I had the opportunity to visit the University of Michigan Law School just last week and attend a Civil Procedure Class. The atmosphere is one of a family where everyone was incredibly friendly and that made it very comfortable for me.
The Civil Procedure Class was very interesting and the time seemed so short. Even though I wasn’t aware of the cases being presented beforehand, I completely understood the material that was taught. The next class meeting was going to be on how Attorney-Client Privilege plays a role in matters of protection or compelling of evidence. I am sure that would be just as interesting.
I had a great time while there and the whole experience has inspired me to put in extra time with my LSAT studies to hopefully gain admission to this wonderful school.

"..so you probably shouldn't be picking a law school based on what you feel about a given admissions Dean." Perhaps! But I'll push back and say I think Dean Z is emblematic of so much of what you'll find in the Michigan Law community: intellectual brilliance, fierce dedication to students and their well-being, a staunch commitment to the community, and a sharp sense of humor to balance it all out. A generation of lawyers have been introduced to Michigan via Dean Z, and I know I'm not alone in acknowledging what an impact she made on my decision. She represents and reflects all the very best values of the institution, and I think prospective students could do a lot worse than looking to her as a signal for what to expect when becoming part of this wonderful institution.

Dean Z, you’re clearly the most public and charismatic admissions dean that people learn about when researching T14’s. What would you say about my fear that when you retire, UM may receive a different/smaller applicant pool and suffer a bit in reputation?

ARE YOU SAYING I LOOK LIKE I’M RETIREMENT AGE? If so, this must be Dustin’s fault. Lighting or something. But in all seriousness: UM has been one of the world’s great law schools for looooong before I came on the scene; while I appreciate your vote of confidence, I have to say that I am confident the school will soldier on without me if at some point in the distant future I decide to live on a beach with Mr. Dean Z.

Hello Dean Z! Your videos have been so helpful throughout my application process. I have a question for you as I get closer to my final submissions. Would it be acceptable to submit a modified diversity statement in the "Addendum" space on applications to law schools that do not already provide the opportunity for a diversity statement?

I absolutely think that would be appropriate! If possible, I would recommend editing it down to be a half page or so, so that the readers can have the information available without adding too much to the amount they have to read beyond what they have explicitly asked for. But I know of a couple of schools that don't explicit ask for diversity statements that nonetheless are happy to get the additional info when it's provided, so I think sending it as an addendum is an excellent approach.

@@umichlaw Okay, great! Thank you so much for the detailed response! I wasn't sure if that would be appropriate.

Hi Dean Z and others at Michigan Law! Thank you for this tremendous resource for LSAT admissions. I am a Junior in undergrad preparing to take my LSAT for the first time and watch these videos to get ready for the admissions process. I had a couple of questions that could potentially make good videos! First, how do you evaluate/do you have any advice for the LSAT Writing portion? Second, is LSAT preview worth it? If I score a 155 on my first LSAT and a 165 on my second attempt, will the 155 bring down my admissions chances? Vice versa? Thank you for all of the work that you do!
