Our insurance agent told me that the Outback and Forester are the safest vehicles on the road today. A few weeks ago I was driving up our mountain road and my Forester started beeping and it applied the brakes. I never saw what it did, but my wife was about 2 minutes ahead of me and she saw a deer walking just off the road. I guess the Eyesight saw the deer and began braking for me. That makes 3 times now that the Eyesight has slowed or has caused my car to swerve from either hitting something or being hit by another vehicle. It’s amazing how safe our Subie’s are.
I bought a 2024 touring xt as well to replace my old 2010 bmw x3. I was spending way too much in maintenance the last few years that I might as well buy a new car. Even though I loved that car. The outback is so much smoother and the handling isn't that far off from my old car. The turbo lag is there and have experienced it a few times but it still gets upto speed surprisingly fast once it hits. I was looking and test driving so many cars before I finally just got this one fully loaded. Toyota rav4 or Venza, hyundai santa fe, kia sorento and a lexus rx350. The Toyotas had market adjustments of 5k above msrp and were taking forever to be made in the specs i wanted. The hyundai and kia felt terrible to drive. The rx350 was taking forever to be made in the specs I wanted and led to a not great experience with the dealership.. the outback fully loaded was only missing a few things that the fully loaded rx350 had , and personally had similar handling and suspension. Yes the infotainment screen is weak but I can live with it compared to my previous car that didn't have one at all. I do miss my buttons and knobs that control the radio and hvac . Overall I am happy with the Outback
It is a comfortable highway cruiser that can go outback. Having owned both the Forester and the Outback, I would say the Outback is more comfortable on the highway, and the Forester is more capable off-road. I know of no other car that combines those two driving dynamics together better and more economically than the two Subarus.
Bought a 2023 Outback. It’s not an Impreza. But, my family loves it. This is our second Subaru in 12 years. I still have my Subaru Forester. As long as you follow the maintenance requirements these are good cars.
I have this exact same Outback. I’m in a hot climate so a black interior was out of the question. I fell in love with the brown interior. Unfortunately I had to settle with the horrendous black exterior because it’d be weeks before my Subaru dealer could acquire the green color I wanted. I’ve grown to like the black after realizing it’s not a plain black, but in fact a beautiful metallic black flake. Best mistake I ever made.
There's no reason to "settle" if a particular color you want requires a bit of a wait. I've ordered numerous new vehicles & motorcycles over the years. Waited almost 9 months on a motorcycle and over 4 months on a couple vehicles.
@@danielfair4675 apparently the green exterior and brown interior Touring XT is a bit of a unicorn. I’m sure they’re out there, but not when I wanted it. I had a months time to locate one before I had to purchase, and all my dealer could locate was green exterior and black interior.
My grandma has had this exact car in white for a few months. I got the privilege of driving it. Unpopular opinion here, I really love the infotainment and the Apple car play works great, all the beeping is just part of adjustment and learning curve, it was nice to know what the computer was doing so I didn’t have any surprises. That said the driver distraction mitigation system is a great idea, but it can’t see your hands very well, so if you use the active steering and it can’t see your hands it disabled the active steering in a couple seconds. Sound system is great, seats are great, eyesight system is great, biggest complaint is the ventilated seats aren’t cold enough but it’s such a great car, highly recommend to buy one just remember to turn of the face scanner
You can turn off eye sight cruise by selecting the cruise control button on the wheel, and then push and hold the top distance button next to the cruise engagement button, and it will beep and turn off eye sight dependent cruise! As for the auto start stop there are after market ways of turning it off, but not permanently on its own. 😔 Thanks for watching! 🙂
I still love my 2023 Subaru Outback Touring XT. I’m going to wait until 2028 or 2030 before I buy a new Outback. Hopefully, Subaru will still be building them! 😂
Took 3 years for Subaru to sort out the infotainment glitches in my '21 Outback Touring XT, but the CVT responsiveness vastly improved and these days it's a capible, pleasant road tripper.
Do you find the Outback Touring XT noticeably quieter and more refined on the road than the Wilderness? Does the Touring have extra sound insulation, and acoustic glass on windshield, any more than what the Wilderness has?
I have the 2023 Black Beauty Outback Touring XT, I love the chrome on it, I'll probably wait to 2027 right before I retire before I look to trade it in.
Great video, thanks!!! We have a 2015 Forester that we enjoy and are looking for a replacement for our 2004 Odyssey (which was purchased new). Hopefully the turbo gets along well with Regular gas, as I've owned turbocharged cars that required Premium and that gets really pricey. Hopefully the newest Eyesight is more forgiving of weather and the setting sun. Our 2015 edition kicks off under those conditions, basically when you need it most.

I have been going back and forth in my head between this and the wilderness. I like wilderness’ payload and lack of chrome. However, it doesn’t have the cooling seats or the digital rear view mirror. And i find that black hood sticker ugly. It’s also on the Jeep Trailhawks and I’m not a fan of it on those either. A comparison video of those would be interesting.
That’s a tough decision for sure! That video would be cool, I might be wrong but I was looking into a trailhawk video recently and I think they discontinued that trim level on the new 22+ generation?

Background on me, I have a 18 outback touring and a premium 13 legacy. Headlights suck on the 13 which is the main reason for looking at replacing it. Only has 60k miles and I take care of it. I bought a 2013 Outback and it was one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. I love my Tacoma, which I bought in '18 and let the Outback go with a trade in for less than I should have and I now really wish I'd kept the Outback as well, but I didn't need two vehicles. I am so tempted to buy another one now that I'm retired and mostly use the truck for camping. I wonder why this trim doesn't have a full sized spare like the Wilderness model does. Based on the fact that this is the "top" trim, it's not making a lot of sense.

Of course! And that does sound like a sweet Taco! My last one was a 2017 Access Cab, I definitely miss it. When I sold it was when I switched to Subaru for the time being, starting with a 2019 Crosstrek. But for 6x,000 miles it was perfectly reliable. Thankfully I don’t drive quite that much anymore for my therapy work lol.
I think the pleather seats are much better. I also hate the Tiguan. The initial plush feeling of a seat is a deception, designed for 2-3 hours maximum. Try driving a full day on both seats (a cushy seat and a slightly firmer cushion) and see how you feel after. A slightly firmer cushion is better support for maintaining a healthy spinal curvature. I’ve driven 1700 mile (and many other long) road trips on VW Jetta Sportwagen (pleather) seats and was surprised how my legs weren’t numb and my back wasn’t sore. VW probably has some of the best seats in the car business. Probably other cars in the VW family. Volvo is another. Go try them.
Interesting that a muranoSL is equivalent to the Apex outback! muranoSL has all the same features and a panoramicmoonroof with more focus on luxury and street driving than off-roading it doesn't have a turbo, but comes standard with 260 HP V6( you trade the panoramicmoonroof &360 camin Murano for ventilated seats in outback for the same price. No one can deny Murano is the sexier crossover. So murano wind as the luxury alternative and a better daily driver!
Depending on if you’re in Canada or the U.S. the slight differences may vary. But the main standard features are shown on Subarus website for your region. But in the U.S. the main differences are ventilated seats, front facing camera, driver mitigation system, folding power mirrors. I actually have a 2024 Outback Touring video done that’s available in my membership program or I’ll make it public within the next 1-3 weeks probably! I just can’t post everything I have all at once. 😅
I traded my 2021 XT touring after just 18 months primarily due to the jerky acceleration so couldn’t take advantage of the turbo engine / CVT whine , rebooting infotainment and the Harmon Kardon amplifier failure. Otherwise a good ride, handling and the touring trim / Napa leather very comfortable .. Now I have a Genesis GV70 which lakes luxury and performance up to Mercedes level without the price. The ventilated / heated seats in the Genesis are far superior to Subaru. Just hoping it will be reliable in the long term
I was considering this trim in wilderness green. I’m coming from a 2018 touring 3.6R. If this is no longer the ticket can someone provide another comparable vehicle that should be on my short list. I’ve read the Audi A4 Allroad would be a comparable luxury contender.
I bet the Allroad is a very nice vehicle, but I personally wouldn’t want to bet on its reliability or resale compared to the Subaru. I’m sure a Mercedes wagon would at least be more reliable. But I’m rather ignorant of the German cars outside of the stereotypes I know in the car community. 🤷♂️😬
Audi? Do you know what happened to the last Subaru guy that got an Audi? They still have not found his body...LOL! German stuff is not cracked up to be what it once was. Yeah many moons ago the Germans were it, that is not the case especially when you are talking about the Wilderness, just go test drive one. I was a Subaru Forester XT guy and I can't believe what the Outback Wilderness has become! One last question for you to ponder, how many Audi's have you seen off road?
I am shopping used. Is there anything with the 2023 refresh that you think is a significant improvement. Is cabin noise and seat comfort the same as a 2022?
Nothing that I’ve noticed, but I also haven’t been in many pre 2023’s as I only started making car videos a year ago. I would just recommend buying a 2020+ model year to be in the 6th gen, and low enough miles that you still have a power train warranty for a while. 🙂

They’re both great! Only a few differences in tech/luxury vs. off road focus. I love the Wilderness but each time I drive a Touring I’m impressed with how nice they feel.
So how is the long long distance highway miles per gallon do you get in your own personal outback you own and what kind of OB do u own and what do you suggest what model to buy,iam thinking about one driving long distances around the US, iam retired and thinking about driving way way out west in the US to visit Colorado and those states out there from south Florida were I live..😊😊😂😂
I actually just uploaded a day trip (300+ mile) driving video in my Wilderness, and plan to post a 1,500 mile video in a few weeks. I love mine as a road trip car, it does great and if going 72mph or slower it I get like 28mpg. Personally, I value the benefits of the turbo models, but they can be a bit thirsty. Test drive a few and decide what speaks to you. They’re all great! 🙂
Oh it’s a day and night difference. Way smoother and more pleasant to drive and without crazy wind and road noise. The turbo Legacy Sport or Touring would also be a much more easy sedan to live with than the WRX. But at the trade off of a 6 speed manual and the experience of driving a rally breed WRX. I’ve always liked the WRX but at this point I don’t think I could justify owning one over a turbo Outback. Test drive both, and best of luck! 🙂
Personally I think this 2.4 turbo is pretty reliable. Especially when it’s maintained well with frequent oil changes and proper warm up / cool down time around drives. Best of luck in whatever you decide! 🙂
I don’t think I’ve ever driven an Avalon, so I can’t say. But if you’re interested in an Outback or any other car I definitely recommend you test drive it to confirm your thoughts/opinions or to get it off your mind. 😊
Subaru Owner here: I desperately wanted to love this exact spec’d car. Seating comfort and suspension are great. However, I’ve ruled this out for us as I hate the infotainment, each time I’ve driven one (between loaners and actual test drives) the screen froze or lagged multiple times and I couldn’t get Apple CarPlay to connect once. Throttle response is SO all over the place, very inconsistent. EyeSight is much better than previous versions, but still a few too many beeps for us. Build quality compared to our Crosstrek and our former (current gen) Forester isn’t as good, both front doors rattled at volume level 15 for example. Lack of storage (chapstick, candy, etc), it could use another spot. These reasons, as well as known issues/complaints with this engines oil leaks, some transmission replacements, rear wheel alignment issues, etc is why we’ve said no to an Outback. With my bad back and hips, the seat is nearly perfect, unlike all other current Subaru offerings. Really bums me out, as we’ve been a Subaru family for years.
I have this exact spec’d car. The suspension, turbo mpg, smoothness is phenomenal. The seats IMO are horrendous. The bottom cushion is too firm and thin. After driving for 4+ hours the pain in my lower back and bottom is excruciating. I’d give anything for Subaru to make a super thick, plush pillow-top seat.
Yes the infotainment system is a Joke. When we bought our Outback we had to choose between the 19 and the 20. We chose the 19 because at that time the dealership didn’t know how to navigate the infotainment system. Everything is so straightforward on our 19. It’s my wife’s car and she loves it so that’s what matters to me. Last year (2022) I was looking for a Forester Touring with the saddle Brown interior but was unable to find a new one. In December I came across a 2019 Forester Touring with the Brown Leather interior. It had only 4,700 miles on it so I bought it and saved $7K over buying a new Forester. I’m super happy with my decision to buying it. In 25 the Forester will be redesigned, and will be available with the Rav hybrid system, but it will also have the slow infotainment system found in the current Outback.
One thing I don’t understand is why companies refuse to listen to customers. Get rid of the cvt (offer manual in wilderness trims), and get rid of the tablet on the dashboard. A nice 7-10” screen will do fine but the climate control needs to be hard buttons. Also, the gosh darn auto stop start needs to be a permanent setting that you can turn off and leave off. More than half of drivers turn the damn thing off immediately, every time they turn the car on. …honestly, how much fuel is a 4 cylinder consuming at idle ????
@@tylers.2069 They put in the CVT because it’s cheaper for THEM, but they won’t pass those savings onto their “Valued Customers”. But for us to replace them, it costs us $8K.

I want to cheer on the perennial underdog, but I can’t. Subaru makes a pretty decent cheap car, but it always seems to settle on being a second-tier Japanese auto manufacturer that overextends each generation to maximize profit from mediocre designs. The Outback looks like a plasticky cheap car dressed up with some leather trim and touch points that are standard on VW and Skoda cars, if only we could import the latter to the U.S. I have plenty of criticisms for VW and their complacency, mind you.
I know some are going to complain about the cvt transmission but let me tell there's Huge piece of mind you have driving a Subaru now that all the problems that people with their cars you won't have any of it even when your Subaru is 10 or 15 years it will keep going

The seats can actually be raised up fairly high! But between Outback models I don’t personally notice the .8” height difference between trim levels.

Theres a 5th way to get into the liftgate- if you hold your hand (or shoulder) over the Subaru emblem, the door detects you (and the key) and opens.

And that does sound like a sweet Taco! My last one was a 2017 Access Cab, I definitely miss it. When I sold it was when I switched to Subaru for the time being, starting with a 2019 Crosstrek. But for 6x,000 miles it was perfectly reliable. Thankfully I don’t drive quite that much anymore for my therapy work lol.
I think the pleather seats are much better. I also hate the Tiguan. The initial plush feeling of a seat is a deception, designed for 2-3 hours maximum. Try driving a full day on both seats (a cushy seat and a slightly firmer cushion) and see how you feel after. A slightly firmer cushion is better support for maintaining a healthy spinal curvature. I’ve driven 1700 mile (and many other long) road trips on VW Jetta Sportwagen (pleather) seats and was surprised how my legs weren’t numb and my back wasn’t sore. VW probably has some of the best seats in the car business. Probably other cars in the VW family. Volvo is another. Go try them.
Interesting that a muranoSL is equivalent to the Apex outback! muranoSL has all the same features and a panoramicmoonroof with more focus on luxury and street driving than off-roading it doesn't have a turbo, but comes standard with 260 HP V6( you trade the panoramicmoonroof &360 camin Murano for ventilated seats in outback for the same price. No one can deny Murano is the sexier crossover. So murano wind as the luxury alternative and a better daily driver!

what's the difference between 2024 XT Limited vs Touring?
Depending on if you’re in Canada or the U.S. the slight differences may vary. But the main standard features are shown on Subarus website for your region. But in the U.S. the main differences are ventilated seats, front facing camera, driver mitigation system, folding power mirrors.

I traded my 2021 XT touring after just 18 months primarily due to the jerky acceleration so couldn’t take advantage of the turbo engine / CVT whine , rebooting infotainment and the Harmon Kardon amplifier failure. Otherwise a good ride, handling and the touring trim / Napa leather very comfortable .. Now I have a Genesis GV70 which lakes luxury and performance up to Mercedes level without the price. The ventilated / heated seats in the Genesis are far superior to Subaru. Just hoping it will be reliable in the long term

I was considering this trim in wilderness green. I’m coming from a 2018 touring 3.6R. If this is no longer the ticket can someone provide another comparable vehicle that should be on my short list. I’ve read the Audi A4 Allroad would be a comparable luxury contender.
I bet the Allroad is a very nice vehicle, but I personally wouldn’t want to bet on its reliability or resale compared to the Subaru. I’m sure a Mercedes wagon would at least be more reliable. But I’m rather ignorant of the German cars outside of the stereotypes I know in the car community. 🤷♂️😬

German stuff is not cracked up to be what it once was. Yeah many moons ago the Germans were it, that is not the case especially when you are talking about the Wilderness, just go test drive one. I was a Subaru Forester XT guy and I can't believe what the Outback Wilderness has become!
One last question for you to ponder, how many Audi's have you seen off road?
I am shopping used. Is there anything with the 2023 refresh that you think is a significant improvement. Is cabin noise and seat comfort the same as a 2022?
Nothing that I’ve noticed, but I also haven’t been in many pre 2023’s as I only started making car videos a year ago. I would just recommend buying a 2020+ model year to be in the 6th gen, and low enough miles that you still have a power train warranty for a while. 🙂

Opinion on 2024 Touring XT vs 2024 Wilderness?
They’re both great! Only a few differences in tech/luxury vs. off road focus. I love the Wilderness but each time I drive a Touring I’m impressed with how nice they feel.
You said 10-way adjustable seating. I think it's 12-way, no?

I actually just uploaded a day trip (300+ mile) driving video in my Wilderness, and plan to post a 1,500 mile video in a few weeks. I love mine as a road trip car, it does great and if going 72mph or slower it I get like 28mpg. Personally, I value the benefits of the turbo models, but they can be a bit thirsty. Test drive a few and decide what speaks to you. They’re all great! 🙂

Oh it’s a day and night difference. Way smoother and more pleasant to drive and without crazy wind and road noise. The turbo Legacy Sport or Touring would also be a much more easy sedan to live with than the WRX. But at the trade off of a 6 speed manual and the experience of driving a rally breed WRX. I’ve always liked the WRX but at this point I don’t think I could justify owning one over a turbo Outback. Test drive both, and best of luck! 🙂
I wonder should spend the extra money on a XT or the 2.5. More worried about reliability.
Personally I think this 2.4 turbo is pretty reliable. Especially when it’s maintained well with frequent oil changes and proper warm up / cool down time around drives. Best of luck in whatever you decide! 🙂

Is the carpet black or grey ?
I think it was a darker shade, closer to black from what I remember.
Comparing it to a Genesis- leaning toward the Genesis.
I personally like the chrome. Most automakers are getting as cheap as possible with boring cheap looking drab black or grey plastic
Subaru Owner here: I desperately wanted to love this exact spec’d car. Seating comfort and suspension are great. However, I’ve ruled this out for us as I hate the infotainment, each time I’ve driven one (between loaners and actual test drives) the screen froze or lagged multiple times and I couldn’t get Apple CarPlay to connect once. Throttle response is SO all over the place, very inconsistent. EyeSight is much better than previous versions, but still a few too many beeps for us. Build quality compared to our Crosstrek and our former (current gen) Forester isn’t as good, both front doors rattled at volume level 15 for example. Lack of storage (chapstick, candy, etc), it could use another spot. These reasons, as well as known issues/complaints with this engines oil leaks, some transmission replacements, rear wheel alignment issues, etc is why we’ve said no to an Outback. With my bad back and hips, the seat is nearly perfect, unlike all other current Subaru offerings. Really bums me out, as we’ve been a Subaru family for years.
I have this exact spec’d car. The suspension, turbo mpg, smoothness is phenomenal. The seats IMO are horrendous. The bottom cushion is too firm and thin. After driving for 4+ hours the pain in my lower back and bottom is excruciating. I’d give anything for Subaru to make a super thick, plush pillow-top seat.
Yes the infotainment system is a Joke.
When we bought our Outback we had to choose between the 19 and the 20. We chose the 19 because at that time the dealership didn’t know how to navigate the infotainment system.
Everything is so straightforward on our 19.
It’s my wife’s car and she loves it so that’s what matters to me.
Last year (2022) I was looking for a Forester Touring with the saddle Brown interior but was unable to find a new one.
In December I came across a 2019 Forester Touring with the Brown Leather interior. It had only 4,700 miles on it so I bought it and saved $7K over buying a new Forester.
I’m super happy with my decision to buying it.
In 25 the Forester will be redesigned, and will be available with the Rav hybrid system, but it will also have the slow infotainment system found in the current Outback.
One thing I don’t understand is why companies refuse to listen to customers. Get rid of the cvt (offer manual in wilderness trims), and get rid of the tablet on the dashboard. A nice 7-10” screen will do fine but the climate control needs to be hard buttons. Also, the gosh darn auto stop start needs to be a permanent setting that you can turn off and leave off. More than half of drivers turn the damn thing off immediately, every time they turn the car on. …honestly, how much fuel is a 4 cylinder consuming at idle ????
@@tylers.2069 They put in the CVT because it’s cheaper for THEM, but they won’t pass those savings onto their “Valued Customers”. But for us to replace them, it costs us $8K.

I want to cheer on the perennial underdog, but I can’t. Subaru makes a pretty decent cheap car, but it always seems to settle on being a second-tier Japanese auto manufacturer that overextends each generation to maximize profit from mediocre designs. The Outback looks like a plasticky cheap car dressed up with some leather trim and touch points that are standard on VW and Skoda cars, if only we could import the latter to the U.S. I have plenty of criticisms for VW and their complacency, mind you.
I know some are going to complain about the cvt transmission but let me tell there's Huge piece of mind you have driving a Subaru now that all the problems that people with their cars you won't have any of it even when your Subaru is 10 or 15 years it will keep going
