One excellent measure of how a super hockey star was measured . . was to what degree did he pull fans out of their seats, in sheer excitement and awe. The "Rocket" in Montreal was really the only one that came close to Robert Marvin Hull. The incredible combination of strength and speed, along with pure scoring talent, drew fans out of their seats . . like no other that ever played. Not Gretzky, not Howe, not Orr, NOBODY!!
And Bobby scared goalies more than any player. Goalies didn't wear masks or helmets in those days. One night in Chicago, his deflected shot sailed over three levels of fans, and dented the wall in the press box at one end of Chicago Stadium. His shot was timed once at 118 mph. That's two-fifths of a second for the goaltender to react AND stop or block it. Even great goalie, Johnny Bower, said that it could not be seen ('cause it was so fast) . . that, as a goalie, you played the angles and hoped that it either hit you or missed. But Hull did not miss the NET very often.
@@billdeblaey6078 Ya. I'm sure the 2 million dollars had nothing to do with it. Bruins ownership treated Bobby Orr horribly. He didn't take the money and run, until they didn't want him anymore.
The NHL owners treated the players horribly, especially before expansion. That's what led to the union being formed. The Norris family even treated Gordie Howe terribly. He was the greatest player in history and had to have a summer job in the 5o's to make ends meet. When Carl Brewer and Bobby Baun joined the wings in the late 60's Gordie found out the wings were paying them both more than him!!! So, why shouldn't Hull have left for the Jets??? He even gave the Hawks the opportunity to match their offer and they refused. Wirtz called Hull's bluff and lost!!
@@billdeblaey6078 I'm not blaming him one bit. I'm just considering the Chicago fans. I'm a Bruins fan and I think I'm giving the Blackhawks fans more consideration than Hull did. Allowing the Blackhawks to match that crazy offer...how big of him. Trying to get the same money from Chicago, how does that make him a hero. He gets the money either way.
@@TheNorgate We don't need you to tell us how to feel about our own players. We love Bobby Hull. And we understand why he did what he did, and we do not blame him one bit. Blackhawks fans would later also run from Bill Wirtz themselves. Abandoning the team bc of Wirtz's cheapness and awfulness - traded everyone, didn't put games on TV, etc. Mikita and Tony O stayed and that is fine but nobody docks Hull any legacy points for leaving. We understand bc we know the owner involved.
Jaime Faulkner evicted him from his home w the Blackhawks as soon as she took over. Fired him from the ceremonial position of team ambassador bc he was 'problematic'. Very likely contributed to his death by her actions.
Bobby HULL, without the least doubt: he was the greatest sports figure in his time...... Muhammad Ali, okay; ....... Joe Willie Namath?? -- surely you jest. You should have picked Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, or any of a host of athletes far ahead of Joe Willie..... who had ONE great year... in the media center of America, NYC. .... Big whoop!
What a great hockey player. He was the most spectacular player to watch.
Second best. Orr was the most exciting.
As humble as he is great.....
Budd Ha bobby was not humble lol
Just like his son Brett.
One hull of a player..

RIP Bobby Hull 😔
The Greatest Left Wing In NHL History
Помню его игру 1974 года ....
He walked out on his team and loyal fans in his prime. I don't get the love affair with this guy.
He left for the WHA because of how the Wirtz family treated him!!!
