The daemon's daughters started the attacks with the help of Rhaenyra's sons. Aemond only defended himself.
Why you cheering for Aemond to get knifed? Dude didn't do anything wrong, he was just mean about it which makes sense considering that he was bullied for not having a dragon. But Baela didn't have a right to Vhagar, th dragons are not hereditary, and even if they were Aemond has a claim to Vhagar aswell since that was his grandpas dragon. Aemond just went and bonded with Vhagar which means they chose each other, so he did it fair and square. And he didn't attack anyone either, he just returned and got jumped by 4 kids screaming at him even though he didn't do anything wrong, they were literally just salty. Baela even had a week or more to bond with Vhagar before Aemond even got there, she didn't take the opportunity and he did, props to him.
And like I said, he didn't attack them, he was just snarky. They jumped him and then pulled a knife on him after he told the truth, Jace and Luke are bastards, that was no lie. Pulling a knife on him for that is crazy, it's even more pathetic that he still lost the 1v1 when he had a knife and Aemond only had a rock. Jace full on tried to kill Aemond.
In other words, Aemond didn't do anything wrong and he didn't say a single lie. Maybe the problem isn't with Aemond here? Maybe the problem is with Rhaenyra teaching her children to be violently opposed to the truth?
Aemond had the right to beat all their asses.

Vhagar is female. A she-dragon. Also, when Christin Cole said “ as your protector” he wasn’t going to obey Alicent’s order. It was his reminder that he’s her bodyguard, not an executioner

Helena did predict Aemond losing an eye on last week's episode, she said "he'll have to close an eye", so we got to pay attention to what Helena says
If you know her story, she can't predict what will happen to her own children. The greater foreshadowing happened in Ep 4 about Rhaenyra's death.

And then the scene cuts to fire being blown, foreshadowing that Rhaenyra will die by fire/dragonfire(maybe). I caught it the 2nd time I watched the episode.

@@KingCanute777 I've never read the books before, I don't even know much of the lore aside from watching GoT. I just noticed that in the episode and figured thats what they might be foreshadowing.
Rob is missing that Aegon got blamed by Aemond so they wouldn't tip Viserys off to Allicent being the one that told both of them they're more in line for the throne than Rhaenyrs's bastard children. That's why Aegon gave a confused "Me?" knowing it was Allicent, then he quickly realized in the time it took the king to get to him *why* he was blamed instead of his mother. So when Aegon says "we just know, we all do, just look at them" it's not that he just thinks that and is saying it to be that dude, he's trying to avoid getting his mother in trouble.
Yeah, the brother's synchronization and quick thinking was amazing, and Aegon's response was brilliant, he not only says the obvious, because everyone knows that Rhaenyra kids are bastard, they just don't admit it, but his answer also turns the tables, because he embarrasses Rhaenyra and make everyone turn their eyes in embarrassment for her, you can see in her face. Rhaenyra tried to frame Alicent and have her executed, but the brothers turned the table.
It's an incredible scene, because if they hadn't read the room, think fast and given the right answer, they were going to have their mother executed or one of them punished. Aegon and Aemond were amazing in how they acted.
And Aemond's answer at the end was the final blow, the people where divided and fighting among themselves, forgetting the reason why all that was happening: The fact that Aemond had conquered the most powerful dragon in the kingdom, and when he brings it to light again, everyone looked scared, Rhaenyra herself is in shock, because everyone there realized the military power that Alicent and her lineage have in their hands, putting everyone in submission.
Which was also the most brilliant thing he could have said because HE DIDN'T LIE. Everyone mumbles that the kids are bastards at court

Even thought I am Team Black to the fullest, I must admit I felt terrible for Aegon in this episode. He's literally getting slapped up and blamed for Aemomd losing an eye like it wasn't Crispin's job to watch them, not to mention he should have been in bed at the time. Then his prick of a brother blames him for starting the bastard rumors when everyone knows it's Alicent. Now to not cause any more drama, he just has to pretend he heard it thur the grapevine and deal with his father's wrath. Not to mention his mom is forcing him to marry his sister (a girl he doesn't even like). It's clear nobody on either side of his family really respects this kid and it's kinda sad.

Rhaenyra is really in a no-win situation. She’s married to a man who doesn’t want her, yet she’s responsible for producing heirs to strengthen her claim, as her father said to her when he first told her to marry. So what is she to do? She tried with Laenor, unfortunately to no avail. Either she has her brood of brown-haired children or she has no children, and either way, the court will look at it as her fault.
Exactly! It annoys me when people say she’s at fault for having kids with someone else when in reality she had no choice! They both tried but it didn’t work like what else is she supposed to do 💀
Rheanyra had her chance to pick her own husband, she might've even gotten away with picking Daemon as her consort. She only has herself to blame for being in the situation she's in.
@@karlac3340 But she chose to marry Laenor. You’re acting like she was forced to. In the beginning her father gave her the freedom to choose and then she decided to marry Laenor in exchange of getting Otto fired.
She put herself in that position.
@@karlac3340 The King gave her 3 and a half years to choose a husband and have legitimate heirs. Alicent respected her claim during that time and did not push for Aegon. That doesn't happen until Rheanyra makes out with Daemon in the middle of a whole house with they hair out, which forced the Kings hand in having her marry Leaynor, It also caused Hightower to be dismissed in which Alicent was taking Rheanyra's side. And even at the wedding she coaxed Daemon to kill people and kidnap her. Rheanyra has been doing whatever the fuck she wants and none of what she needs to do and is at point where she is just reaping the consequences of her own actions.
And to make her situation better, she could’ve at LEAST found another blonde haired mf to make it look like it was Laenors 😭
Viserys aged like spoiled milk in regards to looks but his character gets better and better each episode. There was no way to please the entire room during the argument but where as Robert allowed Cercei to have Sansa's wolf killed, Viserys didn't budge despite all his wife's demands.
@@peach5438 He's kinda like Aenys I in the show, like he wants everyone to get along and never does what needs to be done in these types of cases (and I mean in general, everytime Daemon, Rhaenyra or Allicent made something fuck up, he just tried to put it aside and pretend it didn't happen)

Let's be real, the name thing is not about love for his grandchildren, Corlys just wants that legacy, he has been trying from the start by trying to have his 12 year old daughter marry the king. Rhaenys is right, she never wanted to get her children involved in this mess but he just can't let this go.

Just because he wants his legacy attached to the throne don’t mean he don’t love the kids lol it can be both and it definitely looks like he cares for the kids talking to jace and shielding them in the scene when Alicent came for his eye.

I guess people tend to ignore it cause Corlys and Rhaenys always came off as the cool couple. It's like with Daemon. In the last ep i saw many calling him a great dad, cause he stood with the boys after the fight, but not once he went to his own injured and sad daughters. But he is "cool and entertaining" (though personally i got a bit tired of him), so many only focus on the few positive traits he has.
Rhaenyra Targeryan is a very supportive wife. She supported her gay husband and allowed him to be with his lovers, get drunk, encourage him to be with them and even faked his death so he can live a happy gay life with Ser Carl. Thats how allies behave 🙏🏻

Aemond didn't steal Vhagar, dragons are not hereditary. You must claim it and the dragon ultimately decides whether you are worthy or not.

@@aellahnjung Vhagar did NOT belong to anyone so therefore she can't be stolen. Once Laena died, the dragon is free to choose who to accept. I dont get what is so hard to comprehend about that. The fact the dragon was ridden by the mother is irrelevant. Vhagar did not go to one of Aegon's sons or grandsons or other direct descendants but move from Targaryen to Velaryon. I dont hear any complaining about that.

About Daemon laughing at the funeral, I believe it is that Vaemond was making a veiled comment about Rhaeynra's children being bastards during the farewell speech he gave for Laena, while using their kids and Laena's dead body in the process to do so. Daemon per usual caught on and the laugh was probably at the absurdity of it all. Like here is my wife being put to rest and these people are still going on about the politics.
Not EVERYTHING he does is about Rhaenyra. That will make him too one-dimensional.
The guy had a whole 10 years life away from all this bullshit and the moment he is back to bury his wife, he is thrown back again into the politics at his own wife's funeral. It was just absurd and it made him laugh.

This happens alot with gay people in real life. They legally adopt and the adopted kids have the last name of the parent. Corlys knows his son's nature and that he won't have any biological kids and he accepts that. Corlys loves his family 👍

You guys really missed the point of that scene with Corlys and Rhaenys. They were trying to show that Corlys cares more about his legacy than his own family. Which is why he said 'History doesn't remember blood, it remembers names'. They spent good amount of screen time and even directly saying his greed for power and fame trumps his love for his own family. Rhaenys even said he was doing this for himself. You guys think he would pick Rhaenyra's children that even Laenor abandoned so he could go live with Qarl over his own granddaughters for love? Only for power.

I found the show did really well at showing how Corlys just wants that legacy, Rhaenys called him out for it again and again. Did people forget how much he pushed for 12 year old Laena to become Viserys second wife? Rhaenys has been over the crown thing for ages, while he is obsessed with it.

Rhaenyras sons are called Jaecerys (oldest, shortly called Jace), Lucerys (the one who got his nose broken, shortly called Luke) and Joffrey, the youngest.
Since they are not strictly following the book, I think Jace is Cole's son. She never drank the tea.

@@a.a677 Actually it does. The character is ten years old in episode 6, and the previous episode was set OVER ten years ago. Meaning the timeline matches for both of them.
Rhaenyra was a great ally for Laenor. She basically gave him a way to live in freedom and happiness with his partner.
That's assuming she gave him a choice to begin with...

while yes vhagar was a gain for alicent, rhaenyra also gain a great military asset in the the form of daemon, vhagar is the largest dragon while daemon is the greatest warrior and dragon rider, you match aemond/vhagar vs daemon/caraxes, each side gained a huge asset during this episode.
Criston Cole is better than Daemon in 1 v 1s. Unfortunately in the show he hasn't been able to showcase it.

Rhaenyra's kids (with Harwin, but legally with Laenor): Jacerys and Lucarys. Jace is her heir; Luke is in line for Corlys's seat at Driftmark. She also has baby Joffrey.
Daemon's kids (with Laena): Baela and Rhaena. Rhaena is the one without a dragon. Baela threw hands for her sis and also took Jace's hand at the funeral, presumably because she knows the truth of his parentage, so she knows they both lost a parent.
Everyone was talking about this episode being dark but I saw everything. This may have been the best episode of the season so far. It was W I L D

Rhaeynra was used as a pawn by Otto to spite daemon & prevent daemon from being heir; Otto is the one who suggested that Viserys name Rhaeynra his heir. Viserys didn’t do HIS job, which is the start of all these issues. Rhaeynra did what Viserys should’ve done, married a velaryon. Rhaeynra had to produce heirs but her husband does not like women & couldn’t do his duty. Her & laenor tried, so they weren’t that dismissive of the law & their duty.
Why would Rhaeynra cop to her kids being bastards and sign her & their death certificates? Why would Viserys admit/confirm that Rhaeynra’s kids are bastards, and bring about their death? Rhaeynra & all the 3 boys would be put to death; if I’m Rhaeynra I’m standing 10 toes down. Period.
Alicent hates that the king turns a blind eye to rhaenyra’s bastard kids, but he gave her the same grace this episode; she’s been committing treason by spreading the unconfirmed info about Rhaenyra’s kids. She also cut the heir to the thrown. Alicent talks about how rhaenyra dismisses the law, but so does she. Did Alicent report her dad for treason; Otto was trying to get Alicent to convince the king to unname rhaenyra & name aegon as heir, did she report that criston betrayed his vows, has she reported that Larys strong murdered his dad & brother? No, bc it benefits her. Alicent is not some innocent bystander, especially after this episode.
And if I’m rhaenyra, IDGAF about alicents kids eye; for YEARS you’ve been trying to get info confirmed that would be the cause of my death & the death of my kids. Girl f!ck you. For YEARS you have been stirring the pot & throwing stones, & I’ve let it rock. Now? It’s game on. Oh and also, if I’m Rhaeynra, Alicent, you were secretly meeting with my DAD & allowed me to be blindsided by y’all’s marriage announcement! Aemond being able to fight the way he does is because of how Criston Cole’s bitch ass trained him and Aegon. He spent more time with them than Rhaenyra’s kids that’s why Aemond prevailed.
And Criston has good reason to side with the Queen. She never flaked on him like rhaenyra did. Yes, he should’ve been wise enough to know the princess would never leave with him, but she broke his heart. A man honest to himself would place his loyalty elsewhere

Rhaenyra isn't exactly the greatest person ever but I still would support her over the Greens. Aegon himself doesn't seem like that bad of a guy but he also doesn't seem like that responsible of a person. And giving more power to Otto and Alicent seems like a mistake.
Daemon as king consort would be an absolute disaster though. Rhaenyra made a deal with the devil.

Rhaenyra is not a bad person. She never wanted beef with alicent, she wanted to be her friend even after alicent married her father but alicent was jealous that rhaeynra was living her best life while she was getting piped by some old king
I don’t why some people don’t understands Alicent it not about sex she mad that Rhaenyra is being a spoiled brat doing whatever she wants and she gets away with the things that she does cuz she the king daughter if Rhaenyra what’s to do whatever then she has no right to the Thorne and her kids but she wants her kid to be king and alicent doesn’t like that because what was the point of all her hard work and being with the king a waste of time if alicent kids well not be king 👑 .

Rhaenyra literally called for Aemond, the kid who just lost an eye, to be "sharply questioned" which is a euphemism for torture. Rhaenyra is an abhorrent person.
It's misleading to suggest that the feud between Alicent and Rhaenyra is due to jealousy. Alicent only turned against Rhaenyra when she realized that she was manipulative and untrustworthy, and realized that her father's claim - that her children were in danger from Rhaenyra's supporters - was likely accurate. There's the added issue that her children are obviously bastards which is a huge problem in the context of Westerosi society.
People need to understand that no one "owns" a dragon. They are free, they get bonded with a rider and stay with that person but they are not owned by anyone.
Guys.... Daemon laughed to take the attention away from Rhaenyra's kids. In Laena's uncle's speech he was implying the "blood was thin".....meaning the kids were bastards. So that was Daemon deflecting any unwanted attention away from Rhae.
Alicent demanding an eye for an eye because of what happened to her kid is something I could picture many parents in an medieval setting doing in a similar situation if their kid lost an eye. It would likely be normal protocol in these situations. We saw eye for an eye justice in ep. 1 when Daemon gave justice to criminals. They only reasons the eye wasn't taken in response was 1) Viserys is kinder than the average lord or king in this world, and 2) he's not going to take the eye of his grandkid. In modern times, we always see parents act irrational when something happens to their kid. A medieval environment would amplify that because of the laws in place

If both sides are bad, people will choose the lesser of two evils. Good thing about future seasons is they'll have some genuinely good people

also to me, alicent def cares about her son but the issue in that scene which everyone seems to forget is that alicent has been paranoid for 10 years after what otto told her and has been trying to ruin rhaenyra to prevent her own lines doom, in alicent's mind it's kill or be killed. which is why while everyone else sees this as an accident between kids with pent up anger, alicent sees it as the first evidence that otto was right, that rhaenyra is trying to kill her children bc they're a threat to the throne, which is why she's hysterical, not even bc her son got hurt bc she percieves it as just the beginning of rhaenyra's exploits, and viserys out of love for rhae, does not punish her children, which to alicent is basically proof that rhaenyra will come for her children and no one will do anything about it unless she does, which is why she takes visery's knife and attacks RHAENYRA, not her children, not anyone else but rhae herself. now we all know rhaenyra has tried to do her duty, she has tried to smooth things out between her and alicent but to no avail, she has to defend herself and her children which unfortunately draws lines and starts a civil war...alicent has pushed a self fulfilling prophecy bc of her own paranoia and now we see the result. she's not "wrong" bc in her mind, her actions are justified, there's miscommunication, misunderstandings between both teams. alicent doesn't even know laenor is gay which is why she thinks rhaenyra is whoring about and doesn't care about her duties meanwhile alicent was forced to bed a man twice her age at the age of 15, in her eyes yes rhaenyra is a spoiled sick whore, who gets everything she wants so her hatred turned frustration is understandable but that doesn't mean rhaenyra is exactly like that...i see many comments taking alicents side as if alicent is objectively right in anything she says, she is not...perception is what matters not truth, we know truth is diff but this war starts mainly bc of perception.

He remained married to Alicent after being made aware of Otto’s scheming, he refused to consolidate his legacy and remove substantial worry by refusing to marry Rhaenyra and Aegon II, placed Otto back in a position of power, and continuously caved to Alicent. Even Otto recognizes that with the line what can he do, in his conversation with Alicent. He’s not decisive enough and now, the players know.

So many fans seem to forget about the prophecy when discussing Rhaenyra's choice to have bastard children and why Viserys doesn't care. A great winter is coming that will destroy mankind unless a Targaryen from her line is leading. Viserys not seeing the white stag for Aegon confirms this the same way as Rhaenyra seeing it. Understanding the weight of her choices, she rejects Criston's proposal, marries Laenor, and when they can't have children, has bastard children. Her son's dark hair isn't helpful, but that can't be controlled. All Rhae and Viserys can do is stand their ground and try to keep the throne from ending up in the wrong hands. Her choices make sense when considering her top priority is saving Westeros.

Aemond didn’t do anything wrong by taking the dragon. Dragons don’t pass from parents to children and the dragon has to choose its rider. Vhagar was also technically his grandfather’s dragon before Laena claimed her - so if anything he brought the dragon back to his family.
Edit: while the timing sucks with the funeral, Aemond may have had only that chance to claim her. She was otherwise free and could have flown off anywhere - he doesn’t live in Driftmark and lives far away in King’s Landing.

This is the main reason why nobody in King's Landing and many of the scheming other houses wanted Stannis to become king in his era. Everyone recognized his rule to the thrown, and like Rhaenyra's position, they knew he had it by right. They knew Stannis would immediately have people killed or remove their hands for pulling dumb shit and EVERYONE within King's Landing where schemers. He was was wise (knowing when to listen and take advice), tough (knowing when to make the hard decisions), and a sense of justice (knew right from wrong). Every other king but Viserys's grandfather only had one quality, but not the other two needed. Joffrey was tough but lacked the other two. Tommen was kind, but like Visery's, too weak and easily manipulated. Robert was tough and cared about justice, but cared so little about the kingdom to ever hear advice. Tywin mentions the three things needed to be king to Tommen when it was his turn to be one. Every single time a king is put in position without the three qualities, war always breaks out for succession of that position. The scheming houses always try make sure they can get a king who doesn't have all three to make it easier for them to get their own kids as potential royalty later down the line. Visery's is wise enough to listen to advice and KNOWs what justice is, but too weak to ever pass it down. This is why everyone who he knows is wronging him gets to leave and come back to do it all over again.

Vhagar is the oldest dragon. Dragons have been mentioned as a very intelligent creatures in the show and since Vhagar is the oldest one, she knows that she can’t accept anyone who tries to ride her. That’s why she tested Aemond with that wild ride to prove that he worth it.
Even tho Rhaenyra kinda fucked up by having kids that were not by laenor, atleast the kids were loved by Laenor as if they were his. In the scene where alicent wanted to take the eye of Lucerys, you see Rhaenys holding and protecting the kids, those kids were accepted by their grandparents and loved.
Daemon and Rhaenyra didn't take an L for losing the dragon coz it wasn't theirs to lose. A dragon that has no rider is there to be claimed by anyone. And dude saying he team Aegon just coz he spoke the truth about the kids, when dude got drunk the whole episode. Come on now, surely it takes more than that to win your favor. Aemond really didn't do anything wrong for one dragons aren't hand down vehicles vhagar is the oldest and wisest dragon in all of westeros she chooses her rider as much if not more than the rider who chooses her hense why she tested him and in the fight the escalation of force was more than justified he only ever increased his aggressiveness in response to the threat they posed to him hense why he just shoved the first girl and only fought back when the big sister was able to actually hurt him and when he finally went for the rock it was because he was being jumped in a 4v1 situation and all of his attackers showed no signs of stopping even if they didn't mean or want to they definitely could've caused long term damage just because two of his attackers are women doesn't mean he's obligated to allow himself to harmed when he didnt even start it
I think his biggest mistake was calling them bastards to their faces which escalated everything. Really, he had no reason whatsoever to bring it up.

Both Alicent and Viscerys were forced in loveless marriages. Same with Daemon. What Rhaenyra is doing is being incredibly reckless but it's her fault for messing up her own courtship by coming home early. She's was given the choice to choose her own husband and wasted it.

Rhaenyra had her pick of the nobleman in Westeros. She was an idiot and treated the situation similar to how a fool would. She was entitled and ending up forcing Viserys' hand into arranging a marriage with Laenor. Rhaenyra's marriage problems are solely her fault.
Daemon WASN'T going to kill Laena. He asked if she would survive the C-section and when the doctor said no he shook his head. Daemon definitely isn't a great person, and he wasn't in love with Laena, but he wouldn't have had her cut open like Viserys had done to Aemma, whom he DID love.

In Aemonds defense and I see many people make this specific mistake. He didn't do anything wrong in this episode. Vhagar was indeed free to be claimed, but dragon has to chose his/her own rider. Its not like anybody can just claim them. So Vhagar made her own decision, she was not forced to serve Aemond. He offered himself to her and she saw something in him!
Now Aemond was indeed on a power trip after that flight true, but what he said about the Pig for the daughter to ride on was in direct reference to what both Aemonds brother Aegon AND Rhaenyras sons were all part of, which was that Pink Dread prank they pulled on Aemond earlier in the season! They all mocked him for being the only one without a dragon! So he called them back on it!
After the daughters assaulted Aemond (which from all the information that we got / saw), he was attacked for no significant reason! It is also fair to point out that he lashed out only AFTER he was attacked. The stone thing is of no importance as he was directly attacked by 4 opponents. In short the 2nd son of the King was attacked by his own family members! If the king was anybody aside for Vyserys, both the daughters and Rhaenyras sons would have been executed for treason!
Which points out exactly why Rhaenyra is the true cause of this struggle! She takes no responsibility and indirectly causes suffering of others including her own family.
Except what causes Jace to escalate the fight is Aemond calling them bastards, something Luke hasn’t figured out himself (yes it’s obvious, but you can’t say it out loud). He had no reason to bring it up when he had already won

I agree. If she chose not to she would be in a different predicament. People would think she was barren and that's definitely a bad situation for an heir to the throne. She'd be ridiculed and laughed at. Also people would question her being the heir in the first place if she cant further the family line.

Acting is so top tier on this show. Just a couple of weeks ago we were all wondering about the time jump and how the older Rhaenyra would be like. Emma D'arcy is so good. Maybe it's just me, but watching this episode, I'm not even thinking about it in terms of performance, I'm just watching Rhaenyra Targaryen. And the kids fight scene: the acting was great, everything was motivated and logical, how the fight played out, in terms of physical fighting, and the children's psychology, the real consequences ... masterfully done, The detail put into a fantasy show is amazing.
