Great cover on the shells. Your version though is similar the Krupa version. I use to play the drums and seeing this kinda stuff makes me wanna run out and sit behind a nice trap set and start working the ol shells. My last set was a great acoustic Maplewood Gretch set and it sounded sweet for jazz and swing. Anyway ,I enjoyed it and wished we could more music like this but maybe with a modern flair, if there's such a thing. Keep kicking and sticking...great job ,loved it.
One thing I noticed that I didn't mention earlier. unless you were using your base and kick to help keep time . in real time the base is really not used as much except for some accent beats in that swing tune. Even the late Krupa used less base and worked brass and upper shells. But none the less still great cover work.
Thanks again for watching. I think that the steady feathering of the kick drum is used, and works well, in big band situations like this. I agree that it should be more sparse in smaller group jazz settings. It really depends on the era you are trying to emulate. Up until the 50's, I think they played the bass drum pretty straight. It was the small group jazz that introduced the kick/snare doing accents and embellishments. I really appreciate your interest in my channel. Please let me know if you have any other input. Take care - Shane
I really love this. Just the type of music I love to listen to, and that was fantastic work. I envy your ability to listen to songs and be able to notate the drum parts. It's something I struggle with. Does it just take really good ear training, or is there a trick to it? I would appreciate some tips. :)
+Rhythm Boo - Thanks, I appreciate the support! It does take a lot of practice to be able to recognize rhythms quickly, but thankfully I learned to read music very young. I started transcribing songs back when I had to do it with cassette tapes, and I nearly wore a few out with the constant rewinding. I don't think I have any tricks, sorry. You just need to be able to open the song in an audio editing program that you can use to listen to a small section at a time and keep repeating until you get it. The quality of the track makes a huge difference. Some of the older rock stuff is nearly impossible to pick out the bass drum sometimes.
@@RedeyePerc I am an older woman and I'm going to learn to play this by watching you! I have taken lessons forever and I read notes.. so with that and your style I can do this! Thanks
Thanks! You are correct, this is more like the big bang Goodman version, but I usually give credit to the original writer when I post a cover video. Take care.
Redeye Percussion. Yes Prima's original pop-swing version didn't really feature the drum but Prima's trumpet. You did a great job and picked the best arrangement.
+Brooke Smith - Thanks - I usually only drag a tie out a couple times a year, and it seemed to fit, so I went with it. My brother did give me a strange look on the way out the door.
I like your cover of the song. No overplaying. Each drummer has their own interpretation. Good job, sir!
Thanks! I’ve built my channel on the idea of not overplaying. Most because I don’t have the chops to do that anyway. 😀
Great cover! Love the work on the low tom, sounds so smooth. Good choice dressing up for it too, really fits the tune.
+Benjamin Kenneally - Thanks! I appreciate the kind words.
Everything great. Very unique video. I love all the shots. Not seen on others. How do you keep bass going without wearing out. Very classy.
Brilliant! Ty. Great groove and rhythm. Really stomping. 😀
I luv that song! Very good groovy playing again Shane. Thank u very much! :D
+Ruti Kuiwa - Thanks for watching! I had a lot of fun with this one.

+Scott Ross - Thank you!
Very nice! However, that sounds like the Benny Goodman version not Louis Prima's (original) version.
