks. I won several maps because the AI built itself into a corner, which sours the victory. I was really hoping they fixed that.
Interesting to see just how badly the game ran on 68k macs. The minimum on PC is a fairly powerful 486, a chip more powerful than the fastest 68040, and a lot faster than the minimum of a 68030. I would have thought they'd done something to lower the system requirements, but apparently they just slapped on a label and hoped mac gamers wouldn't complain.
Didn't know there was a engine remake. The graphics isn't as charming as the original, but seeing how easily you built those roads makes me very tempted to fire up GOG or search for wherever I stashed that gold edition.
The GOG download is just the game running in DOSbox so if you can find your copy theres not really any benefit to buying again aside from the convenience. The engine remake however is superb, in that clip I was playing as the Babalonians which was a brand new faction that they made, but all the original ones are there too so essentially the original graphics are untouched. It has some superb tweaks that make it much nicer to play too like manually upgrading roads so its definately worth trying out :D

after setterls 2 its not the same game animore. we only play settlers 2 me and my kids
