I'm so jealous of Cody for having those mountains and exposed bedrock where he's at. Where I live in Midwest Ohio, and all I have are hills. The mountains that were here are all smoothed down by glaciers. What's even more annoying is that there's both exposed rock on the side of a highway near where I live, and a limestone quarry only about 2 miles away. I've been digging a roughly 8 foot hole near my house in a desperate attempt to find bedrock, but I bet I have a dozen or more feet to go. At least I learned quite a bit about the local geology and history from it's layers, and how water water flows underground through a gravelly sand layer. Looks like I got off topic, still, great video. I've never been disappointed by Cody's uploads.
Like you I was trying to get the bedrock up for a construction project on my farm in SE England. I found it, just four feet under the surface - but I have a different problem. I could do with being 20 years younger shifting & knapping blocks all day, its an absolute killer!
@@riffhurricane Some people in my hometown got their terraced houses extended and the builders found they had no foundations. They'd been built directly on top of the chalk, which was only a few feet down. Which explains why they got so damp.

can't grow food on bedrock. the closer it is to the surface, the more "loose" rock makes up the soil. if you have bedrock close, there will be a lot of stones you can see poking out of the ground. use lime for pointing and plaster, rather than Portland and gypsum, it'll help dissipate the damp.

Construction suggestion from a part time carpenter, cutting supports to match the curve of the tank and then planking across then along the length of the tank like an inside out boat hull would likely alleviate the sagging and therefore puddling in the base of the greenhouse. Plot twist: The real Cody was murdered by Robo Cody and Robo Cody has taken his place
My first thought was "YES TREX ARMS YESSSS, Let the power of his ancestors run through him!" then I saw the close up and I thought *Sniff* "You are the hero that 2021 needed Cody"
More of this. ChickenHole base is unique content that's very interesting. The length between episodes is so hard to handle, I can't be the only one.
It's too bad you couldn't Collab with someone else, and spend a extended durations out there building it up.
Thats his style. No point in collabs. Also let's not pressure him, but give him his hard earned time
Yeah when I saw this one, I had to check to see if I'd missed a prior episode...
if nothing else, Cody, you've at least managed to get this old man interested in camping again. i appreciate you!
That Winged Hussar sticker!
*D E U S V U L T*
Love the end of the video. Nature at its most stealthy and fascinating. Great series, keep up the interesting work Cody.
You need to carve "Cody 2021" under the 1923
It's better to wait two years for the 2023
@@princessapplestrach6327 you're absolutely correct
It'd be better if he put it on the fresh, exposed rock he carved out for the hives.
@@ryanmiskin it would be even better if he carved new fresh rock next to that one so they are next to each other
@@sobertillnoon ooh, yeah, having them together would be nice. I just liked what he was saying about having a record of the erosion.
This is the only channel I have hit the bell on because I'm sick of UA-cam not featuring you in my feed or letting me know when you upload. I love this series.
9:46 "Helping me dig, bud?"
No. Trust me, you don't want to find the "treasure" he was burying.
The plants wil love it though!
That treasure would have been found a few minutes or seconds later in the video ;)
Loving the base! Loved the owl at the end too! Thanks for sharing brother. Really enjoy watching your journey.
When I find very old carvings in concrete or rock, on my property, I sometime wonder if I should preserve them.
I love ChickenHole base episodes and I admire the amount of work you've put into it.
Hey cody i suggest you to leave the insulation "stud" board outside and fill the "loose" space between the 2 materials with expanding foam. It will provide even better insulation and fix the exterior plate, at a reasonable cost i think
Been looking forward to an update on Chickenhole! That 1923 petroglyph is pretty cool, and I loved seeing all the critters (Buddy, arm chicken, bees, owl)
Yay!! love the chickenhole series
For a guy who wants to go to Mars so bad, you really do love everything about the Earth.
Just drop everything im doing and watch this!
6:30 make a fresh surface and scribe 2021 so you have two points at almost 100yrs apart for smaller increment comparison.
"THE OWLS ARE NOT WHAT THEY SEEM."
There's an on/off switch on the back. All the real owls were died after World War Terminus.
Castaneda...
There's no way it has been 2 years. If feels like just the other day this series started. Keep up your awesome work Cody!
Cody:*starts video with putting 3D printed arms on a chicken*
Me: *laughing uncontrollably*
Puts chicken down and immediately bumps hand on window latch
Of course we're all still watching! Everything you put out is YT gold
"i dont want children thinking they can touch dry ice"
as opposed to everything else you do
I built some hinged hoop houses for some garden containers and it feels like the chicken hole garden when I poke my head inside and pretend.. Glad to see more videos on Chicken Hole Base!
Owl ; Ima eat that kitty
Cody ; Can we be friends ? 😂👍👍
years ago my next door neighbors dog had 8 puppies, about 3 weeks later a puppy went missing... every 2nd day another puppy was gone... after 6 puppies had vanished I was outside in the back yard near sunset and heard a puppy screaming, I turned to look and saw a huge owl flying off towards the trees with the puppy in its grasp, then there was 1... yes, a large owl ( Im thinking it was the great horned owl, it had the spiked feathers on its head) can lift a 9 lb puppy with no problem...
@@bunnykiller Indeed true , I had no choice but to kill one in 1979 , it was relentless in it's attack on me . Sad as I'd never seen another on our farm since . Very aggressive predators , this one was after a baby newborn calf I was pulling , it's mother died during birth . The calf did survive .
@@swampratt36 Im a bit confused... an owl was trying to attack a newborn calf? and you? now thats a ballsy bird.
@@bunnykiller the heifer had laid down within 30 feet of the owls big burrow and died giving birth . When I arrived the owl was pulling at the sack . As I tried to inspect it ran at me . This owl was nearly 4 feet tall , his head at or above my waist . With a 6-7 foot wingspan . Very nasty claws and beak ! As I got to the calf , it was still alive but half in the birth canal . I had to back my truck up and set up a block and tackle pulley to assist pulling the large bull calf . The bird would not allow it and actually did manage to draw blood from my forearm. With no other choice , I had to dispatch him sadly .
@@swampratt36 didnt realize owls got that big...
Sure sticking with you Cody, I am living vicariously through you!
Cody, don't eat that bat!
Last time someone did this it didn't end well for all of us!
It’s the ‘rona dude
So eating bats causes fake pandemics?
Sticking with??? Cody, I'm delighted to see another episode, and can't wait to see where you're going next with this!
2 years is quite a long time. What's been the bottleneck?
Life
@@rarra life is not a bottleneck.
@@dpmakestuff Okay, then UA-cam and money are the bottleneck. He needs a grant from a reclusive billionaire ;)
@@DoctorWhom in 2018 Cody was making over 8k a month just from patreon. Granted this could have changed since then but his UA-cam numbers are great too! I’m not trying to rag on the guy, I legit just can’t get enough of his content and greedily want more! It’s fine to speculate but Cody is the only one that is going to know the answer to my question.
I'd say you did a lot of work in 2 years. It's so cool to see the troubleshooting process and how you fix things.
...the fans don't really add to the viewing experience.
Cody, upload more!!! We don't mind seeing the mundane things and chores, we love you and your content!
