The Speed master is definitely one of my grail watches! I'll probably be able to afford one, but every time I see one it makes my heart jump a little bit! The saphire sanwhich is probably a more practical choice, but this one is stunning as well!
I have the sapphire sandwich and also like the hesalite one. Mine is unbelievably accurate and incredibly comfortable. The bracelet flexes in a way that just makes it so comfortable. I’ve sold my other watches because they weren’t getting any wrist time since buying the Speedmaster. Such a great watch and I can’t recommend them enough.
I’ve had my Speedmaster for years and never knew about the Omega sign in the middle of the hesalite! Another thing, a colleague of mine insists that his automatic Speedmaster is a Moonwatch. I had to explain the part that gravity plays in the movement of the weight!
Looks absolutely stunning! Speedmaster Speedmaster Pro Hesalite cal. 1861 & the 70s Speedmaster 125th cal. 1041 are my favorite chronographs! Thanks for the Video!
I bought the 3861 Sapphire Sandwich last year and I love it. I actually like the caseback on the Hesalite more than the sapphire, but I am super picky about scratches and knew that a scratched crystal would bother me. I bought an additional OEM calfskin with deployant and I honestly like it better than the bracelet for most applications. I also plan on buying either the OEM sailcloth strap or a high end non-OEM one, which should be less expensive since I already have the deployant. I like how wearing this watch is like a piece of history and a reminder of what man is capable of when we try. I love the subdued, but iconic design. I like how understated it is and that people who don't know watches may have no idea what it is, yet they still might appreciate it as an attractive watch on its own merits. It's mad accurate and it's also a strap monster. There's very little I don't like about this watch. I don't like the extreme taper on the bracelet, and I'm not super crazy about the polished end links or that it doesn't have an extension. That's really about it. It's a fantastic watch and I'm glad I pulled the trigger on it. It won't ever leave my collection.
This is a very beautiful piece. 3861 is really beautiful and refined. Bracelet and case is a remake of the 1967 original moonwatch. So comfortable! Loving it
Sapphire Sandwich is great, but the Hesalite is sublime, and the brushing on the case and bracelet make a subtle, but luxurious, presentation. The lower price doesn’t hurt either! Great review!
yes im glad you pointed out the tapered angle like a wedge shape sloping outward acting as crown guard , i wasnt sure if i was only one seeing this. and the twisted lugs to. this is certainly a watch with legendary status but not just for its moon visit other watches have graced the moon tag and glycene also ventured north. the moon watch i dont think needed this anyway its a fine piece indeed . love it. long live the speedy black or indeed white.
As Jason Ferguson mentioned, no vertical clutch or column wheel. It's a cam-actuated chronograph with a horizontal clutch. For the former on a Speedy, you'd need to acquire the 321 movement at a substantially more expensive price. PS - Hesalite all the way for me!
good video . I am contemplating purchasing a speedmaster , I would probably go with the Safire crystal . you make a strong argument for the hesalite . and just looked at the '57 blue in person , that too is a beauty. be safe . ~. JDS/CT
Though I gravitate more to Seamasters, there is no denying this is a beautiful and iconic piece. I like that the new clasp does not have any writing on it, just the logo.
I think the word is refinerd? Hehehe it's just beautiful. I ordered mine without having seen 1 in the flesh, the boutique also didn't have any stock left for display. When it arrived I truly was surprised that it felt and looked so refined. It was love at first sight. 😁
I’ve got the superseded model, and I thought it wore about what it’s dimensions indicated, though that could be down to the older bracelet. I’m trying to decide if I should invest in acquiring the newer one for mine, looks a lot better.
I have this watch and the case do wear like a 42mm but the thickness is more like a 12mm on the wrist…that side profile design is just so good and doesnt look thick.
Actually agree with the thickness looking slim.. but it wears like a 40mm for me. Bec the lugs are shorter than a sub 16610. My sub weara bigger than this speedmaster 42.
Firstly a very nice review 👌 secondly i have the same watch but i chose the naylon strap (personal preference). What i really like is what you stated the legibility. No matter if it is 12h and the sun is shining, if it is almost night with no luminescence you will see the time. If you are shortsighted and have forgotten you glasses you will see the time 😂 The stopwatch is also easy to read. Because i work in a highly magnetic environment the 1.5 Tesla resistance is spot on. The Speedmaster is what it is a Tool Watch and "no so much" a piece of jewellery.
You would think the omega symbol on the Hesalite would be matched in position with the logo on the watch. Seemed strange that they didn’t line up properly.
@@jamescrozier2806I think he got the previous generation which even ADs are still selling. The watch in this video is so new it doesn’t even have the bracelet that ADs would stock soon after the announcement. The correct bracelet has a micro adjustment
@@krit5339 Hi, could you elaborate a bit on that? It happened to me, had the watch just a month and let the chrono run while winding as well. Result: watch stopped altogether. Went back to the jeweller, they sent the watch to an omega service center. When I received the watch again it came with a small plastic bag with bent wheels. The jeweller didn't understand and there was no note from the service center. The jeweller advised to not wind the watch when the chrono is active. It didn't happen afterwards but I always stop the chrono when I wind the watch. Would love to hear your experience though.

Yeah the x861 is definitely not a column wheel movement. You gotta mortgage the house and give your first born for a 321. I really wish there was a more affordable way to get a 321 speedy.
@@jodysilvia2 Man, we have very similar design preferences. I've looked very hard at the exact same CW. Once I got my speedy, I keep coming back to Omega for my next nice watch. Can't argue with the c63 white dial though. It is a beautiful piece.
You should the check out the Mark II reissue from 2014 (still available in some versions). Arguably better looking, 28.8k beat rate, co-axial column wheel chronograph based on the Valjoux 7753.
Excellent video as usual thanks Rob. I must be one of the few people who is ambivalent about this particular watch. The pushers are too close to the crown, the handset too thin and the dial is a bit plain? I really like the all black version with the yellow accents in 44mm.
Would prefer an automatic movement. needs a glide lock clasp too. And maybe 100m of water resistance, so you could swim with it .And then the price. you could pick one up 5 years ago for 3k new, now they are double . omega are doing what rolex have done, increasing the prices and making them more costly to buy. I can't see why it should be 6.5k . the only thing they have changed is the bracelet design , and that doesn't justify the price difference to the older models. personally I think it should be no more than 4k tops imo.
You are right: they pushed the price a little bit too far. But you can't say they just change the bracelet. Actually they change the case length, the dial, the mouvement, that took 4 years to develop, with the co-axial technology that make it nearly 3 times more precise, accable, anti-magnetic and double the service time... It is the same look, but not the same watch.
Paganni design copied it and charge 80 quid for their version 3. It looks exactly like that. Buy the strapcode bracelet for it and you are there pretty much.
@@larsdragl670 well there's a date window and the lugs are a little different and of course you have Paganni Design written on it..and there is zero anti reflective coating, and you can feel a mechanical movement working, unlike a quartz movement, and the steel bracelet that comes with it is abysmal.. but for all intents and purposes its pretty much a speed master.

I took my 30 year old Seamaster Chrono into an Omega boutique to have it serviced. I tried one of these on and was hooked. It is fantastic.
Got the 1861 Hesalite since 2020 and it's literally the only watch I really wouldn't ever sell. Don't forget: Biggest strap monster!
How is the hesalite holding after all these years of daily use?
Holding up very well. Polished it once, has more or less minor scratches you only see up close. Don't daily it, however.
Sapphire Sandwich is great, but the Hesalite is sublime, and the brushing on the case and bracelet make a subtle, but luxurious, presentation. The lower price doesn’t hurt either! Great review!
