    The radio signal is an AM radio signal. AM radio basically utilizes long range induction to transmit sound. The signal from ft. collins is at a certain frequency that gets modulated in a certain pattern that the watches decode, like a VERY slow telemetry stream. The app is getting the time from a server and then using the speaker coil to create an RF field at the same frequency as the radio signal and mimicking the modulation. Really, really smart.
    Put a portable AM radio next to your gshock and press the mode button to trigger some beeps. On any AM frequency, you'll hear the beeps, at the same exact note and octave. Cool, huh?

    I am very stoked right now as I believe that this app indeed help synched my watch. Whenever I roughly set it when I first got it earlier today I set it to my car's clock. Which is positively not accurate. About 3 minutes faster. When my watch finally synched it is displaying the exact time shown on time/gov, up to like 0.2 seconds.
    So it did work. I don't know the heck how. Judging by how you need to hold the watch to the speaker it must affect it via sound, i don't think g shocks have microphones.(that would be terrifying). It seems to first use the much more powerful smartphone antenna to lock onto the radio station then somehow broadcast the info to the watch. How the heck does it do it with sound? I wish I know better.
    But that was a great relief and learning experience! Again thanks for sharing!

    I got a free app that does the same thing (Clock Sync) for my Casio Oceanus S-100 and it synced in less than 2 minutes. All I had to do was set the watch to R (ready), turn up the volume on my phone to max, place the speaker end to touch the watch, and after a bit, the second hand went to W (work), signifying that it worked. Easy peasy. I only got one successful sync with the Ft. Collins radio wave by placing my watch within my Terk stereo antenna and facing it to the window but it never worked again. Some folk have success by placing or hanging the watch on large metal objects like barbells, pull up bars in hallways, etc. This seems to be the best hack.

    I live in Portland which is about the same distance from the Ft. Collins clock as you are. Manual reception is always harder during the day because of other interference to the broadcast signal of the tower. That’s why when my Atomic watches sync with the clock they do it at around 2:00 AM when the signal transmission is strongest due to atmospheric conditions and reduction in interference from other radio waves. You should also keep your watch away from electrical lines in your home because they also operate at 60 Hz. I set my Casio on a table with the bottom or what would be the 6:00 portion of the dial facing the window and it receives and syncs with the Ft. Collins clock every single night without fail at around 2:00 AM. Yes, manual syncing is harder, but that’s because you’re trying to do it during the day when there’s far more interference. I also have a Sharp Atomic wall clock that also syncs every night without fail. Cool app though. I’ll check it out.

      Hi Steve, thanks for commenting. I have no success where I live getting the signal. Mine I think searches for it at 2am also. I must have cut that out of the upload. maybe because I live in a fairly densely populated area

    • @stevenwymor1398
      @stevenwymor1398 4 роки тому

      The Casual Watch Reviewer well it’s not so much population density but the electronic signal infrastructure that comes along with living in densely populated area. Population in my location is 2.5 million. You might also try a different cardinal direction in your house. When my watch is on the West side of my house it can almost never get a signal. But East or North is no problem. And the electrical lines run along the West and South sides of my house. The West is where the line from the street comes into my home. Keep that in mind too. Anytime voltage is running through a line, it’s generating a 60Hz sine wave signal. The higher the voltage, the stronger the signal. When you set the watch to manually receive, try walking around the perimeter of your house and see if the signal gets any stronger in certain directions. I’ve also found that sometimes it takes multiple attempts before the receiver in the watch can lock onto a signal. Good luck.

      In California you most likely benefit from the sky wave the most vs the ground wave. If the path between Fort Collins and your location is dark(nighttime), there would be less attenuation of the radio signal by the ionosphere, as it reflects back to surface. As has been mentioned, keep your watch away from electrical noise generators, such as fluorescent lighting, light dimmers, computers, leaky cable tv feeds, etc. Thunderstorms in the reception area can affect reception quality. Too, your home building materials will attenuate the signal. If possible, pop the watch in a window in the direction toward Colorado. Another trick to improve watch reception is to attach the watch to a ferrous(iron) metal rod, which might help to pick up more signal.

    Probably uses tiny emp from speaker coil. Then all thats needed is to generate a 60 hz carrier wave and modulate the carrier with same information format the radio stations use. Or the phone itself is receiving desired signal, with superior speed and reception of 5g, it's probably able to do real-time transmissions. I don't know how time is established via internet.

Dude looks honest and doesn't smell like a snake, watch looks great, everything seems to be working. Then I realized the auto EL doesn't work. Solar panel responds to light and that but the screen doesn't show 8888 when I tilt it under the specific test mode. Now I'm stuck on the verge. Is this a high end counterfeit or just has a rather common defect in its tilt sensor?? Only way to find out for sure is to see if it receives. Been running around town the whole afternoon trying to get a good reception. The signal level will fluctuate but never ever got a successful receive. Was getting a bit bummed until I saw your video. Downloaded a free version of such app and wroked on the second time. Now My watch clearly indicates that it has rced radio waves on 10:04 pm.

    If I bought an atomic timekeeping watch that I had to set manually I would be pissed. Satellite watches are more reliable at receiving the signal, but they’re not without mishaps.

    Well my watch is now over 8 months behind. Tried a few Android apps. They don't fix anything. Unfortunately this appears to be an app that might work if I get $1,000 phone to set my $100 watch.

    I thought this was going to be great, but honestly how is this really any better than setting the watch yourself? If you prize precision to the second, fine. But if you just want a hassle free watch the fact that G-shocks won’t update on their own is a problem. I wish they would just increase that atomic clock signal output.

    This is sync with the phone time, not atomic. Gosh, enter your phone clock app. Make sure it shows seconds, click the adjust button on the watch, wait until your phone shows 55 seconds, place your finger on the lower right button and begin counting along with the watch. Press the button when you feel it must be zero. If needed adjust minutes.
    Well done. Your time is synced.

      Hi, thanks for watching. This upload has over 25k views, a 97% like percentage and I regularly get comments from people thanking me for making this… or amazed they have never seen this app before. Your the first one to write anything sarcastic.

      @@CasualWatchReviews don't confuse sensible and sarcastic. And I didn't know that app is yours. Wasn't watching carefully. You made an app but not a difference. Using my method it took me less than a minute to do the same. Can you app do so?
      By the way, your app doesn't make atomic adjustment. Not only is it useless, but also misleading.

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews Рік тому

      It’s not my app, I actually said that in the upload.
      This app was very useful on a watch I reviews later on the channel. A citizen field watch that could only be set via the Japanese atomic clock. Full review on the channel.
      I had to use this app as I’m in the US.
      This is a very useful app so I created this upload to show other collectors, who struggle with this same issue.
      What have you done for the watch collecting community?
