    I enjoyed this. People need to understand that nonrepresentational art is not about what it depicts but rather what it evokes in the viewer based on what they bring to the viewing experience. It is also important to understand that nonrepresentational art does indeed have interesting motivations behind it.

      The word "art" has been overused and over sensationalized.

    I am glad I am lucky enough to love Cy Twomblys work. Anyone who thinks this could easily be done try it.. Its magic and the composition and his line comes together like poetry. Some things cant be explained hence the reason people dont get him. Lucky we are all different. As it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing

    So appropriate he was drawn to Mallarme.
    Having read many translations of the Iliad I never felt the rawness and reduction, that Twombly’s paintings ultimately conveyed, could be found in Pope’s translation. I always felt something more lyrical in that text.

    Cy and Rauschenberg were in a relationship , don't be ignorant by saying they were close. They were more than friends . And growing up and being a gay man in those Times and the difficulties that may have had on ones life would have influenced his art too I'm sure .

    abstract art like this always has comments about how crude it is and about how it requires no skill. remember not every artists life goal is to show off technical art techniques. Even art like this does require thought. If anything it's these two presenters that take away from the art. Reading into art this much is painful to watch. "This means this, that means that" just let it be fucking hell. Surely the guy would have wrote a book if he wanted his art to be analyses this much. Art is a visual record that is open to interpretation, not a history lesson

    • @evolution0fself
      @evolution0fself 9 років тому +1

      i must have been in the mood for ranting that day jeez pahah. i still think that people don't have to analyse abstract art so closely. even if Twombly intended parts of his work to suggest different things I personally think it's down to the individual to figure that out for themselves, especially when the work is so blatantly abstract. i dunno, maybe it makes art collectors feel better if they're able to have a total grasp on an artwork but at the end of the day Twombly himself is the only person who could explain the decisions he made in a painting and even if he was alive to do so I still don't think that sort of an approach achieves much. a piece of art can express different things to different people. Once you've been told what a piece is and what a piece isn't it's like you don't have to think for yourself anymore. this is just what I think anyway

    • @paulawhite9922
      @paulawhite9922 6 років тому +1

      I like the comment: "Reading this much into art is painful." I agree. I've come to the conclusion that the art world is huge, diverse, and complex. Curators, collectors, historians, gallery owners, critics--they are all a part of the art world, and I accept that. Let the artist make art, and let all those people who also make up the art world do what they want as well.

      @@evolution0fself I appreciated your rant fwiw. I do think you have to look at Cy within the historical context that he painted which does make him innovative because there was so much mental & emotional Expression and Abstraction in his works on paper, and this was a huge risk he took at the time. Of course his sculpture work is completely different. I see him as an explorative artist, willing to break the rules and let go with it all. For that I'm quite inspired. The next time I hate the roses I paint, I'll think of Cy and his roses and how perfection isn't as necessary as expressiveness, and a willingness to accept what you create.

What do you think of the use of electronic elements in music? Were you a fan of Lil Wayne during the previous decade? What do you think of Drain Gang? Do you think music has to be intelligent to be enjoyable? It probably depends on even more stuff that I’m leaving out

    Abstract art is not that complicated to understand because it never really has a meaning behind it. Many of abstract artists are just bored of doing traditional art and decided to venture into a new territories. So to tell an actual bored artist or a hack can be simply comparing their early works to later ones. Quite a few abstract artists have really impressive early works before they start spreading inks onto canvas. Try to look up Twombly's very early works and you can draw your own conclusion.

    I think Cy Twombly studied art enough to figure out it's all complete bullshit and people will buy anything if you can tell them some believable story about your work and have it come from people they respect for whatever reason. So he just spent time making literally the worst things he could make and then told people that he had some crazy artistic process and was inspired by whatever nonsense came to his head and people respected him so they bought into it and now you can sell his scribbles and doodles for millions.
