  • The Shizuoka-Shimizu Line (静岡清水線 Shizuoka-Shimizu-sen) is a railway line in Shizuoka Prefecture, between Shin-Shizuoka in Aoi Ward and Shin-Shimizu in Shimizu Ward, all within the city of Shizuoka. This is the only line operated by the private railway operator Shizuoka Railway (Shizutetsu).
The line has a fairly frequent service, with local services operating every 5-6 minutes during rush hours, and every 6-8 minutes during the daytime and at weekends, linking Shin-Shizuoka and Shin-Shimizu in 22 minutes. In addition, express services run in the mornings every 12 minutes, linking the two stations in 16-18 minutes.
All the train sets are formed of two cars, and are driver-only operated.
Chibi Maruko-chan (Japanese: ちびまる子ちゃん) is a shōjo manga series written and illustrated by Momoko Sakura. The series depicts the simple, everyday life of Momoko Sakura, a young girl everyone calls Maruko, and her family in suburban Japan in the year 1974. Maruko is a troublemaker, every episode recounts an Maruko’s trouble and how she and her friends succeed in solve the situation. The series is set in the former of Irie District (入江町), Shimizu, now part of Shizuoka City, birthplace of its author.
The first story under the title "Chibi Maruko-chan" was published in the August 1986 edition of the shōjo manga magazine Ribon. Other semi-autobiographical stories by the author had appeared in Ribon and Ribon Original in 1984 and 1985, and were included in the first "Chibi Maruko-chan" tankōbon in 1987. The author first began writing and submitting strips in her final year of senior high school, although Shueisha (the publisher of Ribon and Ribon Original) did not decide to run them until over a year later. The author's intent was to write "essays in manga form"; many stories are inspired by incidents from her own life, and some characters are based on her family and friends. The nostalgic, honest and thoughtful tone of the strip led to its becoming popular among a wider audience.
Chibi Maruko-chan was adapted into an anime television series by Nippon Animation, which originally aired on Fuji Television and affiliated tv stations from January 7, 1990 to September 27, 1992. It has also spawned numerous games, animated films and merchandising, as well as a second TV series running from 1995 to the present. Maruko's style and themes are sometimes compared to the classic comic Sazae-san. In 1989, the manga tied to receive the Kodansha Manga Award for shōjo.As of 2006, the collected volumes of the manga had sold more than 31 million copies in Japan, making it the fifth best-selling shōjo manga ever.

With all those stops it is more a streetcar than a train, ("This is the only line operated by the private railway operator Shizuoka Railway (Shizutetsu)"). It's amazing that it is the only line run by "Shizutetsu" and has enough riders to make it pay to operate.Oh, by the way, it was an enjoyable video, thanks. I love the variety of trains and streetcars in Japon, thanks for doing this whoever you are.

Well, but that's the reason, the people use this train: It has many stops, so they don't have to walk a long distance. Meanwhile between the station the JR Central has only 3 stops - so when you want to get to your place, you need to take THIS train.

Oh, I actually understand the reason for the train. It is the economics that I find questionable. The tremendous costs involved to be able to afford to keep the trains daily schedule going. Maintainance of tracks, cars, signal systems, stations, all personal (engineers, conductors (if any) station workers, and office workers. These costs must be covered before the train leaves the train yard. All this requires a lot of daily passengers and perhaps high ticket costs.I am looking at as many Japanese train videos as possible and see the same monetary daily use money thing and compared to here (US of A Chicago area) they would shut down the system here. Thanks for taking the time to answer my query, much appreciated.I would love to live there, since the way the systems run reminds me of our systems back 60+ years ago when we had a tremendous go anywhere you wish for 10 cents train system.Well, I'm off to see more videos have a good day.Ray Z.......

Yes, in the USA the companies would should many lines down - because they are idiots. The benefits of a train based public transport system, especially when it's as intact as in Japan, are much greater than the costs for the lines. It's called "network benefits": Because the small lines are spread all over Japan, many japanese prefer to use the train instead of the car. And because the japanese know, that there will be local lines at their destination, they will use them. At least in Europe we understood that early enough, in the 1990s and 2000s, so that nowadays we don't shut down any more lines, but rebuild old ones. In the USA this opportunity has already passed away.

The common name is Shizutetsu, that can be translated as "electric rail Shizu". So yes, are basically streetcars, but with rail control and governance, and used only in limited area to ensure connection with bigger railroads. The Shizutetsu, as such, is using a simplified ATP, and a 600V alimentation.

The MBTA trains stations should have fences on the flatforms like in Japan, the yellow lines won't do any good. This is a good idea so people don't fell on the tracks when they are half sleepily. It happened sometime and the MBTA can't think a better idea!
