Wow, this gameplay was less crammed with info and HUD things. The new game looks like a generic ubisoft grind game... How did they manage to mess that up...
WHY? It's a pirate game! The whole point of piracy is to attack ships on the high seas. Complaining about a lack of land features in a pirate game is like complaining there aren't enough sea monsters in a western game.
I've seen too many games and movies and books where the actual fucking piracy was secondary to everything else. Too many pirates who don't do anything! Too many stories where pirates don't steal or kill and all they really want is adventure and freedom! I am sick and tired of pirates that are pirates in name alone! For once for very fucking once I want a pirate game where the focus is being a pirate. Not being some assassin fighting against some ancient evil! Not being a privateer in the name of hunting down the men who stole your family! I want a game where you can pillage and plunder the seven seas, pimp around in your own customization pirate ship. I WANT A PIRATE GAME!
I've been waiting for this style of a pirate game for a long time. The only other pirate game that worked for me was Black Flag. One thing I thought was missing from it was a good multiplayer with the ships. This game looks very promising. The only things I ask is that you can find players easily and have many different customizable ship types. Other than that, sign me up!
Please for the love of God get rid of the boarding cutscene, if you board someone you should be able to have control over your character in the fight and give commands to your crew during that fight
There are many things that they can take from Ac4 like rotating the wheel making it feel more heavy, this games wheel feels really light and many other effects from ac4 felt much more realistic
I just played the open Beta for this Game. And somehow everything looks soooo much worse then in this gameplay walkthrough from 2018. Ubisoft what are you doing?

R1 Geek I wasn't expecting Sea of Thieves at all, since Skull & Bones is a multiplayer game with pirate ships, it basically surprises me that there isn't any on ship Co-op, or at least from what this showed. Imagine how cool it would be for a AAA game to match make you onto a ship with 10 other people, instead of being locked in 3rd person all by yourself. All it really looks like is a Black Flag clone. If I really want to itch my pirate spot I'd just go back and play Black Flag for free.

Great to have some portuguese characters in the game but for obvious political reasons, we dont see the knights templar symbol, the cross, in the portuguese ships. Portugal always used it on their ships and many other things, even today its one of our main symbols.
Eh… I was actually more interested in this UNTIL I saw this gameplay video; the ships turn absurdly fast, and it all seems to be about stats and abilities, rather than actual skill, timing or tactics. Whether or not you land a critical hit should depend upon when you fire and nothing else; fire with the roll of the waves to fire high and hit the masts, or wait and fire low to hole the ship. Making this just another pretty MMO robs it of any interest for me. Sea of Thieves has major issues (namely barely any actual quests), but the gameplay feels a lot more skilful, as other players make the difference between an effective or weak crew, and even that I don't like since I hate having to rely on multiplayer to play.
Couldn't agree with you more. There seems to be zero skill involved in this so as far as clever seamanship and being a true captain go. Might be putting together a dev-team to deliver a "Squad" meets "Master and Commander" type naval combat sim for the Age of Sail. With full-size AI crews you manage/command as officers (players), requiring mastery of seamanship, gunnery and wit to outmatch your enemies. I also want to see realistic physics at work for cannons, wind and seas. The more of your crew you lose, the less effective you become at fighting/repairing. You can secure victory through disabling their weapons, killing their crew, boarding their ship, or of course by sinking your enemies. Of course if UbiSoft wants to take this on, that'd certainly save me the capital expenditures lol.
It feels like those MMORPG's except monsters/enemies are replaced with ships and instead of you controlling a single character with jobs/classes, you're controlling a warship. Though you can control your actual captain on land, it doesn't feel like its the actual focus of it. With how they did The Crew, yeah, I'm thinking this might be a stat-based kind of ship combat. I mean hell you ARE making your own ship, what easier way to implement a system like that other than a stats system. Still, like most games that releases a trailer like this whether or not they turn out to be disappointment or not, it's too early to tell. Let's wait for the finished product.
Just thought of this, and maybe it could be for DLC or a later expansion of the game, but I wonder how cool would it be if we got to see other pirates around the world?
