Even with a few quirks shown in the video this is still very good value for money so check out my review and teardown so you can see for yourself.

    This was an excellent break down! My multimeter died on me right when I was about to finally buy an actual scope. So i went from needing an Osciloscope to needing a new MM and Scope. So my choice was to either buy a Fluke 115 and then buy a cheap single channel scope later or buy the OWON HDS242S. I know that as far as the multimeter is concerned the Fluke would have been a much better buy. But since im only using it for home use (i build guitars, guitar pedals and do guitar amp, pedal and guitar mods etc.) i could probably get away with a 20MHz bandwidth scope if i needed to. And as far as the meter goes i still have my first meter that i use as a backup. Its really basic and can measure capacitance or temperature (which is good for calibrating my Soldering Station so ill have to get another thermocouple device) but its accurate and built in such a way that when something goes wrong I can fix it unlike the meter i bought 2 years ago that just died on me. The one that just "died" started draining my batteries and i traced it back to a really really poor unreliable switch design. And even if i took the time to fix it id always be worried its going to kill my tenavolts or start a damn fire. So no more cheap meters for me. I might not be able to afford a Fluke 87 but i can at least get something that should be more reliable. If i have any issues with the OWON ill just get the Fluke 115 and a cheap single channel scope. Anyways, this really was an excellent break down and i found it very helpful and informative. Great job!!

    hello, do you know if this oscilloscope can detect voltage transisions clearly for communications such as spi, iic, uart, can, standart 802.3? I also require it to measure injection voltage to a dc stepper motor. Do you think it is enough for me or do I require one with a higher frequency and sampling

    Would of be useful to see how well the frequency bandwidth could reach with a stable reading and if it could read a 50Mhz square signal.

    Do you know wether the given max input voltage of 400 volt refers to X10 attenuation or is it the X1 value. I only found conflicting information about it...
    While the input terminals clearly say 400V the manual relates this value to an X10 attenuation??

    Thanks for the review. I would like to have seen various waveforms near the max frequencies of this unit to see how realistic its ratings are. The refresh rate example was valuable as update rate is always a critical test for these handheld units, but that's the only real oscilloscope test that we got to see.

    • @voltlog
      @voltlog  2 роки тому +4

      To sum it up, the unit does meet it's spec and Owon is a known manufacturer, there is no reason to suspect the specs are not real because they are building a brand, they are not just some no name brand that sells on Aliexpress. Unfortunately reviewing 3 instruments into a single video is not really possible unless a lot of stuff is skipped and the video already got too long.

      @@thomasw6169 There are also other relatively new reviews about this product like ua-cam.com/video/AFxSrieoI64/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/lbvqnWPC6iQ/v-deo.html
      The more reviews the better anyway.
      Personally, I think it is a really great value for money, I have found it is much better than what I thought.
      It is really an instrument and not a toy like FNIRSI-5012H which I also have but I was really disappointed considering its specification a few years ago and made a comparison (for myself) yesterday of my 5012H, Owon HDS272S and Siglent SDS1202X-E and found it is really close to what my Siglent shows within the Owon's specification but 5012H is really a joke and also the original probe of 5012H is crap while Owon's probe seems to be good for the product.
      Current revisions of this product seems to have faster auto set function and faster multimeter functions than older units - mine has the same speed like in the video, it used to be slower.

      Just saw jerry wong. Omg. Does this thing really have isolated channels ? That would be absoute killer feature.

    • @VaZso8
      @VaZso8 2 роки тому +1

      Channels are not isolated from each other but naturally isolated from ground as it is a handheld unit.
      Also, basically there is isolation between multimeter and scope part which is another question.
      So be sure to take attention of scope channels are not isolated from each other and one can make short-circuit with GND of channels and also it can be dangerous if one connects GND to mains.

    It's build quality is worse, Hantek 2d72 is much better or a 2c72 also can be converted to 2d72 it's muck cheaper, had battery drain issue and doesn't power on sometimes, and firmware glitches .. Internal board quality is worst.... Full of flux everywhere...

    • @voltlog
      @voltlog  2 роки тому +2

      I cannot comment on the Hantek units as I have not looked at one yet but as someone who has seen board quality from bad to very good, this one is up there between good and very good. There is nothing wrong with the quality of this board with the exception of that electrolytic bodge which has good soldering and adhesive holding it down.

If you have owon better don't buy hantek they both are same, better go for something totally different in higher range..

    • @VaZso8

      There were complaints about its speed and some late modifications on the board like more resistors on top of each other and some of them were soldered in strange positions.
      Since then, they have greatly improved speed and these late mdifications have disappeared except one additional electrolytic capacitor which would be a harder modification because of few space.
      So, basically these problems have gone and I find build quality is good.
