Apparently this man is a Cambridge graduate, rowing champion, musician who mastered several instruments, talented actor who does a pitch perfect American accent, and whatever else I don't know. Ridiculous.
Did you think 7 years ago that 7 years later someone would read and comment on your post? Cause boom.
Did you think 7 years ago that 7 years later somebody would answer to a comment that said, “ Did you think that 7 years ago 7 years later somebody would read and answer on your comment? Cuz boom. ‘ Cuz boom.
@@pastelmoods3868 well i certainly wouldn't have thought that
He is surely a brilliant guy.. He seems to hv very good hold on the language and conveys the point bang on fr every question asked anytime and with right humor n sarcasm!! Real house!!
J T and he was a huge part of tv comedy back in the day from blackadder to a bit of fry and Laurie. He was amazing. And back then he was the boy faced characters usually being bullied by others. Laurie has a great gift for being punched he could play it beautifully. It may not translate to Americans but watch Blackadder season 4
Hugh Laurie is just... a genius. The born entertainer, talking like a waterfall, making everything up from scratch and throwing jokes - and really witty and intelligent ones at that - in about every 5 words. It's simply a pleasure to listen to him.
how the fuck is he a genius. You know he is not actually House right? so dumb
how do u feel after 14years
^^
ok dont say genius he isnt actually house. No evidence of close to that with him
The comedy team Frye and Laurie. Surprised that Frye never appeared on House.
"The open faced boyish hero" Gotta love Hugh Laurie.
I feel like House definitely ushered in the era of antiheroes being main characters
agreed
+MC MC I think what I like most about the writing of House MD is that while it shows that House could get results with his methods, at the same time it does not try to make him 'heroic' or justify his behaviour and personality. Hugh Laurie's brilliant acting and charisma helped a lot too.
***** yeah exactly. He was a tragic hero, or anti-hero, and you always wanted him to get better. While Cameron had the whole "I just want to fix" him phase, I'm fairly sure the audience felt that way too once in a while. But then you also got to the point where it was like "yes, wilson is right, he just likes to be miserable, because he doesn't like change and not being miserable would be change for him, so he sabotages every opportunity he has to be happy." He's such an interesting character and Hugh Laurie being the meticulous actor he is really always played the subtleties of the character perfectly. Plus if you're a medical school student, as I am, the cases are hilariously great review for classes and boards and sometimes equally hilariously wrong.
Medical student here too! Most important thing I've learnt from House has to be his logical deductions and observations in his diagnosis... not his methods obviously but the rational approach! Absolutely brilliant stuff
MC MC true. though the real first one if I'm not mistaken is Tony Soprano.
house started a trend and the funny thing the ones who followed his food steps became more dangerous and much darker: Dexter, Walter White and Don Draper.
it's crazy when you see Hugh's competition at the Emmys and other award shows his competition in the early seasons were much nicer guys like Jack Bauer, McDreamy and Michael Scofield and when Hugh got nominated in his latter seasons his competition became much more aggressive getting guys like:Walter White and Dexter.
but still I prefer Hugh as an actor against all of them and the same goes for the House character.
I am litteraly watching this after 12 years. 2020
I just binge watched House for the first time in 2020, last week.
hxhdfj ifzir st c you are so lucky! It’s pure pleasure ))
I mean. Anyone that is reading that comment is doing the same. Unless someone here is from the past?
Same here...funny UA-cam
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 how it was?
He speaks in full paragraphs rather than short, incomplete phrases. I wish that many of the people who are so famous in our culture of celebrity were as worthy of their renown as he is. I worry sometimes that children now grow up without any distinction between achievement and empty fame. Real accomplishments, modesty and dignity have gone out of fashion. Yet Hugh Laurie is a reminder of how great they can be.
Watching this in 2024. Got goosebumps seeing posting date - 15 years ago. Like whole past life.
Here in 2022 and still love House! Re-watching the series again.
2023
2024
2024
In every interview he's so passionate about his characters. He's so in love with acting. Really admirable.
at $309,000 per episode I think I'd be in love with acting !! (176 episodes )
@@tamsinmccormick That's only because it was an american and global success. It could have been a sleeper hit with much less budget and if the elements were the same, then he'd probably enjoy it just as much.
I watch alot tv show ,and every tv show has something best. Friends for their chemistry, breaking bad for editing, castle for castleness and house of card for the brilliance in screen play. But this one,i just love the characterization of house , he suffers pain to be a best doctor, he is being an ass to get best from his team. he is isolated to be rational. Its one of the best characterization ever according to me.
You are the first person that watches everything i watch !
My friend you have a great taste when it comes to TV series ! And i agree 100% with what you're saying
Ola Krawczyk thanks ;)
I love the dialogue in House. It's sarcastic tone with Hugh's brilliant acting makes it more fun to watch.
+red black Castle for "Castleness".Okay.
I'm still rewatching House for God knows how many times
I do that too, currently on re-run number 4😊
Me too! I think I’m on my fifth go round!
It's weird to hear him talking in his real accent rather than the American one he puts on for the show lol
L. Boer Yeah blackadder was just great, the 3 best english comedians join together. incredible
I'm not a native English speaker, but I always wondered if Americans spotted something strange in House's (Laurie's) US accent? He seems to be doing it pretty well!
I know I grew up listening to him w his American accent it's so twisting to hear him talk in his actual voice.
@@spitwmb3319 You're American though?
@@GodmyX, well I didn't catch anything, but just because I'm a native speaker (U.S.) doesn't mean I automatically speak it well, without any accent or quirks. For example, I don't pronounce the th sound.
Hugh Laurie's the PERFECT man for the role. If it was anyone else it'd never be this good!
"The show didn't try to be liked and that's very likeable"
If only more studios and production companies understood this.
If anybody on here has not seen Hugh Laurie in Blackadder then do yourself a favor and watch it, especially as The Prince in Series 3 and as George in Blackadder Goes Forth. It is the most amazing comedy like only the Brits can make.
Everybody should watch Blackadder goes forth, purely for the ending alone. It's a work of art.
Jeeves and Wooster as well!! Great comedy!
Also the tv show "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" which is where it all started for me watching Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie making me laugh so much, I actually bought a book of the script and used to play out the parts with a friend of mine back in my school days. Long long time fan of both those guys.
Simply one of the best shows ever.
this man could sell ice cube to an Eskimo
Or land to an Indian
I have never commented on social media thingy...
I would like to thank and bless All the extremely gifted people involved the fruition of the series house.
No words can suffice.
oh man I love the fact that Hugh Laurie accepted the role for House :D I can't imagine anyone else playing that role, he does it incredibly well and I hope it stays that way.
replying 11 years later... wonder if you thought of that happening
I love Hugh laurie as Dr. House one of my most favorite characters 💜💜 he is knowledgeable, intellectual, smart, caring in his own way, logical, daring, sense of humor and the list goes long.. also how the character developed along the seasons ! i miss the show soooooo much
When I went to school for my second job because I could not work as a chef anymore due to decreasing bone density, so I learned to be a clerc, yes, in germany, it's two, sometimes three years of learning both in an office and in a school with tests at the end, House was really huge in germany (late 2000s). I didn't have a TV and was not very interested at the time. I sometimes needed to use a cane and was always a bit grumpy because I was in constant pain and was not happy about this new job. My classmates called me House all the time. I did not think much of it. Last year I bought the DVD box and now I think it was quite the compliment!
First time watching House: What the hell, his voice is so weird! Why doesn't he sound british?
After watching House: What the hell, his voice is so weird! Why does he sound british?
Guess what nigga he's British.
deathpresent101 Yes, I know. I first saw Hugh Laurie in the Stewart Little movies and there he talked like he actually talks so I thought he sounded weird in House at first.
Deathpresent101 apparently didn't get the point, tryna be a smartass
SAME!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I couldn't see Hugh Laurie being any other guy character on House. House fits Hugh Laurie well. :D
Watching still in 2024❤
It's still weird to hear him talk with his actual voice. Not that it's notstill a great voice, it's just strange.
+Buck Rogers but still nothing like his American accent on house. i was floored when i found out he was British
***** actually i never had. House was my first exposure to Hugh Laurie
***** no. I'm 36. The only British series' that are widely shown are absolutely fabulous, and fawlty towers. I know he was in Stewart little but i had never previously watched it
***** i like ab fab. Never had a look at fawlty towers, really. I would like to view him in other roles.
***** in Stewart little he actually had his native accent
i still watch house episodes to this day
2024 me too
Laurie did well on this interview he was careful not to say something hurtful for Wilson's character and the idea of his own character being a side character rather than the main.I could see some tension building since others around him weren't so responsive and where just listening
Thank you for cuting a great conversation into 2 minutes pieces ...
They tried to make House as unlikeable as possible and yet many people loved him!! Hugh Laurie did a sensational job!!
I’m watching it 14 years later.
We are watching this in 2021 along with "ER" its just amazing weve been through lots of netflix stuff from sons of anarchy to house of cards but these two shows are just sooooo good
Great show I loved it wish it didn't have to end.
I know!
LOVE HUGH LAURIE WITH ALL MY HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first time I saw Hugh Laurie was in 101 DALMATIONS as Jasper. That character was so opposite House that when I saw him as a brilliant doctor, I had to look up the cast list to verify that this was the same actor.
Well I'm sure we can all agree, all the stars aligned perfectly in the making of House.
2024 and watching House again, I love it so much!
Anybody here in 2024!!
Me. First time UA-cam recommends me this

I LOVE YOU HUGH LAURIE I HAVE WATCHED EVERY SINGLE HOUSE EPISODE
its 2025 and i just finished this show, i cant describe my feelings well, i was so in love with this show i have watched every other high rated great shows but House is just different it just hits hard and has a special place in my heart i have never given a shiw this high of a rating this is a very subjective rating and not objective but it truly is 10/10 in my heart, better than BB than GOT than any other show to me really, I'd love to meet Hugh Laurie in real life he's my favourite actor too now sigh im so sad its ended
I just finished it and wonder how did I missed it
I LOVE HIM!!!! his accent is AMAZING! it's really weird, though because I've mostly heard him with the English accent
I love house MD. Real Quality, intelligent writing
Really hard to accept Hugh Laurie's normal voice as House, especially when he "looks" like House. Unbelievable acting
Watching in June 2023
He's got that British sense of humor of not laughing at your own wity jokes hehehe
He looks like House, but talks like an English man... hmmm...
Because he is English.
The TVs show Fry and Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster and Blackadder made him famous in Britain..
I really like him, I think h e is one of his best (if not, the best) role in his life.
Hugh relises he is hot right?
+untrue he is not you are just attracted to his character.
+untrue Specially in woman clothings
Skinkie22 you've got me all figured out don't you? Hypothetically this could be the first footage I've seen him in.
untrue you say it like it is a bad thing that you fall for a persons identity inistead of his looks. ofcourse this could be the first time you have seen him but i bet it isnt because if it was your first time you would see this cast your eyes would have picked up chase before house. in the hot factor.
Dude, you can totally be attracted to both, and I'm telling you, there are eyes out there that'll first settle on Hugh rather than Spencer; add the personality to the looks and wowza!
Watching in 2020
what a genius. never having grown up with a father, if he was my father, i would be so happy
I so want Stephen fry (laurie's best fd), to make a cameo in one episode of house. What fantastic tv that will b. Those two guy are the reason I watch tv.
Blacladder / Qi / house all fantastic
blackadder character is his best tbh, house is awesome but Hugh Laurie has a lot of classic comedy roles Blackadder being one of his best.
Bertie Wooster?
Disagree, as dr House he is outstanding, the Black Adder stuff I found boring, like Mr Bean. Then again I'm not british, so..
Best series ever
i just loveeeeeeee dr house
He's so cool dude
thnk you Anisangl, i'll look that up and check it out. i dont think i've seen Flight of the Phoenix b4.
@ablurida They couldn't have picked a better cast, they're all such brilliant actors and they fill the roles so well.
You now have the opening theme music stuck in your head
You know, the first time I had the revalation that Laurie is an Englishman was after becoming addicted to House and after re-watching my old DVD of Stuart Little. In the blooper reel, Laurie says "Stop the camera, take the film out, and throw it away!" in very Oxfordian English! I had to hold my skull tightly to keep it from exploding!
They should have picked me to play House. I would have been involved with Cuddy after the first episode lol. Fantastic show no matter how many times one watches it.
House is based heavily on Sherlock Holmes.
Holmes is often pronounced like "homes".
Homes = Houses
Thus, Dr. House.
goodness he is so attractive
REALLLLLLLL
also ur pfp LMAOOOO
b99 mentioned!!!!!!!!!🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥
You can't beat the Brits when it comes to intelligence! And wit and wisdom and everything else!
I cant beleive ppl dont know he is brittish,
here in Europe we watched him with Black Adder,
many movies with him, so we all knew him before he started to play House.
@BatmansFavoriteGirl Me too! I'm so used to him being silly in A Bit of Fry and Laurie and other things. I love him in Sense and Sensibility too. To me he suits his English accent much better than he does an American accent.
Do people really not know Hugh Laurie is English? Hugh and Stephen Fry used to make the best comedy and sketch shows around back in the 80s/early 90s. All you American fans need to watch Hugh in Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie. .
I only know him as dr House, love it! I didn't find the Black Adder stuff so funny, more slapstick level, like Mr Bean.
10 years response he is great
I WAITING FOR YOU EVEN 1 LONG YEAR FURRYFACEDR I LOVE YOU
Efsane bir diziydi Dr hause TURKEY
His accent blew my mind after the first time I heard it aswell.lol
Hugh is totally English. He was seen as a beloved comedic treasure here in the UK until he did House. most Brits still think of him in "Blackadder" which is a long running, cult comedy show, or with his comedy partner Stephen Fry in "Fry and Lawrie" To see him do a serious role is....strange...but brilliant!!!!
I'm glad no one else was picked for house, Hugh brings a rugged charming unlikeable sense that makes the character down right sexy haha. XP
I LOVED him in Monsters vs Aliens hahaha it took me a while to realize it was him...
Does anybody know how can the full version (=the show at the Paley Center) be watched of this interesting excerpt?
(Hugh rocks!)
Never gonna be the same after hearing his real voice
Oh god that is such an old show. lol I was little when it was on but I actually liked it and now it's funny that back then, there was Becker and now, there is House. :D
The film he was making in Namibia was the remake of Flight Of The Phoenix.
House = Holmes. I'd like to see the rest of this interview.
Best tv show ever
Amo a este hombre
yeah he's been around TV since the early 80's
Jeeves and Wooster was funny,.
@giselle21able Brittish accents are a lot more formal than the Australian accent.....We Australians are pretty lazy when we speak so we shorten our words quite a bit.....we're not really Brittish, but most of our like...customs and roots etc. come from England, which probably makes us sound Brittish....but they're both unique....And if memory serves...Jesse Spencer spent some time in England...so he might have picked up a little of the accent while he was there :)
Edited to include Hugh's audition and David talking about when he saw it.
Immediately before this I saw David Shore (writer) describing the moment they went from having multiple well known actors (who each hit the big time after failing to be House) where no matter who did the role, no one fit.
The production team then ruled out all British actors right before the audition tape that Hugh has filmed in the bathroom on set believing the yet unnamed House was the co-star to the lead star that he thought Wilson was meant to be. The guy who had ruled out British actors but didn't know Hugh said "That's him!! That's the EXACT sort of all American guy we needed!"...at which point David had to tell him that Hugh was a respected ENGLISH actor lol.
If you haven't seen his audition tape then I'll try and find it again to link it, it's Hugh being difficult with Wilson while being unaware that he was reading the lead and that Wilson was the co-star. He's instantly the same House you see until the end of the series.

What was Jennifer Morrisen doing @ 1:39?
Galactic123 That I was wondering, too. 😎
beautiful.
can't believe hugh laurie has not won an emmy for his 'house' role.....grrr!
Thank you Netflix for bringing back House MD 2024
Hugh just said that he was busy filming a movie in Namibia( that's my country) when he was first given the script for House, wonder what movie is that?
After looking at his IMDB page, my guess is "Flight of the Phoenix." It's about the same time House started and it's set in a desert area.
if you don't know hugh laurie, and if you only watched him at house md, you wouldn't know he's from england. thumbs up if you agree. great american accent! :)
"I'm a slow reader" - seems like Blackadder reference. Check "C is for Contrafibularity" on youtube :)
Is there a full version of the panel?
Not me watching house cast interviews while watching house on Amazon prime 🤓😊😅
@giselle21able ...Australian isn't actually cockney.. but it is often less formal.
An Australian accent isn't simply a different version of an English accent... but it does have it's roots there... but then again...so does an American accent.
it was a very bold thing to do. one of the things that i liked about it, was that they didn't try to be liked, he didn't try to be liked and the show didn't try to be liked and i think that's pretty likeable.
Hope i helped. :) It's not my native language, and iI couldn't get it all. But the most at least are written;) Enjoy!
@domieszter ok but WHEN was he here is what i want to know. Even if its just the southern part of Africa
He has a way with words.
