That is a good explanation. People need to understand the difference between these two compounds if they want to use medical cannabis for their medication.

In the US, natural products fall into a weird regulatory niche. Everything you can consume is a "food" but If it has medical affects then it is considered a drug and thus regulated by the FDA and/or DEA. There are two exception to this - Alcohol and Tobacco and those are managed by a separate regulatory group - the ATF - which weirdly also regulates firearms. As you alluded to, natural substances that have medical effects are not something the FDA was not structure to regulate. The FDA regulates drug manufacturers, their products, and their processes. Natural reproduction is a highly complex process. They could approve drugs produced from Marijuana, but not the natural process itself. Also, from a regulatory process, since everyone acknowledges that Marijuana is a drug (has medical effects) and since a Schedule 1 drugs is defined as "drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse" and since the FDA hasn't/can't approved it for medical use, then it is kind of stuck there. I find it really interesting that Tobacco and Alcohol clearly meet the definition for a Schedule 1 drug but they are under the ATF instead. At some point this issue needs to be fixed but but neither the ATF, the FDA, the DEA, nor the DOA has any interest in changing things.
Yeah , CBD has an open Pyran ring making it act in three dimensions where on the THC molecule that ring is closed . this makes CBD an antagonist compound and THC an agonist basically
I’ve been taking CBD for sleep issues. It does have a small amount of THC and sometimes if I get too desperate for sleep and take more it can get me high. I don’t like how it sends my brain into loops or how fractures my focus and shortens my attention span to that of a fruit fly. I have bipolar disorder and wonder if that’s why it short circuits my thinking for several months. Otherwise, it seems helpful for insomnia. I’ve heard it can also increase heart palpitations if you have that problem which I do. I feel like I’m a bit psychologically dependent bc despite these drawbacks I keep buying and taking this stuff. Any guidance out there?
And the amazing thing is that I, from watching you talk about cannabis, got totally high on you. So im now on a Soph oil spelled LOVE and it totally works :D
Hemp and marijuana are not just different names for cannabis. They are two different cannabis plants. And they look quite different. The best way to take in CBD is to smoke hemp flower, that is by far the most effective way 😊
No, that's not accurate anymore. One can now acquire drug type cannabis seed which produces plants with similar levels of cannabinoids as other drug type cultivars, but instead of producing mostly THC, they produce mostly CBD. For instance you can purchase seeds that produce over 20% CBD by dry weight. I'm quite sure hemp varieties do not produce such a high concentration of CBD.
I work at a marijuana dispensary and my favorite high comes from a candy bar that we sell and it has 125mg of THC and 125mg CBD. I only mention this because so many people avoid CBD THC combo’s.
Thanks, Soph. It is amazing how you are able to study, digest and then present interesting and informative topics in a concise and humorous way. Don't let it go to your head but you are great at doing this.
Not to be blunt but Nebula is dope. Hear about my experience with CBD in an extended ad-free version of this video here: nebula.tv/videos/sophs-notes-the-cannabis-chemical-rivalry-thc-vs-cbd
Very informative, thanks.... EVERYBODY who knows nothing about the cannabinoids we currently have, needs to watch this. The SYNTHETIC made cannabinoids some being dangerous, are being made because cannabis is ILLEGAL. That's the only type of cannabinoids causing harm is due to thc being illegal. This is what happens pretty much with any drug the law decides to regulate, but cannabis should not be federally schedule 1....that's ridiculous
Nebula doesn’t have a comment section which is sad. I wanted to say that gummies might affect you differently based on your menstrual cycle. I take ritalin for adhd and it works super well in the first phase but it’s like useless in the luteal phase and just gives me more anxiety. But you have to track it to spot a pattern. Because like reproductive hormones affect all kinds of stuff like how much baseline dopamine you have floating around. I imagine anything with neurological/cognitive effects would be affected by your hormonal state. Ok lols comments for 2 videos in one go
I found gummies that have 3mg of THC, 8mg of *CBN* and 25 mg of CBD. These gummies REALLY help with sleep. Won’t get you “high” (unless you take more) but literally the best sleep I’ve ever had. Seems like THC has a J-curve. Once you take too much the medicinal effects wear down while the recreational effects take over. A small amount of THC is great for sleep. But don’t discount the “minor cannabinoids” it’s the CBN in there that really helps with sleep. I’ve tried full spectrum gummies as well that has all the minor cannabinoids and a small bit of THC (2mg) which may sound weak, but you can really feel the entourage effect when you take it with all the compounds as nature intended! Take 1 for anxiety, 2 for sleep, or more for a harmless clean feeling high ❤
It is unfortunately anecdotal, but benzos did next to nothing for my crippling panic disorder, neither did Lexapro or Zoloft, but 15mg of CBD took me from nightly panic attacks that made me stay up an extra hour to the whole night weighing if I should call 911 for my obvious heart attack I was having, to having a panic attack maybe once a month and having such a hold on it that I have not called 911 since I started taking it 2 years ago. (The prior two years saw me calling and going to the hospital about 3-4 times) I was skeptical that it would help because nothing else did, but it changed my life. And it helped my social anxiety too without me realizing. Someone else had to tell me.

This is well timed for me, thanks Soph - I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromaygia for which I'm on Sulphasalazine (which is meant to help lower flare ups, plus heavy pain killers (Fentanyl patches and Pregabalin). Because of my history of abusing opiates for many years (mainly heroin plus amphetamines, LSD, crack etc etc!) the effect of pain killers isn't as good as it could/should be because of the changes long term drug abuse made to my brain chemistry, so I'm been thinking of either cbd or starting smoking weed again as I've heard they can benefit, although that is only anecdotal as I haven't seen any scientific trials regarding their usefulness. I'm hesitant tho because I'm 17 years clean and wary of both the social stigma with my recovery friends and becoming involved again with the drug scene and risking maintaining my recovery, however on the periphery I would be... So thank you again, you have given me food for thought - and great ad btw! (",)
Thanks for sharing Fred - the dynamic of CBD/THC based treatments for people who have a history of intense drug use is such an interesting situation I didn’t even consider. I’m really glad you found the video interesting, or at least enough to provide food for thought! That’s what I’m here for ☺️
Hey friend I have fibromyalgia and other stuff as well. I'm so proud of you for doing that. Are you able to take duloxadine? I decided to stay away from pregablin in the end but I know everyone is diff. I really do recommend CBD and thc. May e start with CBD and see how you feel. It is possible to get flower as well of CBD. I only take that or weed nd my duloxadine I rarely reach for my high strength stuff when Im on. I think do what you feel is helpful to your healing I know some people who find CBD doesn't work for them or THC makes them feel worse due to making them anxious. Good luck!
2:57 - CBD as antagonist of CB2 increases Epoxides and fatty acid binding proteins that regulate endocannabinoid production like MAGL/ DAGL/ CYP450 and TRPV1 . with enough CBD metabolism going on ( over 600mg servings) CBD can weakly back cross talk ( lipid rafts) to cb1 effecting ions there somewhat albeit very weakly . when using THC to activate cb1 , cb2 eventually gets activated too to recycle any free radical damages ( autophogy)
I'm in a state that recently legalized Cannabis. Prior to that they did allow stuff like HHC and THCP, anything from hemp origins. Since I knew the law was coming down the pipe I started doing lots of research. This research was everything from YT videos all the way to government scientific studies with language I could barely understand. After everything I've seen and heard, and the positives I've experienced myself with CBD, I'm going to say people's fears are SO overblown! Alcohol is far more dangerous in my book.
Great summary on a rather complex topic! I will say that I don't agree that studying it is difficult due to it being illegal and therefore difficult to get permissions for. For clinical trials, maybe. In my experience, research labs don't have much issue getting permission to use Class A drugs, but those are often to study the issues with those drugs. I think the bigger barrier is actually the stigma and the lack of funding The first is just working with a drug that is used recreationally has a stigma attached to it that most scientist like to avoid. The second is scientists research follows funding. There just hasn't been funding for this type of work, likely tied up in that stigma again, the complexities of what drug/plant line to actually study like you mentioned, and the opinion of cannabis in the general public and legislation.
7:34 - there are over 25 cannabinoid drugs on the market and growing daily ... fatty acid binding protein drugs ( Epoxides) are more so than the cannabinoid drugs but all based on endocannabinoid system methodology
6:17 - 570 total constituent parts / 150 of those are the acidic form cannabinoids like THC-a and CBD-a . about 60 out of those 150 are primary cannabinoids and the rest minor forms of those metabolites ... and too, each of those carbon active /acidic form phytocannabinoids have a decarboxylated counterpart ( THC-a = THC) . on the living plant they are carbon active and once decarbed via oxygen or heat they become carbon neutral . we have only really researched around 111 or 12 of them so far
Love this video! I learned a lot, so much great science that I didn't know before. "Cheers Mr. Nixon" really got me, knowing at least a good portion of his role in the "war on drugs." I hope we can keep chipping away at prohibition.
Since I live in a country where cannabis is very illegal, i have only done selfstudys during vacations in places with a more relaxed attitude. I definitely found benefits on my migraine and I found an Indica that made me sleep like a baby. I really don't like to get high ( I rarely even drink alcohol), but I can live with that side-effect, so in Amsterdam I tried my best to buy the stuff that wasn't crazy-high in THC but about 50/50 THC/CBD and it seemed to work best for me. I didn't need any of my antiinflammatory meds, even though I walked and was more physically active then at home, and that usually makes it worse, so my conclution is: more studys are needed, both by me, and by scientists. I would very much like to find a strain that works and gives very little high, and then be able to grow it myself in small quantitys, if that is by decriminalizing or legalizing or a medical licence, it doesnt really matter to me

You are a fountain of knowledge, Soph! This was super informative as always! My anecdotal evidence: 1. Runner's high: no such thing. Unless "high" is short for "desire to jump from a high cliff". 2. CBD: tastes/smells like weed. No effect beyond convincing older/gullible acquaintances that I'm doing drugs now. 3. THC: mildly relaxing, like a glass of wine. Leaves a dryness and shit taste lingering in my mouth for a couple days. I'll just stick to booze.
This was a great video and very informative! I remember hearing about a recent (3 months ago) triple blind study for pain where the cannabis group reported the same relief as the placebo group. From what I've read, cannabis doesn't have any pain relieving properties on its own, but people experience relief because they simply quit paying attention to the pain they're experiencing much like the "high" you get from oxycodone will essentially make you feel good and not focus on your pain quite as much (though oxycodone actually does work on the CNS to reduce pain while cannabis does not).
You review clothing. And cosmetics made in labor shops. You have no place to talk about cannabis. The "CBD" everyone uses is derived from hemp. Unless you are talking about isolate. It does matter where it came from. You never touched on that.
I created my own hybrid strain for my PTSD Higher in cbd. For pain and helping with anxiety. I have PTSD and it does help. I'm being triggered on a daily basis and think of suicide everyday. And for thousands of other uses.

Great detail & information explained in relevant contexts! Reckon I'll keep following your channel! 🙂
I have never seen that Lady Gaga clip.

I own a virtual dispensary and we are pleased with the combination of CBD and THC. This was a good video.
Thank you so much for calling it Cannabis plant and not marijuana ... so amny people confused about that you are way many steps ahead already
She's just copied everything from someone else's video
C21H3O2 is not "C twenty-one H thirty O two" . You are missing a zero after the H
I had no idea it was so cheap to sgn up, and there are so many dinosaur documentaries!
Can someone tell me will cbd give me some feeling like thc or even more better benefits
You gotta change the THUMBNAIL, you're much cuter than that!
I like that you pointed out the Nebula special in a way that I realised when to switch from UA-cam
Great info and brilliantly entertaining, you little smarty pants 😊
You're such a beauty.

You’re so beautiful 😍
CBD oil and THC is good for me!
"Let's get down to cannibisness"🤣
Sorry Soph, I don't press the bell as I don't want hundreds of notifications from the 300+ channels I subscribe to. I am subscribed and I get all your videos in my subscription feed as they come out.
Not tried CBD for my chronic pain yet.
That’s alright Maxx! Definitely fair, an endless stream of notifications would make UA-cam too stressful 😅
14:20 mad science !
Thanks for the fun and informative video!
Great Video Soph :)
I have the bell pressed... :( I am not no one...
You certainly aren’t! 😊 I appreciate it!

But how much *does* the ketamine cost, Soph?
More than $14.79 that’s for sure hahah
What value! No, wait, is that value? Hmmm, I guess I'll have to watch the Nebula video about ketamine to find out...
omg ur so pretty, i love how your hair is parted too it honestly works
also this video was super informative and interesting, so glad i subscribeddd
You are a fountain of knowledge, Soph! This was super informative as always!
My anecdotal evidence:
Do you realize how much you are waving your hands around in the air the entire time that you are talking
Yes x
Thank you for proving you have never watched any of my videos including this one x
I created my own hybrid strain for my PTSD Higher in cbd. For pain and helping with anxiety. I have PTSD and it does help. I'm being triggered on a daily basis and think of suicide everyday. But the VA wants to put me and most veterans. Even you on opioids and get you addicted too. Just keep collecting the money on the investments on pharmaceuticals and the stock market. And for thousands of other uses.
