Few things inspire one’s imagination more than the fragmentary artifacts of ancient civilizations, ones that once prospered and are now lost to time. Looking at such objects can make you wonder what other great civilizations could have risen and fallen without a trace long ago.
“Fragments of the Past” is a fantasy world which echoes the lost artifacts and fragmented tales of classical history. It’s an imaginary bronze age epic - a vast world inspired by ancient Mediterranean myth and civilizations. It’s a realm of sun and sea, of gods and heroes, of war and fine art. The worldbuilding project is the creation of talented Italian artist and writer Massimiliano Haematinon Nigro.
There’s a lot to cover, but I’ll give you a condensed overview of what’s been revealed so far. Let’s sift through the fragments to see what epic civilizations might emerge…

My secret ambition: arrive to a point of worldbuilding of such sophistication that archeology majors can make their dissertation about "Development of Erigonio Orgiastic Cults from the First Etoi Eparchy to the Iskuzai Invasion"

@@HaematinonNigro I'd be delighted to participate in/help develop a class based around 'theoretical archeology' or something like that, basically the development of highly plausible ancient cultures as both a creative exercise and a way to potentially help reinterpret old data in novel ways that we might not otherwise have thought of due to conventional archeological methods of analyzing ancient materials.
Also I'm flattered you replied to my comment! I love this era, not to mention this sort of hardcore worldbuilding I can only aspire to!

@@d.ag.b1135 So basically the Archeology version of speculative-evolution? Honestly I love that idea, speculative evolution has already played a major part in paleontology, most famously a spec-evo book predicting the existence of a filter feeding anomilacarid about a year before one was discovered. I think in general it's a great idea to try to mix science and creativity in this way because it lets people engage with science in a creative way without diving into pseudo-science, it can help spread scientific awareness and it can sometimes also provide totally new ways of thinking about things that help scientists.

Reminds me ALOT of the project I was(am) working on - if anything for the strong association with the "ancient" bronze age aesthetic.
Mine was far more "fantastical" with it purpose of being a game world, however, and a deliberate push away from already common tropes in the genera such as the Greco-Roman cultural archetypes (though some are there) and pushing more into mesoamerican, indian, and middle-eastern inspirations - in so much that I was wearch HARD for mythical creatures that were not commonplace or used in popular culture, with some creations of my own (my favorite being the Uru - a literal man-bear-pig with a semi-gestalt consciousness).
Its inspiring to see others do the same, and makes me want to pull the thing out of hiatus. Design-wise we were worlds apart, as I was trying to gather that victorian-esque perspective by almost exclusively using ink sketches and clinical writing for effect. The original purpose for the world was a version of my own table-top game with its own unique mechanics (a thing that is nearly impossible to market or even get people to play with the near monopolistic hold that Wizards of the Coast has on that industry and its fans).

Ahh fiction that realm where pieces of fact are stitched together making both possible and impossible worlds and ideas together that provide escape to and hypothetical possibilities for humanity.

Considering the fact that all vertebrates on Earth can trace their ancestry back to ancient fish, I'd say there's some truth to the Zagera myth, albeit a scientific one rather than a religious one.

Hmmm difficult question, I admire Etoi and their sophisticated religious art and ceremonies, but they have a very sombre, tragic worldview and a dark visions of the Gods. I am definetly more Iskuzai.
