Congrats on the nice Yellowtail, Mikey. You are putting in some serious time on the water. Here this week I have gone to LJ 3 times and twice a week for the last 3 weeks before that, but that doesn't even come close to the day and night sessions you're putting in. Enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Thank you Mark! It's always a pleasure reading your comments and seeing you out on the water. You know first hand what it takes and that is the story I was trying to tell in this episode. But what I've learned is that something special happens when you enjoy the process of fishing. If you enjoy the process of fishing enough the catching turns into a bonus. And the best part about fishing is that I get to share my bonus catches with others through my UA-cam channel and sushi and smoked fish! Life is good!
Right on LandoFishing! I really appreciate the local love and support. We got you in on the contest. Best of luck. Hope to fish with you soon. Tight lines!
Mikey!! Yessah!!🤙awesome video !! You were on a #soloskiff journey October solo sesh hitting the ocean my braddah! Was so cool to met up with you on our lobster solo smash that night with the crew that was epic! Congrats on your nice haul YT you couldn't have three damn seals lol but the end you were reward with a beautiful fish and beauty about it seeing the little kiddo on the beach amaze seeing your fish with big smiles that's what it made it special on your video positive vibes showing what the ocean can offer with good eats.. again awesome video my braddah cant wait to get on the water with you again enjoy our backyard and slay some onolicious fish!! Nelson! Your are the man! Always sending me the best vibes through UA-cam comments then getting to hit the water with you and the Solo Skiff crew that night was such a special experience I will never forget. Showing both children and adults through my UA-cam episodes that in this day and age it is still possible to go out into the ocean free of charge, pull fresh fish out, and then enjoy the catch with friends and family is what I love to do. Thank you for being such a great source of energy as I go through this journey of life!
That was great seeing you on the water and you'r very welcome fo the bait. I've told your bonito story to multiple people already. Haha. Hopefully I see you on the water again soon. This time with a yellowtail or on a Solo Skiff. Thanks for the support Chris!

Right on man this was an enjoyable edit to watch. I miss La Jolla and nice to see how you have figured out that Solo Skiff. I had one here in Guam but prefer my Hobie Pro Angler 12. Waters can just get a bit too rough for the Solo here. Great shot of that seal with the Yellowtail in its mouth, such a cool opportunity shot. Keep on fishing hard!
I remember you from kayak fishing La Jolla and you even came up one time when my PA was taking on a lot of water and you made sure I was OK. Thanks for watching and the support. Great day OTW. Congratulations. But No, No, No; I am not even thinking about a Solo Skiff. Nope, not gonna think about it. No, sir. Where do they rent these? But I'm not gonna think about it.
Thank you! I'm not sure on the brand of the trailer. It came as part of the packakewhen I got the Solo Skiff. It is a aluminum trailer for a small skiff. I can measure out the dimensions by hand with a tape if you really want to know.
I don’t ask anyone to watch my stuff but there always seems to be someone around checking out the rig and asking me questions when I come back from parking the truck. Thanks for watching and the support!
I think 2 speed is overkill. My original favorite yellowtail reel is the Shimano TLD 20 and my new favorite is Avet SX. Old Od school reel is Daiwa Sealine 20 or Daiwa Seagate 40.
new subscriber here. How difficult is it to transport a solo skiff without a trailer? I have a pick up truck and thinking about just putting in the truck bed with an extender? Will launching from a boat ramp be a pain without a trailer??
Thank you for subscribing. For me the Solo Skiff is relatively easy to transport without a trailer. If you watch my Northern California Salmon video you can see how I load and unload it into the bed of my F150. I have had issues with steep launch ramps like Gold Beach Oregon where I had to unload up top onto my sand tires and wheel it down the ramp and launch. I prefer the trailer but when traveling do not like to be limited by towing speed.
The sand tires are DIY that I got from someone when I bought a used Hobie PA off him. They are essentially the wheeleez big sand tires on the frame with two pvc pipes covered in astro turf to keep the frame spread wide. I got lucky that the width he built is for the Hobie PA works perfect for the Solo Skiff.

100% Smoked, ceviche, poke, fried. Bonito is like yellowtail Your can do everything with it as long as you handle it correctly and cut out all the dark meat.
