That opening 20 - 25 seconds played behind the shot of Washington DC and then Scully at the bar perfectly encapsulates how I feel on a Summer's day when I have left work and head for a walk through my local park.....just perfect.
The 1st season is a masterpiece in story telling for me....It's a superior drama series that has horror/scifi/weird science overtones...majestic...From season 2 though there was a shift in the tone and it became a high functioning scifi / horror series which was subtly structurally different....still a terrific drama series but different...and it never got back to the special season 1 story space.....That 1st season should be held up as the zenith of what tv can do.....

My favourite episode of The X Files by far. The best score Mark Snow composed for the show. It not only acts as background atmosphere but is so perfect it is like it is another unseen character.
MAn this first season had a very unique sound to it, even compared to the rest of the series. Don't get me wrong, the rest of Mark Snow's scores on the later seasons are great, but the first season (and, well, second season too) had a very haunting sound to it. Does it have a 90's feel? Yeah, but it's pretty amazing to hear this semi-isolated. It really adds to the sadness and darkness this first season had.
@@scorpionkobra That's actually true. There IS a change between the series in terms of not only the production but also in the music. I noticed that too the last time I went through the series. Not really a bad change, I actually rather liked season 9 (except for a loose end or two that felt suddenly dropped, if you've seen it before I'm sure you may know what I mean, if you haven't I'm sure you'll get to it eventually), but you can hear like you said, an evolution. I really loved the music from the series as a whole, but I especially loved the first three seasons music.
@@callawolf531 I didnt mention only Theme music but the all soundtracks of series. If you are talking about theme music then Season 1-2 and Season 3-7 theme is equal to me.But Season 9 theme is kinda disappointing
That first season....oh boy...screened sept94 to april95 on bbc2.....just bloody brilliant from beginning to end. Never ever found anything like and the music is unparalleled....the best music to watch clouds as well..
@@scorpionkobra I'm talking about the music as a whole, not just the theme music. The music that's played DURING the episodes, not just the theme song that book ends the episodes. You can hear how the music during the actual meat of episodes is a bit different as the seasons go on
That last section...from the Buddahas house/Scully typing her report/the mtg on the infield.....You can feel in the music the warmth of a Summer day...the buoyancy of the clouds...

You can feel the evolution between season 1 and season 9. Im watching Season 9 now and i can clearly see the change of music,fashion and atmosphere.

If I had to guess it may be the cue from the end of the episode where Deep Throat talks to Mulder at the running track.
