LAVURN - +WINDCHILL

Phoenix is proud to premiere documentation from Will to Zero, a performance work by producer LAVURN (Cassius Select/Fake) in collaboration with Lenny Gitonga that debuted at Phoenix Central Park in Sydney last year.
The first of three videos from the work, visualising a new single from LAVURN’s eponymous album, “+WINDCHILL” takes inspiration from the bitterness of a gale. Coldness as a flourish, a function of solitude. The lyrics were written as a series of interlinking adlibs to unwritten verses, as if the vocals are analogous to windchill factor, drifting and blowing across the beat before subsiding.
The video for “+WINDCHILL”, directed by Jeremy Elphick, captures Lavurn’s descent down Phoenix’s grand staircase as he drawls his innermost thoughts over surgically programmed drums and haunting melodic fragments.
Will to Zero is a sustained creative framework shared by LAVURN and Lenny Gitonga where the artists draw on synergies between sound, architecture and movement as tools for world building. At Phoenix, the project took expression in what appeared to be a dystopian futurist wreckage, of reflections, conduits, and shards.

Live at Phoenix is a live performance film series by Phoenix Central Park capturing stellar performances by exceptional artists. Running in parallel to Phoenix Central Park’s agenda-setting weekly free concerts, the series gives as much voice to the creatives behind the camera as it does the performers themselves. Each episode is a unique pairing of musician and filmmaker, resulting in an elevated performance inspired by the sculptural surrounds of The Nest.
