Natina Reed wasn't simply crossing a street. She was walking along a 5 lane highway in the middle of the night. There are no streetlights anywhere around, but there's also hardly any cars on that road at that time of the night. You have to work hard to get hit by a car there at that time. I live 2 blocks from where she was hit, so trust me, I know.
The term "one-hit wonder" doesn't mean that they only had one song. It means that they had one song which actually charted (according to the Billboard Music Charts Top 40) or a song a band is remembered by.

I saw Jeff Healey years ago as an opening act for ZZ Top! He had covered their song Blue Jean Blues on his debut album and the boys remembered that! Jeff was a monster performer !
The sad part for all their talent and sold record 80 percent if not more went to their label.... OMG they would all be multi millions if the internet existed in their time. YOU no longer need a label just access to the internet and you can sell your own music.
From all of this, 'Rapper's Delight' is the most memorable. I first heard it in a disco in Perth, Western Australia in 1979 and it became the only RAP song I ever liked. I still know all of the words at 65yo.
Sugar Hill Gang wasnt really one hit wonder. Rappers Delight was arguably their biggest hit but they also had a major hit with "Apache" APACHE! You know, the song from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air sitcom that Wil and Calton danced too. As in "Apache......jump on it......jump on it!" Yeah that was the Sugar Hill Gang. They also had hits with "8th Wonder" and "Rappers Reprise". These were really popular rap songs at the time and have since had their songs sampled quite a bit.
the death of Tommy Page has hit me hard as I have struggled with mental health issues for over 30 years. It landed me in resuss in hospital twice as a result. It shows that regardless of your career, social status or background, it can hit you hard and often times, you feel like there is only one solution. RIP to all those on this list.

It's what happens when they did not have hits on the "top 40" has nothing to do with race. The vast majority of heavy metal bands don't have any "hits" even though they sell a lot of records. Guess that's what happens when they tell "our" story.
