At 16:15 when Jessie "rectified" his not having three Deals to take his three alcohol earlier in his turn, he didn't really rectify it: he place the Deal he drew under an existing Deal, which combines them into a single Deal, so at the end of it, he still only had two Deals 😞
Cool dresscode! Thanks for this great add-on to Scarface play throughs. I backed instantly, due to the theme, but foremost the look of the game. Now with this play through and the previous one from Quackalope, I am happy to be firm in the statement that I like what I see... wondering what the solo mode will bring to the table and hoping it will be as nice with 2-players (+ enforcers pack).
Lol it gets better the more you play, it doesn't help that rules were changing multiple times between plays. This was my 3rd game and each time the rules changed between plays.
@@BoardGameCo And with seemingly having multiple viable strategies available to win, it seems like it has a *lot* of playability instead of there just being one boring path. I backed this other day and I can't wait until May 22 comes around (assuming there are no delays... :-S ); I *really* want to play this! Interestingly, I saw in the credits in the rulebook on the KS Campaign page that there is a "Tabletop Simulator Mod Developer", and the creator did say they have a TTS mod, but it is out of date. They plan on updating it, and *may* make it available before the actual physical game gets released, which makes me even more excited!
I thought I made a comment on this but I can't seem to find it. I agree with Shira that there should be more reward for "area control" (or taking over more neighbourhoods). I know you get $5 per business, so the more neighbourhoods you control, the more businesses you can open, but that can be a "slow grind". I would like to see something like an end-game bonus of $5 per neighbourhood, $3 per business, or if you *really* want to incentivize area control, leave the businesses at $5 per, and give something like $7 or even $10 per neighbourhood. If that doesn't become an official part of the rules, there is nothing stopping anyone from making something like that a House Rule.
At 9:35, when Shira uses her boss ability, she should have taken only ONE associate with a level as high as 3 (her hand size). I don't think the ability reads « hire as many associates as your hand size ». That would definately be broken. The actual difference here is that normally, you hire one associate with the level depending on the strength on your plan cards. Her boss uses hand size instead.
@@BoardGameCo oohhh ok... Sorry, my mistake. Maybe they shouldn't allow that repeat skill then... or maybe it is because I haven't played the game so, it's difficult to grasp what it implies here.
Ahhh… okay. I was sitting here screaming at the screen “ONE. Take ONE!” That’s definitely busted. Needs to be an asterisk on hiring associates for Capone. Take one the level of your hand size or lower and then maybe just put them in your hand for free. Then continue with 2 more abilities. That’s crazy OP. Kiss all the good cards goodbye.
@@BoardGameCo I thought the same thing as Daniel until I remembered that the Boss can do the same skill multiple times (up to three). Definitely broken, but I can see how it plays into the (game) description of Capone being skilled at growing his gang.
@@Nickolith Not sure if this matters to you at all, but based on the images int he finalized rule book, this skill of Capone's has been nerfed a bit: he can still hire one Associate with s star level equal to or less than his hand size, but he also has to pay $1 per star.
New Drinking game. Take a shot of juice every time someone says “brothel” in the video. Lol. You won’t last 15 minutes. Great video!! I like how you guys leaned into the gangsters. Scarface and the Godfather are a great movies to me so I guess that’s why I like the theme so much.
Second time asking this::Quick question. One of the bosses ability stated that if you were going to fulfill a job, ignore one requirement. Does that mean that you have to have all the requirements to do the job but then you can just ignore one cost of something. Not just ignore a particular requirement if you don’t have it.

Does that mean that you have to have all the requirements to do the job but then you can just ignore one cost of something. Not just ignore a particular requirement if you don’t have it.
No, that ability is to help you fulfill a job, even though you can't meet one of the requirements. And don't forget, bosses can repeat their skills, so you could use this to ignore up to three requirements of a job...
On a scale of 1 - 10, what is the fun factor playing this game? God, the art style is so wonderful and I can't resist backing it but I also wanted to make sure the gameplay is fun. Love your videos!
Hard to say for sure...compared to what? It gives me the Blood Rage feeling but with less tenseness around the gameplay but more fun as you mess with each other. It is a lot of fun for sure, hopefully that's coming through as we play.
Totally hear. It's a complicated game to pick up, and it didn't help that literally every single one of my 3 plays had changed rules in between each one.
@@BoardGameCo makes sense. Hard to showcase a moving beast. One smaller channel I love for playthroughs (and think deserves wider promotion) is Guerric Samples Games. I have followed through their progress on all the iterative changes for John Company 2. But I guess, their focus is on being play testers of heavy games.
@@BoardGameCo Could I ask what do you mean by changed rules? Have you got explicit access to rulebook revisions from REDZEN Games, other than the 1.0 version that's downloadable from the KS campaign page? Just curious as I'd like to read up on the changes.
@@BoardGameCo Ah, OK, I probably totally missed that part (though I do recall you saying you purposely chose jobs that worked well together -- I assume you did the "Job Draft" variant?). Whatever that Job is seems like a really cool one. Initially it seems like it might be a bit OP'd, but as Jessie pointed out at one point, it comes at a cost of having to tie up Thugs in to Authorities instead of allowing them to go to the Underworld, or protect neighbourhoods (not that you had any neighbourhoods to protect at the time) I am wondering if it might balance it a bit more by having any Thugs in Authorities get returned to your Safe House (not Prison) as part of the Raid; this would be akin to Elliott Ness "cleaning up" the police force.
Regarding the refreshing of the market cards at 40.12. Am I right in saying that the Brothel Madams should of been placed in space 1 to the right, sliding right other cards. By placing Brothel Madams in slot 3, she'll be ready for the bin quicker?
I think that for complex games in general, it's understandable that you won't get it right even after the first few plays. Heck, I can't recall how many times I had to look at the rulebook of Mage Knight even after 10 plays. My point is that we shouldn't judge the game simply because the players seem unsure in their second playthrough, although it would have been ideal if they were more confident. This is a playthrough, not a how to play video. Having said that, it would be nice to see more videos of the game's playthrough, just because there's not really any other channel that is doing this.
3rd playthrough for me, more for them, but yes, this game has a lot of steps, but just as importantly some things changed between plays for each of my plays. Makes it even harder to be certain on certain aspects.
I haven't finished watching this yet, but I am 1h40 in, and why hasn't anyone taken the Family Ring from Alex? Everyone (particularly Shira) have hired Associates throughout the game, which I believe is one of the conditions under which one can claim it?

I did back it. I hope it plays well at 2P, as like you, it is just my wife and I (though we have friends we get together with, but it is mostly restaurants and stuff; rarely "game nights"). For what it's worth, these last two gameplays have made me less enthusiastic for this game and I honestly can't tell if that's on the players or on the game itself with how jumbled everything is. Another good game ruined by anglo-saxons/north-europeans due to their lack of interaction. This game was created by Spaniards, and it mainly shows that because the meta-game is about interaction and socialization between the players.
