Looking good Sam. I zig zagged mine back and forth a few times on my g0704. How do you plan on grooving the inside of the dovetails? I had to do that my hand with a Dremel. I also put a short slot on the back of the gib that goes over the thru hole. That allows the gib to be adjusted and still have a channel leading to the saddle thru hole.
I will not be grooving the inside of the dovetails. My thoughts are the weight is on the flat surfaces the dovetails are for side to side play therefore a hole to the dovetails should provide enough lubricant. Having a hole through the gibb that is countersunk on both sides will assure that oil passes through the whole adjustment range. The oil is of a fairly thin viscosity ( SAE 20 ) and has no trouble reaching everything. Be Safe, Sam
If I were to add oil channels I'd make certain the grooves never get exposed at the limits of travel. If they are allowed to open, the oil won't have any tendency to tunnel under the surfaces (no matter how slight), and will take the path of least resistance to the open end. Viscosity is the only saving grace with open grooves, it presents some backpressure to help force oil to "leak" off at the edges of the grooves as intended. No matter the path taken, your setup is absolutely superior to the factory setup.
Nice to see the X2 made a cameo appearance. I was wondering if the cuts were going to be with a wood router or circular saw or angle grinder. What oil will you be using? Way and slide oil, a substitute or a home brew?
Mobil1Vactra 2 ISO68 WAY Oil Its supposed to have Thickeners in it to stick to the ways and other rust preventatives. I Got it from ENCO for only $18 a gal. I think this will last a while.
I think the reason most swing the groove back across the surface is because without it there is a section that would never be oiled at the travel extents. this is most likely not a huge deal for a moderate use machine though I wouldn't think.

The One Shot oiler is Model Y-8 has a 500ml reservoir and dispenses 8CC or 8ML however you want to measure. it has a port on each side. Not sure how often it will be as needed I'll keep a check on the ways but best guess is 1 shot every 6 hrs of run time. but for me maybe once a week.
I can think of a few reasons , Take the X table it would be Hard to groove a long surface and when no in contact with the saddle the groove would be upside down and exposed.
Awesome. I need to do this on my G0704 some day.
Yeah Not as difficult as I thought it would be!

Good Point Chris , I considered that but when I took a close look at it it just seemed that all surfaces would get oil at some time or another.
Nice video!! What oil will you be using? And how often wil the machine get oiled?

Wicked clever, Sam! How deep are the grooves?
Thanks,

Why Dont you add the oil groove on the moving part instead of on the steady
part.
As I see it you will almost always expose the groove.
