It will be so good for the Baltics to finally get this. Finally a way to get between the cities quickly without being either reliant on flying (which could get pricy easily) or being stuffed in buses.
Really cool video man! I love the rail baltica project and seeing how it slowly gets implemented into reality is really cool. Nice to see the general improvements of the area as well, including some proper wide bicycle paths! I hope that Lithuania and Estonia also start ramping up their construction, from what I can find online Latvia seems to be the furthest ahead with construction currently.
Thanks! :) That's right, Latvia is being ahead, at least for the time being. We'll see how it goes further down the road, it's a huge project after all.
The difference is that in Estonia, almost all of the construction works are going on in the countryside, so they are not visible to the wider public. However, recently the Tallinn main station went under construction.
That's a good point actually! I haven't heard of any construction activities in the countryside in Latvia. We have 2 stations that are being built right now: in Riga city centre and at the airport.
Around 07:00 the stairs, handrails and doors - they look older than other parts of the station. If this area is older than the other areas, how old is it? Prewar?
Yes. Built in the early 20th century. Here is a video by Latvian Railways about both the stairs and the station and Riga in general during that time. ua-cam.com/video/3GSiQI2W9VI/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
@@rainerstim I hope they will maintain and retain this architectural heritage! I own a small apartment to the east of Abrenes iela bus terminus. Hoping to see the start of the construction of new foot tunnel between Daugavpils iela and Valmieras iela!
Stunning view 3:35, such contrast with šmotku bodēm (For people with OCD, that view, given the uneven spacing between arches, will be the most hated one I suspect XD)
1:33 Personally, I think the new bridge should have been architectually similiar to the old one. I find it shameful how often architects forget that architectural harmony matters a lot.
Most likely, two bridges will not be needed in the future. Having 2 different gauges in the country isn't a good idea. After some transitional period the old 1520 mm lines will be partially dismantled partially rebuilt to 1435 mm.
@@al-uw4ln Currently, there are some thoughts that maybe the entire railway needs to be converted to 1435mm, but it would be difficult to perform this change due to high cost of this transition. We will see how this goes on, might come after a while. And even if the entire network is converted to 1435mm, additional tracks might be useful, as Riga has is a quite busy railway hub.
this is a really great video. 5:58 sadly Gogoļa iela has been renamed because it was a "russian", even though gogol (I don't know how to spell the name.😔) was ukranian ..😢

Exactly! With a modern level of comfort!

"slowly" being the key word lmao

Great
This is great news!! How it's going on the works nowadays?
The latest stage: they are now building the first pillars (including one in the river). :)

Contrasts.. :D
A great review! I hear that the 4th metal element of the station is already almost assembled, but I haven't seen it yet :)
Yeap, it's been in the news. Moving forward step-by-step :)

Būs video no Iecavas railbaltica būvniecības?

Fully agree with you!
