You'll love the Tough. I've had varying experiences with it and one of the Cadres was kind of out of his element. He still made it fun though, even if he made us march over 20 miles instead of the planned 16. Took my feet like 4 days to recover from the blisters. Bring extra socks.
I've heard from my buddies the listed times and mileages was on there to make us feel better about it when signing up... but then in the event it changes! LOL... either way, I am glad I got a Light out of the way first... then again... it may have been better going into a Tough blind! LOL... And yeah, I will have extra socks! :)
Dont take extra socks (actually, do, but just in case), take the correct socks. My Prosok Bamboo socks kept my feet blister free during a 13 hour, 20 mile Tough where it rained for 10 or 11 of those hours. My feet were soaked the whole time and I only got a hotspot where a pebble got in the actual sock. I hear Darn Tough and Smartwool both make excellent products. Don't skimp on your socks!
Without giving too much away how much running was required? This is one question that I cannot seem to get answered. I am not a good runner. I can sprint and I can ruck until others are smoked, but running is my significant weakness. How old was the oldest member who attended/finished? Thinking of signing up for a Light in August. Thanks in advance.
We basically started with a run when checking our packs and someone didn't have an item... It wasn't measured out, but I'd say it was right at a mile. Besides this, it was just rucking and carrying wounded... And I can't tell you exact ages, but there were some folks I would say in their 50's that completed it. We only had one that did not complete it that showed up, but they bailed before we even got started, so everyone that started, finished. As for the event, they say signing up is the hardest part... and it is. It's a bit daunting, but in the end, it's definitely worth it! You'll be a better person for it! Good luck and happy rucking! :)
Stick's Blog. Thanks much. I do realize different cadre/different rules, I was just wanting an estimate! Much appreciated. I think I can do a mile total.
Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge.
Enjoyed the AAR. Thanks!
