Good luck! I grew up on a California property that had an old gold mine. Spent many hours digging, filling up ore cars, laying track, and shoring. It's a huge amount of work, and I have a lot of respect for those past miners.
In 07-09 I was doing mine rehab in WA srate, we dug out three collapses and got into the old stope area and put in new sets and ore chute. Found that much of vein was still left behind since in the 1890s to 1900 1-5 oz a ton was passed by. After doing many years of old mine exploring it was a real adventure to get in the muck and live the history I'd been looking at for years. Best two years of memories and hard work I ever had. We cut our own lumber so the smell underground was an amazing aroma. After completing the timbering work was like looking at art to me. Really makes you understand the past a little better and wonder if the miners had the feeling of a brother among miners like I had.

I think it's such a great idea to use the old mines. Rarely were they ever properly cleared. In the Yukon where they've done the dredging you can mine the tailings piles and find gold. Lots too.
Was wondering after I saw the water flow coming out of your mine, since you have unintended riffles from the cross ties ,have you ever panned between the cross rails to see if anything has washed down?
We haven't as we've been busy getting things opened up, but that is not a bad suggestion. The gold in this mine has been microscopic though rather than high grade. So, it may not be sufficient to build up behind the ties since (historically) milling has been required.
Hope you guys try. When I saw the large amount of running water going across those ties that was the first thing I thought. Think of it as dividens thats be accumulating for years.t

Cool that you've started this project, wishing you and your team luck and safety. That cribbing is intense you've basically got square sets in there! How did you choose this spot? Can you share the gold / ton ratios of ore samples in future videos? Thanks.
Thank you. Yes, the cribbing is intense (we call that section the "timber cave" or "timber cathedral" but it is better than the alternative!)... The samples have shown .7 to 3.5 opt. If you read the description below the video on why the mine was abandoned, it seemed a very promising site to explore since there was no time to remove equipment or artifacts. Plus, this area is loaded with history!
Wow, this is really exciting, Justin. I am really envious. I am not envious, though, of trying to buy that timber! I can’t wait for more on this project. I bet the view over the valley in good weather is spectacular.

Thank you very much. I'll have new videos of this mine probably at least once a month and I'll mix in the normal abandoned mine exploring videos in between.
Oh holy hell am I jealous of you right now. We're stuck in a financial mess with one mine and evaluating another along with reactivating a mill one of my acquaintances has nearby. How do your guys like the DeWalt battery chainsaw? One of my clients has a mine with a 160' inclined shaft and the manway is in awful shape; we'll need to repair and replace much of the timbering before it's safe without a harness. Being able to cut timber down the hole would help loads.
The BEST electric chainsaw we used at the Original 16to1 Mine was a STHIL. That thing was fast cutting and the battery lasted quite a while. The drawback? Very expensive! Also, don't let a newb use it, they'll hit every nail and even the track! Ask me how I know.
Milling will definitely be an issue in the future as I am skeptical that California will be accommodating in this regard. I have two Stihl chainsaws that I use on the family property and I am definitely a fan. That said, the DeWalt has performed like a champ in the worst possible conditions underground (as long as the blade is sharp). We cut the timbers as precisely as we can outside, but there is always fine tuning needed once things are being placed underground.
you guys are on point im working on ours in Montana I got 3 old mines and a new outcrop running 1.2 oz au and 42 oz of silver per ton we have a few videos on my page now will be posting new ones soon its hard work but fun ass hell lol the old timers were tuff as nails and good at what they did
With all of the expenses I hope it's more than a boat load, more like a mountain of gold. Just looking at all of the timber that he used in that hole is probably tens of thousands of dollars, I hope he has his own sawmill. Yet he still has to find the gold to pay for that colossal undertaking, if it's abandoned it's probably all worked out. I hate to sound negative here, but reality is looking them straight in the face.
@Brian Landers No, we do not have our own sawmill and, yes, the timber is costing us about $10k for every trailer load we bring up (the lagging and those 8x8s are not cheap). However, read the description below the video to see why it was abandoned... Also, the initial involvement here is to open it up to be explored. The finding of gold is secondary for now.
I've been following your channel for quite a while from the Ruhr area known as the coal mining area. I am still impressed by your documentary work on the extraction of raw materials from the earth. Keep it up! Greetings from Germany.
@@peterrehrmann9196 You mean Bochum. I don't live there but in the neighboring town. Without the town signs, you won't notice that you have just crossed the city limits. The Ruhr area has an area of 4,435 km² and consists of 11 cities and 4 urban districts. As already said, the cities and their buildings merge into one another. I was the last member of my family to be trained on a coal mine. My grandfathers were underground masons or miners. Personally, I have mainly worked in the surface area. I only saw the underground area at 1170m depth during safety inspections, that is currently 20 years ago. Of 3,200 mines in the area (but not all of them in operation at the same time), none have been in operation since 2018. You can't drive in or see what it looks like down there. All shafts are closed forever and filled with concrete. In Bochum, however, the German Mining Museum is there you can still go "underground" even if it is only 12 m. (www.bergbaumuseum.de/) Or you drive to the former RAG training mine in Recklinghausen. (trainingsbergwerk.de/) Today I work for a professional fire brigade on the Rhine. I still get to see coal there at times. Greetings M.Plewka
Sorry for the spelling mistake of Bochum. Thanks for the history. My father always said that was where all the church bells were made alsol. Hence the coal mining. My parents came to America after ww2. Thanks M Plewka
@M. Plewka Thank you. I've always been impressed by Germany's mining history and have thoroughly enjoyed the mining museums that I have visited in Germany... I am envious of the opportunities that you had to see some of the underground workings - particularly given how far underground you got! I also work as a firefighter. Small world!
@@peterrehrmann9196 You realize again how small the world is. You are absolutely right about the unique church bells in Bochum, which are not made of bronze but of steel. Their sound is truly special. I am proud of the innovative people who lived here in my area before me and who worked very hard. Also on the culture that they helped shape.

That's the most well built mine I've ever seen. You should try to collect that mountain water and sell it. It's probably cleaner than tap water. I think it would be fun to try this just for a couple of days. Looks like hard work.
Thanks guys this is a dream come true to watch you document a old mine coming back to life. WOW!!! I wish you the best of luck and in a few years I would like to invest/work after retirement
@@TVRExploring cool, I never miss an episode, I been a fan of your videos for years mate, but I gotta say that this concept of working on the mine like you are in this one is unique on YT , hope it brings you lots of new subs Justin,
After watching a ton of mine exploration videos from you and others, I've always wondered what it would be like to see all the timbering being installed and the massive efforts that would require! If it's possible to show more of that whole process of how the calculations are made for cutting the lumber, the cutting, transportation of the timber into the mine and it's installation I would love to see that. The word amazing is way overused today. What you are doing here is truly *amazing*! Thank you for sharing this project!
Thank you. Yes, I am trying to capture as much of the detail like that as possible. This was more of an introductory video, but now that I've established the setting, I'm going to try and give more of what you're talking about. I'll have new videos of this mine probably at least once a month and I'll mix in the normal abandoned mine exploring videos in between.
Cold, wet & expensive hope your efforts are justly rewarded. Very interested to see a future for this venture other than a film set for Y.T .. But really what ever pays the rent.. Best of luck. Dig safe dig lots.
UA-cam is most definitely not paying the rent... It has always cost me way more than what I get out of it. The focus is on opening the mine up to explore now, but if we find gold, it would not make sense to ignore it.
Just think of the pickup lines when you own a place like this. "Come to my gold prospect this weekend- I want to make you mine!" I like this and can't wait till you get to the ore body. So much carpentry before you can actually get to the gold. Subscribed! That blower noise would drive me crazy! Consider mounting the blower above and to the right of the opening, blowing into a "muffler" of fiberglass insulation behind hardware cloth lining a metal box off the blower, then a duct down to the opening. This will make the atmosphere in and near the mine so much more pleasant to work in. Totally worth the effort. Perhaps one or more of those stopes was an old air shaft or could be easily reached from the surface. That would be an even better and quieter entry point for the forced air duct.
It definitely makes for an interesting conversation starter... Thank you. We've gotten back to some of the ore bodies that the miners in the past cleared out, but, as you stated, there will be a lot more work before we're taking out anything of our own! The blower is actually much better than it was when we first started! We've made some more modifications (that you'll see in future videos) that have improved things more, but, yes, it is always a relief when we turn it off.
Glad you like the idea... I'll have new videos of this mine probably at least once a month and I'll mix in the normal abandoned mine exploring videos in between.
I know exactly where this mine is located, we Jeeped up there several years ago and had a look around on one of our many mine/ghost town/cemetery trail explorations. (don't worry, I wont divulge the location/name of the mine). At that time the mine looked completely abandoned. So awesome to see it being opened and worked.... I will be watching ALL the vids and just subbed to the channel.
This is great a lot of these gold and silver mines are also coming to life in Idaho and Montana as well. If they have the potential and with today’s modern technology,, I say WHY NOT. Some mines r still beaming with minerals waiting to be rediscovered and mined.
That was a surprise wow bringing an abandoned mine back to life for the purpose of thoroughly exploring it, a great endeavor and it looks very professional mate, hope all that wood above your head stays there, some parts look a bit rotten, looking forward too see more.

I always look forward to your videos, this makes it even better. I hope you and yours strike it rich, y’all deserve it.
Thank you. I'll have new videos of this mine probably at least once a month and I'll mix in the normal abandoned mine exploring videos in between.
Man, i've been watching you for a couple years now and i'm so excited you've got your own Mine now, this changes things big time, the kind of content that can come of this is epic, can't wait to see what's next.
Kick ass spot! What a view. Work safe. Can’t wait to se what y’all dig up.
Thank you. Neither can we!
With the price of lumber Rapidly reaching that of gold this may be quite the financial adventure!!!!
The timber could be worth more than the gold left in the mine.
@@TVRExploring News today was that lumber is starting to go back down.
@Mr Clone Hell no....been happening all around the globe, not just in US liberal cities lmao
really interesting! Something different!
I’d like to see a whole series of this!
There will be a whole series. I'll have new videos of this mine probably at least once a month and I'll mix in the normal abandoned mine exploring videos in between.
Love this. I will be glued to this set of videos. I always wanted to re-open the little copper mine north of where I grew up. Ever since we explored it in high school and found ore cars, ore chutes and other things still inside the mine I was fascinated. A few members of my family even worked at mines.
I'll have new videos of this mine probably at least once a month and I'll mix in the normal abandoned mine exploring videos in between.
Admire the skill of putting up those boards and mine supports. 👏👏
That’s awesome dude, can’t wait to see more and for you to hit some pay dirt, some rich seams I hope along with some visible gold, one only hopes. Good luck.
Very cool operation Justin! Thanks to you and crew for showing us! Is this high Sierra's work?
Yes, we are pretty far up in the mountains, which produces some extreme weather at times.
This is super awesome to see! Congrats your hard work and dedication is definitely paying off and hopefully soon enough it'll be paying in gold!
Ok this is awesome. I am excited to watch the forward progress!
I'll have new videos of this mine probably at least once a month and I'll mix in the normal abandoned mine exploring videos in between.
Man this kinda work makes the road construction I was doing in the 80’s look like a piece of cake!
This is cool, congrats. Finally someone like you who knows what they are doing and talking about filming the experience
So excited for this series. Always wanted to watch something like this

It's fantastic what you are doing there really can't wait for more from this one would love to see more videos of you going about your work there and showing us what's involved thank you for sharing 👍🇬🇧

@@TVRExploring thats fantastic cant wait thank you
Cool that you've started this project, wishing you and your team luck and safety.
Yes! This is wicked, years of watching you explore mines now you are mining ⛏️. All I got to say is cheers, may the luck be in your favor.
Thank you. Seemed like a natural evolution...
The woodwork in that cave is an engineering marvel awesome stuff man
Wow, this is really exciting, Justin. I am really envious. I am not envious, though, of trying to buy that timber! I can’t wait for more on this project. I bet the view over the valley in good weather is spectacular.
Can't beat the views up there! I'll have new videos of this mine probably at least once a month and I'll mix in the normal abandoned mine exploring videos in between.
I'm watching this a year later. And your team has made great progress since then. How many people are working in this mine now?
Looks like a hell of an adventure looking forward to seeing your updates on your own project hope you find lots of treasure and pays off for you and your crew , safety is the most important thing staying alive my friend sounds like you got it covered wish you the best of luck I really enjoy checking out your videos you do a great job I must say you have bigger balls than me seeing some of the spaces you squeeze through and the distance you go back into some of those mines it incredible how the old miners got all that material out it blows me away .
Thank you I will be watching I will see if I can throw a few bucks your way my friend take care be safe .
Thank you very much. I'll have new videos of this mine probably at least once a month and I'll mix in the normal abandoned mine exploring videos in between.
Now that’s a really cool mine! I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished
I'm so excited to see this come to life again
We cut the timbers as precisely as we can outside, but there is always fine tuning needed once things are being placed underground.
you guys are on point im working on ours in Montana I got 3 old mines and a new outcrop running 1.2 oz au and 42 oz of silver per ton we have a few videos on my page now will be posting new ones soon its hard work but fun ass hell lol the old timers were tuff as nails and good at what they did
Look forward to many more episodes hoping you find a boat load of gold
With all of the expenses I hope it's more than a boat load, more like a mountain of gold. Just looking at all of the timber that he used in that hole is probably tens of thousands of dollars, I hope he has his own sawmill. Yet he still has to find the gold to pay for that colossal undertaking, if it's abandoned it's probably all worked out. I hate to sound negative here, but reality is looking them straight in the face.
I'll have new videos of this mine probably at least once a month and I'll mix in the normal abandoned mine exploring videos in between.
My father's family are from buchum Germany
(www.bergbaumuseum.de/)
Or you drive to the former RAG training mine in Recklinghausen. (trainingsbergwerk.de/)
Today I work for a professional fire brigade on the Rhine.
Also on the culture that they helped shape.
such a cool video...a fun project...looking forward to seeing more!!!

Can you give us the details? Whose mine is it? How did you get into this? I could come up with a million questions but you get the idea. The back story.
If you read the description below the video on why the mine was abandoned, it seemed a very promising site to explore since there was no time to remove equipment or to take any artifacts from the mine. Plus, this particular area is loaded with history...

Its a really big hole

That's the most well built mine I've ever seen. You should try to collect that mountain water and sell it. It's probably cleaner than tap water. I think it would be fun to try this just for a couple of days. Looks like hard work.

That’s so awesome man! Keep up the good work, excited to see what you find in there - artifacts and gold!
Thank you. Yes, we're really looking forward to getting up the raise to the upper levels. Either way, we're having a lot of fun!
Good job a lot of people wanna see old mines being used again but no one wants to put in the work keep the good work up
Just think of the pickup lines when you own a place like this. "Come to my gold prospect this weekend- I want to make you mine!"
I like this and can't wait till you get to the ore body.
Just watched part 1 and 2 NOW people will see the very Hard work it is to make a BUCK maybe .⛏️🇺🇸👍 Thank you .from wash state .

Thank you very much. Yes, it is definitely hard work at times!
