Yonah Ncube (94), who was a personal driver to the late nationalist, Vice President Joshua Nkomo, survived a gunshot by a Fifth brigade soldier at Nkomo’s home in Pelandaba Suburb in 1983.
Ncube questions what his fate would have been had he died that day.

It is extremely painful to know what ubaba uNcube went through and what he is still going through even today.His case is one of the many untold painful stories that happened in the Matebeleland in the 1980s.There are many other cases of torture and massacres that are not known.I hope all victims can come forward and disclose.I think as a people we still have a long way to go especially with the kind of government we have and denialism thereof by the perpetrators of these henious crimes.The arrogance that is being displayed by perpetrators is shocking and unbelievable!

There is a need for a just, unpartisan commission that doesn't hide facts and truths THis will have observers from international jurors.

I very well remember the date when it all started. I was a form one student at Sizane High in Pelandaba. We had gone to school to do extra lessons. Mr Ncube is very right on how it happened. I was caught by Gukurahundi at the grounds near Nkomo s house after we head the commanding female voice from a plane ordering every one to stay at home. I was rushing from school to my home at Mpopoma using a road that goes from Sizane past Grounds near Nkomo s house. I had the worst day in my life in those grounds.one soldier told the other to shoot me .and the itherone told them that I was a school child and they should let me go. But nasty things happened there after. I am still haunted by the traumers of 1983 .
