in the last video, the RC boat has a solar panel on it. does the boat operate on solar power ? because if not, and that panel is there without giving power to the motors, then you are a LIAR !
It should be noted too that the points that other people (perhaps rather rudely) brought up about the boat shape were actually validated by your experiences on this trip. Ok, not the offroading experience. That was an unexpected adventure. The bit at the end with all the wind. You have a tall boat with a low wetted surface ratio and no keel at all. When you calculate the stability on this kind of design you get a result known as "Negative GM" in the boat design world. This means that it will always be very unstable and very susceptible to wind effects, as you saw. You had to essentially massively overpower it and utterly abandon the idea of efficiency in order to defeat the wind. Even then you simply could not get the little boat to point upwind. It just kept "falling off" the upwind course, turning back and then falling off in the other direction, zigging and zagging it's way to shore. This was entirely due to the design of the boat. I know you and others have made the comparison to cargo ships. But you are forgetting that scale and proportion matters. Your boat is smaller, but the water isn't less dense to allow your boat to sit lower. So it pops up like a cork on the surface showing massive amounts of freeboard to the wind, even with insane amounts of ballast. Also, the proportions of your boat are nothing like those of a large cargo ship. They are much more like those of a world war 2 "Liberty Ship" or a tramp steamer or fishing vessel. But none of those have flat bottoms. All are traditional compound curved displacement hulls with at a minimum a vestigial keel to help maintain course and hold ballast. This is what the other people were trying, in a very rude way, to tell you. While this is a design that you can "make" work, it isn't a design that is inherently "good" and it needs significant assistance to get to the level of function you want. At minimum, a heavy metal keel bolted securely to the bottom (Literally just a strip of 1/8" x 1.5" mild steel bar) will dramatically improve the straight line performance of your boat. However it won't solve the overall "cork" design problem you have going on. That will take a total redesign of the boat hull. On the off chance you haven't seen this one, here's a short course on ship hull geometry from the Naval Engineering Education Center: ua-cam.com/video/Iml-lynj3bM/v-deo.html It's pretty basic, so I hope you don't take offense to my offering it. But it's a good starting point. They have extensive (and increasingly complex) videos on offer on their channel. Obviously it is oriented towards large naval ship design, so some of what they discuss won't apply, but the overall principles will. Lastly, don't let criticism get you down, and don't take it personally. While I can't speak for anyone else, I love the crazy stuff you are willing to do, and my criticism is offered purely in the spirit of being constructive. I want to do what little I can to help you make better and cooler stuff. I can't wait to see what you come up with next! That gate you reached was for a VOR station. They are used throughout the globe for areal navigation. It stands for Very High Frequency Omni-Directional Radio Range. It shoots out radial beams that indicate which bearing you are travelling through compared to it. If you know which bearing you are passing through, and your distance to the station (displayed on instruments) you can find you position in relation to it.
I couldn't go to sleep until I finished this video. Congratulations for finishing the long trip. As a R/C boat lover I would like to share some tips. One of the best greases for filling the shaft tubing is Molykote 33. It has a very light base oil that doesn't cause much drag when motor is spinning. Being a silicone grease it's extremely water resistant. You can also redesign the propeller shaft tubing by attaching a stuffing box at one end of it and inside the boat. The tubing doesn't need to be filled with grease in this case, but the stuffing box needs to be filled with a mixture of grease and cotton/some other fiber. Then you add a lid to it, the lid can move along the shaft. The you install a l spring or clip that pushes the lid towards the stuffing when loaded, the lid will in turn squash the stuff and keep it tight around the shaft. This sealing can stay water tight for the whole day letting in absolutely no water. EDIT: Forgot to mention the dust part. What an adventure through such a horrible "road". I guess that fine dust is from those broken rocks ground by the water of the lake/river millions of years ago. I may not dare to even go there. Looking forward to more your adventures.

Or turn on your a/c to outside air and high speed fan...does the same thing to the cab......will pressurise the back if you have a window through to the camper...
I came in expecting an RC boat video, but this ended up being a drama filled survival movie and I loved it. Sorry for your hardships, but it made great content haha!
You need to rig a sail on it so that it can, autonomously of course, utilise the wind for additional propulsion, expandig it's useful range! It's the next logical step, surely?
It'd probably be significantly easier to make an autonomous sailing ship using a flettner rotor rather than a conventional sail but I'm not sure if it would work well at this scale. Also, to make a sailing vessel of any kind, he's going to need a much more stable hull design.
@@The_Seeker It would be really cool with a folding sail rig that only popped up under the right conditions. It might not be able to power the vessel alone, but add some energy, under the right conditions, without weighing too much.
"I've never been so happy to see an inanimate object. No, don't stop! I don't want to get wet." LOL. This has to be one of your most entertaining videos ever. Great job.

The cool cliffs you were seeing are carved into layer after layer of volcanic rock; the whole area was covered with flood basalt, with the total thickness of all the flows getting up to 3 miles deep in some places, and 2+ miles deep for a lot of the area. It's also part of the reason why the floods from glacial lakes were able to carve so deeply into the rock, since it was relatively easy to pry away at loose fractures and such, and the reason why the nearby Snake River was able to carve the deepest river gorge on the continent (deeper even than the Grand Canyon).
12:21 - Turkeys and deer often feed together. Turkeys have insanely good eyesight and color perception while the deer have great hearing and movement sight. Peacocks are just assholes. 13:49 - we call that sugar sand in the south.
Just a bit of helpful advice from an avid off-roader. Before your next off highway adventure, pick up the stuff on this list and you should be good to go. 1) set of maxtraxx recover boards. 2) tire valve stem deflators. 3) high volume air compressor Airing down to about 15psi will help a bunch in that talcum powder type sand. Without the valve stem deflators,it takes forever to let the air out on all four tires. A company called Morrflate makes a kit that allows you to air UP all four tires at the same time. Great channel. Keep up the awesome videos.
Great adventure, that makes best memories! Nextime take the protein shake and wine sugar with you. Drink at least 2 doses protein thru the day and the wine sugar everytime you have taste for it. Or turn on your a/c to outside air and high speed fan...does the same thing to the cab......will pressurise the back if you have a window through to the camper...
Ay driving to darwin we noticed dust filling up behind the speedometer 😯

This was better than a movie, excitement, drama, food and a happy ending. Thanks for sharing this with us.
At first step I was thinking I won't watch 27 mins of a boat but that was so enjoyable and I watch it until the end
Nice mission, keep up
I came in expecting an RC boat video, but this ended up being a drama filled survival movie and I loved it.
Next logical step is a submarine.
@@The_Seeker It would be really cool with a folding sail rig that only popped up under the right conditions. It might not be able to power the vessel alone, but add some energy, under the right conditions, without weighing too much.
I am all for the sailboat conversion! Hoist the jib!
@@The_Seeker he could base it off of a Chris White mast foil catamaran design

"What college is this for?" Uhm, no college, i'm just a nerd 😂 Amazing video once again, kudos you have amazing dedication and its lovely to watch

"I've never been so happy to see an inanimate object. No, don't stop! I don't want to get wet." LOL. This has to be one of your most entertaining videos ever. Great job.
Loved it. And didn't even have clickbait. Could you imagine, "RC boat 30 mile mission GONE WRONG". This man is passionate about what he does and doesn't need clickbait to get there.
You’re spoiling us with these uploads! Also: I love this boat 😜
I don't remember ever using emojis lol. I'lm so confused.
I really want a sound file of Daniel saying "flipping into auto mode" to put on my transmitter 😎
It's like this little boat has a movie about its journey. This video is beautiful. Thank you for sharing this. Also, tranquil singing vibes
New air filter for your truck! Good thing it's a Tacoma, those are solid trucks. And super cool adventure!
12:21 - Turkeys and deer often feed together. Turkeys have insanely good eyesight and color perception while the deer have great hearing and movement sight.
Peacocks are just assholes.
13:49 - we call that sugar sand in the south.
SUGAR SAND
yuck, no wonder dust balls used to be a problem.
In Australia, it's called "bull dust".
Sometimes it swallows a Toyota - entirely. He will definitely need a new air filter after that, fer shur!
What you do with RC and autonomy is amazing. One day you'll make it across the Pacific/Atlantic. This is your most high adventure mission. Cool 👍👍
Autonomous mission to Alaska. Go go go!
@@EFCasual Autonomously follow a cruise ship that rctest is onboard for the week. Seattle to Alaska and back.
Be sure to plot a course that avoids off-shore kelp beds! They're prop-fouling hell!
That was an awesome adventure. Nail-biting finish. Long live the HMS Banana Slug!
Just a bit of helpful advice from an avid off-roader. Before your next off highway adventure, pick up the stuff on this list and you should be good to go.
1) set of maxtraxx recover boards.
2) tire valve stem deflators.
3) high volume air compressor
Airing down to about 15psi will help a bunch in that talcum powder type sand. Without the valve stem deflators,it takes forever to let the air out on all four tires. A company called Morrflate makes a kit that allows you to air UP all four tires at the same time. Great channel. Keep up the awesome videos.
A winch is always a good addition also.
Great adventure, that makes best memories! Nextime take the protein shake and wine sugar with you. Drink at least 2 doses protein thru the day and the wine sugar everytime you have taste for it. It helps a lot to keep your energy for long day like this. We using beef jerky as well, mostly if we cannt bring protein with us (because of limited weight).
Awesome video, had everything! Tears, laughter, roller-coaster of emotions and a happy ending! Congrats on finishing the mission!
I'm sorry, but you getting stuck and looking like you came out of the sahara desert was utterly hilarious, I continued giggling up to long after you showed the aftermath of the inside of the car 😂
Did you ever thought of extending your telemetry signal in the air (drone or something)?
This would give you temporarily access to telemetry data.
You could also equip a drone (not the mavic ;)) with a hook or something to lift the HHS Banana out of the water if there are any problems.
I was following the project quite a while, definitely making progress, congrats!
Triangulation. Not a bad idea. A repeater of some sort. Have the boat connect to something on the drone and repeat the signal to the computer
Came here to ask that too. Have a plane go out on runs closer to the boat to get telemetry. Having it lauder above for various portion of the mission!
I thought the same thing, do a jump from transmitter to receiver to receiver, I don’t know about the hook though, he said it was like 40 lbs
WOW! YOU ARE A GENIUS! YOUR TALKING ABOUT ALL THIS TECHNOLOGY STUFF LIKE ITS NORMAL! I WISH I COULD LEARN HOW YOU DID ALL THIS! IT JUST LOOKS SUPER COMPLICATED.
GREAT WORK MAN!
This felt like a movie, fantastic video
You going though all that crap with the truck then swimming naked to avoid a swamp, only to get a shot of your junk on the pc screen made this the best video of yours, the editing is pure comedy gold at that point. I'm sure it will all be worth it on the long run.

Maybe you could try different propellor designs that won't catch weeds in them. Or maybe try making water jets?
That would work, but would it suck up the weeds. And it’s probably not as efficient as propellers.
Impeller maybe great
Or motor with 10 wide but short oars attached each
@@andrewcuzzolino8277 then make metal ones with sharp edges, maybe they would get chopped up
or also have people send Daniel propeller designs like "fan showdown" (Major Hardware)
@@MrGuliton true, but it could rap around the rod connecting it to the boat like weeds sometimes do with a weed eater.
I think that your doing something with RC boats that are definitely at a level I never heard of. Your videos are inspiring.
Make sure you change your truck's air filters (engine and cabin) after that journey!! Awesome video
14:29 Daniel, while chasing his boat, somehow gets lost on Mars. Mark Watteny unable to come to the assist
This is a bot that reply to you.
Lol “google says it’s a road”. Reminds me when Michael Scott drove into the lake.
Hey, at least it’s not Apple maps.
How about a telemetry data repeater placed in a plane or quad to get some altitude?
a repeater in an autonomes plane that is flying along with the boat would be awesome
@@crazyphil3000 or atleast one he can use on the pitstops, a plane won't have the endurance of the boat
Unless it's a solar plane maybe : )
Oh shit I literally just commented the same thing without realising that someone already had the idea! I’ll leave my comment up just so he has a greater chance of seeing!
I was thinking the same thing
Great work mate ----scale up the Boat size as you progress with AUTONOMOUS missions
thats called dedication when you get up a 4:30 am for a tiny rc boat, i fide your content so amazing, keep it up!
You should do a telemetry relay drone to send out when it's far away.
Good idear
"I'm driving through 4 feet tall grass, there's no road here. Oh there's the road." Classic 🤣
Loving the videos! How about an R/C automated Yacht, complete with wind sock, self adjusting sails and rudder. Hell, you could even put some cannons on one side. I believe you could make it pick its own mini way points so it can tack up wind to your destination.
27:08 - never heard Type 2 fun mentioned in the wild outside of an REI blog and from my friend saying it lol. I love it, awesome work.
i searched REI out of curiosity what you meant, got some unexpected results.
This was the most dedicated and wild video I have watched of yours. Props
20:02
Filming Daniel: I'll get a shot of the mission planner and where the boat says it ended up.
Editor Daniel: Well that didn't exactly work out in my favor.
Good job as always! Maybe a try would be rotate the propellor the other way to get rid of the seaweeds
Every video of yours is always so damn inspiring. I love how this series has come along!
I’ve been watching your channel when you were just starting to build your own quads. I knew then that there was much more to you than just a kid into RC’s. I expect to see great things come from you. Keep up the good work and I love your content! You have a lot of heart!
This should be a movie! Absolutely awesome adventure! ⛵ ❤
Thank you for documenting this adventure! I've never been so emotionally invested into an rc boat before 😅
Incredible! It was like a Greek epic we would read in English class
Exiting! Pinned to the screen all the way trough. You have the skills to make these videos interesting and exiting without dead points. Maybe Discovery Channel or Netflix will contact you:-)
This was an epic to rival Jason and the Argonauts :D
Well done for sticking with it!
This kind of thing don't really float my boat, but dude what a great little film. Thanks for sharing. Nuf respect from the UK.
lol peacocks, those are definitely turkeys - hens specifically :)
Brought back some stressful memories of when I started doing 100 mile missions with my first boat 'Haggis'. Just a quick 'life tip':- Beware not to be condescending of people that end up really going out of their way to help you. Good luck with your ventures, and thank you for a great video.
Dude, autonomous rc boats and offroad adventures? Hella sick! You totally deserve huge props (:p) and I cant wait to see what you do next.
I loved the lengths you went to for this little boat!
Great project. Awesome video, commentary, and sound track. Nice plug for SimpliSafe. Keep up the fun work!
I think a better name for that boat would be "Banana Barge ", it is amazing! I am always impressed by your projects like this.
Keep up the great content! Love your dedication 😂
Please consider modifying the boat to abide by 33 CFR § 83.27(a). Get a small mast on it with two red lights stacked vertically while the RC boat is piloting itself.
Idk about Washington but that light is all you need for a boat that small in Wisconsin
Unbelievable video. Dream-like scenery and crazy antics
