I'd handload a reduced load if my deer were the size of my dog. When the bullet hit it was like a bomb went off on that little critter. You could step that down to 1800 fps with plenty of power without throwing half the deer in the garbage due to bloodshot.I killed whitetails that were easily twice the size of that deer with a Winchester 25.20 with a 75 grain bullet at 100 yrds.It delivers 300 ft #s of energy at that range and no recoil. For animals of this size the 22 Hornet with a 50 grain bullet @ 2200 fps would fill the bill without worrying so much about backstop as light bullets don't travel as far or carry enough weight to do any serious damage a mile away after passing thru an animal. I'd be surprised if it did pass thru at ranges over 100 yrds.
It is always informative and enjoyable to watch Chris on these outings.
Thanks Peter!

Are you in Bedfordshire or Bedfordshire?
Great video - Always difficult to get a good backstop on flat ground...
I have never seen a hunting fashion show before
Still think a 22-250 would be better than a 6.5 for these wee animals.🤔🧐
