I just purchased the entire Affinity license yesterday due to the sale and you just so happened to upload this tutorial. Thank you so much! Please make one for photo and publisher. This was a very informative and easy to follow video. 😊
Thank you so much! Very helpful video as I have just purchased Affinity Designer. Enough of the basics so that I can begin to play around with the software.
Just wanted to say thank you for uploading this refresher course and all the work you've done. I've recently picked up you AFF Designer Masterclass so I'll be diving into those lessons real soon. I haven't used the program in awhile and this is just what I needed to familiarize and use the software to it's full potential. I have a few projects on hold that I'd like to revisit and improve upon but again thank you for the in depth tutorials you've provided over the years.
Hi. So glad I found you.....(I use a MacBook Air) YET for total beginners it took me over 5 minutes to just figure out where how to find open a new document! How was I suppose to know?..... I had no idea to click on my profile button up in the upper right corner...until I just guessed. Hopefully your future videos really take into account total newbies with no clue. Step by step please. Cheers
36:30 you indicated that there’s no visual change when you invert selection, but there is a visual change indicating it. Notice the selection marquee on top and left sides of the canvas in addition to being around the ball. The marquee encompasses its current selection and usually is visible around the whole canvas when inverted
11:30 "longer or SHARTER" lol Learning this program for my job, this is very helpful! So far this seems way cleaner and user friendly than photoshop and indesign
Please make one of these for Affinity Photo. What would be really helpful to a lot of us is an onboarding tutorial for people coming over from Ai and Ps. Many tutorials out there babble on and on about the basics such as what strokes and fills are it is so hard finding concise videos that gets us up to speed with affinity. thank you!
@@DesignMadeSimple well there are some obvious differences like how the layers work for starters - affinity has this grouping thing going on. common tasks like masking could be looked at. the personas are totally an affinity thing. how can they be leveraged to improve workflow? how does the smart object work in photo? different tools behave differently in affinity such the contour tool vs offset path. how selection works on photo vs photoshop. many things cannot be done easy with designer such as gradient meshes, is there a text on path? how do i simplify shapes in designer? what about patterns? how to work with swatches in designer (global colours?). without going into a lot of depth, i think you can look at what most people do in Adobe and translate it into Affinity. Of course you will need to know adobe yourself, but i think there are many of us bored to death with tutorials about how to create rectangles and need to go fishing for "how to do (what i do in adobe) in designer". if you can pull this off without boring people to death heck put it in udemy itll be a best seller.
The course i bought from Nick was one of the best things i did in life. Started with Inkscape and mainly to make stencils for cutting plotter, but man that escalated quickly :D Digging into Affinity at the moment. It opened up SO many opportunities that I was even a bit overwhelmed when people started to ask me if I could do this, do that and my answere was always "yes" becouse i had knowledge and tool for it. I'm pushing my career into direction I haven't even anticipated before and I like it! :D Thx Nick! A lot!
Nick: thank you! This is the best beginner's video I've seen. Some of these things I thought I knew, but seeing you explain them provides more clarity. QUESTION ON BRUSHES... I've tried to apply brush images to shapes. A few brushes in the Dry Media and Pencil categories have brushes designed to complete CLOSED CURVES. Nice. I've spent quite a bit of time trying to apply similar "closed curve" attributes to conventional brushes with minimal success. It seems I can greatly narrow the gap between start and end, but not completely.Do you have any suggestions on how to create a brush (or modify brush attributes) that would cover an entire CLOSED CURVE?? Thanks, your videos are outstanding!
I'm not sure about the brushes thing. I would think you can do that in the brush settings but I don't see anything in there upon first glance so I'd have to look into it further.
Hi again LOL. ok you keep undoing some things as you go through this video...... YET I do not see how you are undoing? I don't see your arrow on top of anything yet things are undoing as you say let me undo this? How are you actually undoing? Thank You
Just cancelled adobe subscription yesterday, bought full affinity licence and was wondering if Nick has basic tutorial on this piece of software :D you need to equip yourself with crystal ball... Oh wait, you are good without it 😂
So you are an educator at heart. You are very good at this. And since you are good at teaching Affinity do you have any how to video's on creating "scribble art" Where the picture looks like someone took a pencil and scribbled it on the paper and the picture emerged? I see tutorials for this in Adobe and I"m certain that the process is similar but the Adobe interface in not the same as Affinity. an example of what I'm talking about can be found at How To Create Scribble Art - Tutorial - Photoshop CC by Kingy AI here on youtube. Thoughts?
Hello nick, I am new to affinity designer still. If I worked on a design on adobe vectors. Would the design be editable if I switch over to affinity designer?
But why is working with SVG files so very frustrating in Affinity Designer V2... I have downloaded vector resources from Pixabay but so far, with whichever method that's recommended (even by one of your videos) I cannot edit them!! Why did they discontinue the Edit Document button 😖😫
There's a lot of features that Inkscape doesn't have, like CMYK, image editing, and it handles text much better than Inkscape. On the other hand Inkscape has Trace Bitmap and more advanced path effects. These two apps go well together.
Thank you. I recently switched from PS and AI to Affinity and I like it so any tutorials are much appreciated.
Many more to come!

@@imtiahmed2001 i bought it aswell on sale, it was 90€ for all the apps.
This my go to channel for Affinity! 💖

Yes! I was looking for something like this after I switched to Affinity. Would be nice if you do this for Publisher and Photo too.
Damnnn. So nice... One tool and two shit done. Damnnn, totally buying this
wow, great tutorial. Tx for this

Good suggestion. Is there anything in particular you find to be confusing about Affinity compared to Illustrator and Photoshop?

Can you do some project on Inkscape as well?

Very happy to hear that @Pavelek88 ! Thank you for your feedback
Nice overview video! Are the tutorials in the original hardcover "Affinity Designer Workbook" still useful for the current version of Designer?

So I figured out my solution -- Affinity Designer tutorials vs Affinity Photo -, but I would still like your recommendations on this technique.
We need design tutorial for print on demand please
I just lost my transform box from the bottom right corner! 😬 Have no idea how to bring it back!
Is there a big difference between this and the ipad version?
Is this for affinity 1 or affinity 2? I noticed the create document screen looks a bit different from the version I'm using (affinity 1).
Hello nick, I am new to affinity designer still. If I worked on a design on adobe vectors. Would the design be editable if I switch over to affinity designer?
For the most part, yes. As long as you don't have any Illustrator-specific filters or effects applied.

can you please help me,do you have an installer for Affinity Designer?i’m person with disability from philippines

Try importing it into a document by clicking and dragging onto the canvas, then double click the SVG layer. It should open in a new tab.
@@DesignMadeSimple Thank you. I'm going to make a go at it again.
I tried with one rando SVG image and I can Open it from the File menu. Try that instead of importing into a new Document
Why would you use it over Inkscape?
There's a lot of features that Inkscape doesn't have, like CMYK, image editing, and it handles text much better than Inkscape. On the other hand Inkscape has Trace Bitmap and more advanced path effects. These two apps go well together.
@@DesignMadeSimple thanks for the education!
I recently dumped photoshop for affinity 2 photo and considering this app also, so thanks!
Affinity designer 2?
Yes, this is Designer 2
@@DesignMadeSimple is this a good tutorial to use for Affinity designer v1?
