Sweetest thing ever, and shows how much your work is appreciated by your family. "As long as it's made by you, Dad, I'll use it." And what an AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL BOWL!!
I am glad we could talk you into making this beautiful bowl. Now I have a hankering for chips and dip.I quess I will have to make one myself. Keep up the great videos.
I’ve been watching your videos for a few days now & wanted to tell you how much I enjoy watching you make your creations. I also enjoy your wonderfully positive attitude and sense of humor. You make me smile every time I watch you create something. Can’t wait to watch more. :)
I laughed when you blamed us, your viewers, for what you would create. Truly a beautiful, and very useful, piece. Your daughter must have been thrilled to receive this stunning piece made by her Dad. A smaller version could be for a necklace and then earrings in the center. You have new options to sell now! 👏👏👏👏👏
Phil, your videos are very personable. You make viewers feel as though they are part of the show. I really enjoy watching whatever you put up. As a matter of fact, when I can't get to my shop, I'll watch your videos for ideas in the evenings. Keep it up because your subscribers love it.
Hi Phil... beautiful bowl... the spalting was amazing... great shape and you got a fantastic finish on it ... super shiney... great video...take care...All the best.....Andy
Wow Phil it came out wonderful for never having made a Chip and Dip bowl. I love the modified OG as well. Did seem strange seeing something round on your lathe but it was still as fun to watch. I also had a piece of the Norway Maple from Dave. I got that about a week after you did. It was the trip where we were going north and you came south. It had the same beautiful grain in it. Thank you Dave for this piece and the one you gave me. After the last few ones I did I had to break down and make a all round bowl as well lol! Coming up few week. I did miss the sound of Tick...pause...tick...pause..tick LOL Great job my friend, Gary
I hear ya, Gary. It felt strange to me, too! I remember you turned your piece of this awhile back. Nice wood, beautiful grain. We are lucky to know Dave! Haha, tick, pause, tick, pause... Made me laugh! Phil
Now that I have found your channel I am watching all of your videos that I can. I realize that this video was posted quite some time ago but I like the piece so much that I still had to comment. Hope your daughter enjoyed getting it as a gift. It was a gift to all of us who were able to watch you create it.
I am so happy I found your channel! I am an artist in a creative drought and you are providing great comfort through your work and creations. Thank you so much. I think you’ve saved my life :-)
Phil, I can't believe you gave into the peer pressure that easily. LOL. But what a gorgeous piece, my friend! I'm sure your daughter will love it!!! Billy
This piece "turned" out to be so beautiful like all your other creations. I am happy to be one of your followers that nagged you to make it a chip and dip bowl.you didn't go down easily but aren't you glad you did, it is absolutely beautiful!
You’re in the same shape as me. I have to run my turnings by my daughter all the time. Don’t know what I would do without her. Love your videos! We must be about the same age.
Phil, you should be very proud of the chip and dip bowl!!! It's a stunning piece of wood. You did a wonderful job of turning. I'm sure your daughter is very proud of it.
Nothing like a good chip-n-dip bowl for uninvited guests! Your daughter will love it! My daughter lost a precious cherry tree in her front yard and I have made many pieces for her and she always enjoys "dads" creations. 🍒🍒🍒
Thank You Phil, Thank You Dave, Calmwood Creations...I sure like that Spalted Maple. The grain is the star of the show along with a turning that is unique, useful. A centerpiece for the table and it is a beauty!....TM
I realise I'm over a year late to the party on this piece, Phil, but that was a really pretty piece of wood, it looks fantastic. If you wound up giving it to your daughter, I hope she likes it! It was real sweet to hear you say that she'd have anything you made for her, it sounds like you have a really loving relationship. Hope you're keeping well and merry christmas for this year if I don't comment on another amazing video of yours before then! :)
I like how you set it up that if things went south - you could pass the blame on someone else. LOL 😆 I think you should sign it Dad. I have some of my Dads books that we both loved so much and when he passed away I found that he had gifted them to me and wrote a little something in each one. They are some of my most cherished possessions. Boy the grain on that piece is beyond beautiful. I can see this piece being passed down for generations. How marvelous of a legacy.
I did sign it Dad, Glenda, and gave it to her for Christmas. She likes it and even uses it! Sounds like you and your dad had a great relationship, that's so important. I'm glad you have some great memories and now possessions. How wonderful that he wrote to you in the books! 😊
Oh SO, SO nice Phil. The spalted Maple is beautiful & the grain is stunning. I'm quite surprised, but delighted, by the areas of yellow coming out in the wood. How cool is that! Your turning skills are never in doubt, nor ever should be but your method of turning & talking your way through your project where you 'involve' us in the process. I really do love this piece Phil & I am certain that your daughter is going to be 'over the moon' to receive it. Keep safe, well & keep turning because we love to watch you. Cheers mate, Don from South Aust.
Looks like you found one of my custard cups in your kitchen, LOL! Well done, Phil. Secret to an ogee is that it is a wide half bead, connected to a wide half cove. And thanks to Dave for giving you wood for making something “useful”.
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Draw a bead, then draw a connected cove to the right of the bead. Cut off the left half of the bead, and the right half of the cove. Post on wall behind lathe. Then practice your beads and coves!
Simply amazing as always. Just started turning about 30 days ago but watching your vids I have quickly went to turning the oddest pieces I could find. So satisfying watching ugly chunks turn into fantastic plates and bowls.
Wow, Phil, that is just gorgeous! What beautiful grain! You did a great job of shaping it-that bowl fits perfectly! I’m sure your daughter would be thrilled to have it. Thank you to Dave for that beautiful piece of wood.
That is one pretty piece of wood, I enjoyed your hemming and hawing about not knowing what to do, that's pretty much all I do for everything that I make. That's why when its finished and looks as great as this bowl does, you feel pretty darn good.
I just got back from buying an antique lathe from a guy who is 89 years old. I'm 71 and if I can just keep turning for a few more years I will be so thankful. Thank you Phil for sharing so much of your time with us!
Hi Phil, I'm baaack! "Face mask on" Ready set go! 😆 Beautiful Chip and Dip. You did an awesome job. Your wife will love it. The wood grain and the yellow in it are gorgeous. Love it! Stay safe and we'll. 😺❤🤗❤

Hi Phil. Eight months later zI have just watched this video again. What impresses me about this is the range of skills on display. You say you are working out of your field of expertise but I can't see any drop of skills, of working through a project as you always do. I still think it is a stunning piece & I bet your daughter gets a lot of enjoyment using it. Take care & keep on keeping on. Don from South Aust.
Thank you, Don! She does use it and for that, I'm truly thankful. As you know, most of my pieces don't have a real use so it's nice to have something functional now and then. 😊
Phil for someone that doesn't know what he is doing you do fantastic. I wish you had live chat. That way I could talk to you. The bowl is absolutely awesome. God bless you.
Sorry, Phil, but you must’ve been listening to somebody else. I did not want a chip and dip bowl. I thought it would’ve made a great sombrero. Wonderful turning as always Phil. I'm presently helping a friend who has just started turning and we're having a ball. Last week we turned a straightforward bowl from zebra wood. I don't like to stand over my friend all of the time so I left him to hollow it out and then I heard a howl of disappointment. My friend had gone through the bottom of the bowl. I told him not to worry as he had merely created a "design opportunity". I turned a little ebony plug with some decoration and filled the hole. I told my friend to say to everyone that he thought the striped zebra wood was a little overpowering so the artist in him had come out and he decided to use the ebony as a contrast. He went away with the bowl like a cat with two tails to show to his wife.
Very Nice chunk of wood Dave sent ya You turned it into the Most Beautiful Chip Dip Bowl I’ve ever seen! Nice job! I’m craving some onion dip now i love chips and dip I’m gonna have to get some for sure today! Enjoyed it Phil 🤝
That really is a beauty Phil. I could hear all those followers of yours screaming at you to do the chip and dip bowl and although those voices must’ve driven you mad😉😉 I’ve got to say it turned out fantastically and I’m sure your daughter will be absolutely over the moon with that because I know I would be🙂
Norway maples are beautiful trees. I never thought the grain would look like that. Nice of you to make it for your daughter. A beautifil heirloom piece to be handed down someday.

Very nice grain in that piece! What a beautiful bowl you turned for your daughter! I would want it signed "dad" or whatever she calls you. Thanks for the video!
You brought the natural beauty out of the wood nice to see you doing something more conventional, hope to see more of it, come on you enjoyed the change admit it. lol. Bet your daughter was thrilled.
Wow! That is beautiful! Great job turning that and fantastic design choice. Leaving the dip portion in the middle allowed you to showcase more of that gorgeous grain from the wood.
I think your daughter must have a closet packed full to the ceiling with dad’s turned bowls! Hahaha. In all seriousness, this is a particularly nice piece. Thanks for the entertaining commentary.
You made me chuckle so many times. That maple was insanely beautiful. I'm sure your daughter absolutely loves it! I was bummed when you first cut off the bark, but it was worth it. So not like either of us.
Oh boy!! The voices told you chip n dip and you listened. Boy am I glad you did!! This bowl is so beautiful 😍 I'm glad you have such incredible talent Phil. I'm really glad you use your powers for good too ☺️
Just totally love how you blame us watchers for the decision to do this chip/dip bowl. My friend you did a great job. I love the yellow tints periodically throughout the bowl. What a great project. Keep doing what you do, its a pleasure watching your videos.
What a beautiful bowl! I would gladly use that in my home. Next challenge -- a nut bowl with the center almost like that except it has spaces drilled in the center for the nut crackers and accompanying tools. That would be very nice too. Keep up the good work! God Bless You!

You brought the natural beauty out of the wood nice to see you doing something more conventional, hope to see more of it, come on you enjoyed the change admit it. lol. Bet your daughter was thrilled.
Daughter was thrilled, I enjoyed the process but I can't promise more of this type of turning. It's just not me, Lewis! LOL!
Wow! That is beautiful! Great job turning that and fantastic design choice. Leaving the dip portion in the middle allowed you to showcase more of that gorgeous grain from the wood.
Glad you liked it, Ryan, thank you! 😄
I think your daughter must have a closet packed full to the ceiling with dad’s turned bowls! Hahaha. In all seriousness, this is a particularly nice piece. Thanks for the entertaining commentary.
She even uses this one! 😊

Just totally love how you blame us watchers for the decision to do this chip/dip bowl. My friend you did a great job. I love the yellow tints periodically throughout the bowl. What a great project. Keep doing what you do, its a pleasure watching your videos.
Thanks for watching, M W! I'm glad you like this piece!😊

Jim from Brisbane Australia here, great job your daughter will love that bowl, you have inspired me to have a go. Wish me luck I will need it.
You can do it, Jim! But, best of luck if you think you need it! 😊
What a beautiful bowl! I would gladly use that in my home. Next challenge -- a nut bowl with the center almost like that except it has spaces drilled in the center for the nut crackers and accompanying tools. That would be very nice too. Keep up the good work! God Bless You!
Thank you, Pixie! 😊
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome 😎
Thanks, thanks, thanks, Tony! 😊
