Yes we still have some areas that need fixing, and yes some areas we are very weak in, but we played pretty fluid football (when the ref wasn't gifting you freekicks) for the majority of the game, and again you didn't have a sniff of goal until the 78th minute, and even that should have been comfortably saved, the 2-1 scoreline looks very flattering for yous considering what it should have been.

Think the Grimsby Town fans are missing the point. Fact is they are a bottom half side. We aren’t saying we are a top side and we lost. We are pretty much saying what some of you have said. If we can’t be Grimsby Town, what does that say about our team. We keep getting told by those at the top of our club and some fans who still believe what they say that we should go up. But if we can’t even beat Grimsby Town, it tells us that even the play-off’s might be out of reach and on that evidence we will probably finish a few positions in and around where Grimsby Town are. The tables don’t lie, it’s not like Grimsby have been near the top since being promoted from the National League, they’ve been near the bottom. There’s nothing Korban can do to change that. Hopefully that’s cleared up the black and white thinking (pun kind of intended) that if we are calling Grimsby Town crap it must mean we are calling Bradford City great. No, we are saying the opposite, maybe Bradford City aren’t anywhere near as good as some people are trying to make out.

So I actually do want to see Grimsby Town do well. But I don’t think it is unreasonable saying Grimsby Town are the sort of team we need to be beating based on bottom half finishes, spending time going up from and down from the National League etc. The expectations and promises (mostly broken) at this club is something you’d need to better understand to see why it’s not meant as a dig at Grimsby and more to point out that what the club want us to believe about our club (one of the longest serving teams in L2) vs the reality (losing to Grimsby Town) are 2 completely different things. And Grimsby Town, unfortunately serve as a kind of barometer for where we actually are, compared to where too many people think we are (our happy clappers who call us negative for pointing out the truth). I’m sure the expectation at Grimsby Town isn’t automatic promotion, yet we have many fans who believe we are good enough for it even though the pre-season and transfer window looks like we are just doing exactly the same thing we have been that has kept us down. So it’s not meant as a dig at Grimsby Town, but you have to know the wider politics at the club to get why Grimsby Town is held up as an example when we get beaten. Basically we are saying there’s a good reason we lost to Grimsby Town, because contrary to what some at our club think, in reality at the end of the season there is mostly evidence that points to us finishing in around the same position as you.

For the last 5 years we’ve been given the same BS by the owner & CEO and some of our fans believe we are auto contenders with precious little evidence of us doing anything different from the previous years. We know how this ends, manager gets sacked in Feb (if not Nov) and we all get behind the next manager and blame the last one rather than looking at the fundamental issue which is the owner and CEO. So it’s not just one match, it’s a measurement of where we are in reality to where the owner and CEO and those who think they can do no wrong think the club is. And you also have to weight that with the fact those fans pointing it out have to take crap for it, yet year on year the club pull something out of the bag to distract those fans Mark Hughes was one, this season the owner has promised to invest in the playing squad yet there’s been zero evidence. It’s just lies. And since Grimsby Town have bounced between the National League and finished in the bottom half of the table I doubt many of you expect auto promotion like some of our fans do. And that’s the point, it’s not saying Grimsby Town are crap, just if you take into consideration all of the promises and has listened to all the BS about how lucky we are to have Stefan Rupp as an owner, yet look at the reality, this defeat perfectly sums up where we are in reality. Non of our strikers apart rom Cook are good enough for promotion. Walker should have been starting from the 1st game of the season. He did more in thus game than Pattison has done in the past 3 as a starter. Defence was always a concern. Byrne wasn't helped by Alexander playing him as the slowest player on the pitch on the right. And poor Cooky. Playing with his back to goal trying to win some hoof balls. GA has created a team of wingless wonders. Despite a big squad he has few options to change tactics. Although I'm really not sure what our tactics are tbh. We have yet to play a team above us in the table albeit early days. But imo I cant see the promised increased investment. Indeed I'd say its gone down and that the team that ended last season look better than this one.

I said that our performance and victory last week was not convincing against 10 men for 85 minutes and got pelters. Something is not going quite right in the current mix, but the season is young and Alexander needs to get it right this season for his own sake.
