  • I recently purchased a Bayfield 29 that had been previously sunken. A good man rescued it and sold it to me. The boat requires a total refurb as you'll see in this video. This video is the first instalment of the refurbishing process.

      Thanks so much. I've been working away on getting it ready to launch. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll have the next video up about that whole process.

    You've got some work to do, but it's a pretty boat to work with. I'm down-sizing from my 50' schooner back to my long-neglected and back-yarded Westerly Centaur I started out with. For "men of a certain age,' (I'm 67) a nice, comfortable, easy to handle sailing machine you can trust single-handing in crappy weather is a much nicer match than a 30,000 lb. steel monster. The only changes I'd like to make in the Centaur would be to add a bowsprit for another jib and change the main to a gaff-rig. But I may be too impatient to get all that done before returning her to the water. Good luck on your boat, man. I've subscribed so I'll know when you've put out a new video.

      Thanks for subscribing and commenting. I just checked out the Centaur. It does indeed look like a good, sturdy boat. I'd say this 29' will be as big as I'll go. There's something to be said for simplicity and ease. Hopefully I don't wish I had stuck with the 23' after I sell it and move to the 29". Life is a journey. Thanks.

      I've got an old Alberg 22 hull that someday will have a traditional cutter rig with a gaff main - maybe a topsail, high wood toe rail merging back to a higher quarter rail, wooden running blocks including deadeyes, etc. But I'm leaving my B25 alone and just enjoy sailing her as much as possible while my 'project boat' waits patiently. 😁😁

    Should be fun times getting her fixed up and will be nice in a bit.

      Yessir.The hope is to get the boat in the water and functional this year. If that all works out I'll nice her up a bit for next summer.

    How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! Love the Bayfield's and the B29 is a great boat for its size! Good luck and looking forward to the refit.

      That's true. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm hoping to have the boat in the water in a couple of weeks. We'll see how it goes. Thanks.

    g'day Bill and Gerald, ...been watching all your GREAT videos time and again ...yis b'ys, they're some good - like listening to good music.
    Your B29 is going to be a real winner and I know you'll do a great job on her. Just don't be in too much of a rush. Take a break now and again and get out on your B23/5 and make a video or two while you're exploring some of the beautiful places around Dildo and Trinity Bay. BTW, that background guitar adds a real nice touch and perhaps you could consider putting that song (from your sailing to Chance Cove video) in one of your upcoming 'adventure' videos. Meanwhile all the very best and I'll be thinking of you while I sail on my own B25 on the wilds of eastern Lake Ontario this summer.😀

      Thanks so much Fred. To continue sailing and take my time with the repair is good advice. We're still sitting in 6-10 degrees here unfortunately. Newfoundland spring... lol. But that's supposed to turn around soon and we'll get some good adventures in, as I'm sure you will too. If you get back this way, be sure and come to Dildo and look us up. I'd love to have a conversation on the wharf, and maybe a sail.

      that's a definite - not sure when but hopefully sooner than later. If you're ever up this way, do the same and we'll have a time - to be sure!

    yous guys can can sure find some good looking unique boats , when it was new that boat would have been gorgeous ,not sure i like the engine hatch on cockpit floor ,thats a flooding waiting to happen

    • @newfoundsailing
      @newfoundsailing  Рік тому

      Hopefully we can bring her back to gorgeous. The way the hatch is designed, with a raised lip underneath, it shouldn't be an issue. If it is an issue, some fibreglass should fix it shut. It does however, make for easy access to the engine and shaft area, and we can lower the engine through it when we put it back in. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for commenting.

      I agree Bill and Gerald, The motor (Yanmar YSE8) in my B25 is a real pain to get at. To access it through the stb. cockpit seat hatch is even more painful and I'm thinking of making and installing a hatch similar to yours in your B29. I'll need to reinforce the cockpit sole around this hatch and put a thick enough rubber seal around the top of the hatch lip and provide as many as needed firm lock-tight latches to prevent any leaks even if the well becomes swamped. I mean, this hatch would remain sealed except for major engine/drivetrain work and for pre and post season service.😉😉

      Nice. I've seen videos of a Bayfield sailing in Notre Dame Bay. From what I hear it's a beautiful bay for boating/sailing. Good to hear there's a few around. Nice to hear from you.
