Alot of people praise Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Boston, NWOBHM as the best guitar harmony bands. Those bands are fucking fantastic of course...but, Opeth with alot of the mid 90's Swed. bands like Dissection, Eucharist, Dark Tranquillity...those harmonies fullfill more for me...very melancholic, very sharp sounding and beautiful. Very emotional....love that shit for life. I bought the Orchid record in 2002 and probably have listened to it all the way through like literally 500 times.
WHAT!? All they're albums are amazing! Although I have to say the first three albums were in my opinion their stronghold in comparison to their more recent albums, but I still like all their stuff
this is awsome. the first opeth album i heard was orchid. i was like OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! it blew me away. ive only seen them live once about 2 years ago. best show ever. i got to meet mikael and peter and about fainted. i was so nervous and all. it was wonderful.
@anathemadeathopeth What I mean is the era between 1995 - 98, prior to Still Life (when Mikael's voice deepened and he got comfortable with lower range growls). Granted, the transition was already audible with MAYH...but with Orchid and Morningrise (with the obvious exceptions of 'To Bid You Farewell', 'Requiem' and 'Silhouette'), his growls practically verge on howls, like in 'The Apostle in Triumph', the brutal part in 'Nectar' and the awesome howl at the end of 'Black Rose Immortal' : )
@Seek1Destroy1 What's cool is that Ghost of Perdition, a later era song starts out with those old higher pitched screams again. Not as high...but yeah, it's glad to see her acknowledging that thing again.
@Spivonious They used Jacksons both live and in the studio on their first three albums afaik, though on MAYH they used some les paul for rhythm guitars.
I read a few of these comments and I would like to say I think albums like orchard, morning rise and my arms your hearse by far kick ass all over the new stuff.I don't mean to sound to sinical on the band I have all there albums including the latest but old stuff always kicks ass
We all love and praise their older material, but a band that refuses to evolve (like you know, pretty much every band) get boring quick. Watershed, although different, is beautiful in it's own way, I love the record. But I still listen to Orchid.
In my opinion,ALL of their albums are fantastic.I may have some opinions on several of the albums(such as Heritage, which I think could have been a bit better),but nothing for me to say "this is their worst album ever".Opeth is one of those rare bands that releases several masterpieces and STILL ends up succeeding.
this is not completely true. although they rarely play anything from the first 2 releases, sometimes they play Advent and To Bid You Farewell besides TNATSW and UTWM.
metal is all about power riffs an speed these days lacking a more melodic side of things and if bands do go more that way it seems to sound like some kinda poxy goth shit or emo crap I dunno but I sure am glad I am of the previous generation.
we want more orchid live!
It has not been possible, for legal reasons, since 1996

this song is a metal masterpiece, i dare to say its up there with orion and child in time,
orion and child in time, my fav but when i need extra boost for the day, i go for this song and the growl keep me awake.
It's so weird to see Mikael without his moustache.
Oh my god… RIP that voice
Thank you so much for posting this. Orchid live music especially on video is rare.
I love all Opeth songs, however I still got to say that Orchid is my favorite album with Opeth.
wtf...lol. This is Opeth at its birth. Wow never thought Id see the old for of the band....really nice.
opeth entra facilmente no meu top 3 bandas de todos os tempos, queria ver eles fazendo mais sons como esse, que mistura death metal com progressivo.
The album is an absolute masterpiece-This song is particularly mesmerizing.
Also my favorite from them, Orchid is underrated
WOW COOL
I wish I could have been at that show. Truly wonderful
This is a bit better than the studio version, I love his screams :D

You mean pale communion :D
My fav song too here ;D!
Haha yes! This makes me love Jackson guitars even more!
I wish they played some Jackson Randy Rhoads live again, it looks so fitting to their dark and heavy stuff!
Unbelievable.
fucking amazing song
the best song.
Unreal song. One of their greatest of the black metal opeth era. Mikael's voice is perfect (It still is - but its deeper in a good way!)

Not sure. On the Morningrise session diary it says a Yamaha 6 string and Arvidson fretless-- most likely one of those
Hey gidi Opeth, nereden nereye...😅
@Spivonious They used Jacksons both live and in the studio on their first three albums afaik, though on MAYH they used some les paul for rhythm guitars.

Watershed, although different, is beautiful in it's own way, I love the record. But I still listen to Orchid.
Hey GBcommander how did get that info?, i didn't know that mikael hates orchid and morningrise, but your comment seems about accurate
hah they started to laught right before they played :D

it seems that there are almost no live recordings of this song. did they ever played it live at later tours?
this is not completely true. although they rarely play anything from the first 2 releases, sometimes they play Advent and To Bid You Farewell besides TNATSW and UTWM.

Solstice, Rob Barrett. Good band, great guitar player. Opeth though, evn better.
metal is all about power riffs an speed these days lacking a more melodic side of things and if bands do go more that way it seems to sound like some kinda poxy goth shit or emo crap I dunno but I sure am glad I am of the previous generation.
oh my god how obnoxious are the crowd lmao
Freakin awesome song tho
Give us some metal you bastards 🤣
@leigon666 this has absolutely nothing to do with thrash, with a name like 'legion', i'm a little surprised at the stupidity of the comment
faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak!
They've sucked ever since Morningrise.
They got better.
