I am so envious of anyone starting on their musical journey now. To have these choices available that anyone can afford, is just incredible. That Flame Maple Strat would have been my prized possession 25 years ago when I started learning on a shitty presswood body Sears Roebuck LP copy! I might just order one myself...
Not to mention daws, drum samples, youtube tutorials, its ridiculous. We copied metallica tabs with the school copier and played through 10w amps with no gain channel and no reverb. And the generation before us slowed vinyls down to hear riffs and solos and figure them out by ear.
As a seasoned guitar player who bought that Strat… it’s still one of my prized possessions! Modded the hell out of it, it was my way of trying to forget about the one that got away… (sold a Fender FSR sandblasted crimson Strat years ago, and regretted it.)
These new Squier Tele affinity’s have a feature that all Teles should have always had since the 1950s….. the rear contour cutaway in the back. I don’t care if you are built like Prince or Meatloaf…. That rear contour makes playing 1,000x more comfortable.
I picked one of these up in part because of your wonderful performance/critiques online here and I gotta tell you this is a great guitar for the money I am impressed
Squier is clearly back to the specs of the late 90s early 2000s Squier Standard Series Strats, Tele, and basses. Different is that those came with alnico pickups. They also came with the two points tremolo. I own many Squier guitars from different eras and I love them all. Great demo
I'm surprised by the Affinity lineup this year. It's usually Squier's lower line of instruments, but they sound great. I'm wondering if they upped it with the Affinity seeing as Glarry, Donner, and other makers manufacture great instruments at a super cheap price? Anyway looks and sound awesome.
That's the status quo right now pretty much anywhere outside the continental US. Although made in China, export (markets outside the US) is the dumping ground for the junk models or colours no one wants, and stale (previous years) stock. Here in mid 2021 the distro is even still selling old 2019 (?) model Affinity Teles with no pickup height adjustment on the neck pickup. Very caveat emptor, as that's what a buyer here will get if ordering online sight unseen. e-commerce website images can't be relied upon to be accurate.
@@Mogford Curiosity begged, so I just loaded the US Fender site. It specs the current model Affinity Tele as now having a 40.6mm nut combined with a horrible fishbowl curvature 9.5" (241mm) radius. Previous Affinity nuts were 42mm which worked fine. The new nut width is now closer to but tighter than the narrow 41mm of Yamaha's Pacifica, but without the Pacifica's equally narrow 10.5mm string spacing over a flatter 350mm radius fretboard to facilitate it. Fender's website doesn't spec a string spacing for the Affinity, but a previous model I played was 11mm. And, the illustration depicts the current Affinity as still having no neck pickup height adjustment!!!
Thank you so much. After a few days of watching your videos I’m going to go with the Squier FM HSS to start my electric journey ! Black burst. Keep up the good work. Love your happy positive style.
Blown away by the quality improvement from Squier. Have an FSR Affinity Tele HH, the neck is amazing and the 40.6mm nut is a dream. Very playable instrument straight out of the box. I plan on upgrading the bridge pick up to either a JB 4 or an Invader.
My 20 yo squier is a piece of junk compared to these squiers and I really liked it at the time. It was actually one of the better models with nice tone. I thought I would have it refretted out of nostalgia but now I when I've heard these new cheap squiers that sound so much better I'll never touch my old squier again. It is amazing they managed to get such a huge tone from these guitars. I wonder how the HH would sound with a better pickup hah.

I picked up 2020 affinity tele special in butterscotch blonde last year as a self birthday gift. It had the update string through body and can hold its own. The body is deep enough for a proper USA switch and USA control plate. I’m going to be picking up the black tele deluxe w/ humbuckers for sure. Amazing guitars.
I was here for the jaguar bass, because my local shop just got one in and I wanted to hear how it sounded. Sounds good and clanky! 🤟 Thanks for the video guys! Edit: Got it, had some time to play around with it, and I absolutely love it! Kinda sounds like a stingray, but shorter and passive! I would absolutely recommend it! Completely blown away!
That white strat has no business looking and sounding as amazing as it does, also I wish the affinity like was full thickness it really limits the modability which is one of the best things about a strat
Just ordered the Affinity FMT HSS in Black Burst, can't wait to get it! It's my first legit guitar. It's interesting though, I got it on Sweetwater and some of them have very pronounced stripes in the design, while others have practically no stripes, I like the stripes lol.

@@RebeccaHindle the spec on Classic Vibes are probably better but I just hate lacquer gloss finish necs so much.... I actually had one some years ago but had to sell it because it's unplayable for me. I hope they gonna make one with satin finish neck like most modern fenders have. It doesn't stick to your hand
@@RebeccaHindle Yes, buy one with a satin finish. But seriously, you can remove it with strippers and sanding, but the end result will look like a dog's breakfast without sufficient nous, lots of time put in, & spending money tools and materials. Polyurethane once hardened, is a very hard finishing clear. Just not worth it on any brand guitar at that price point. Buy one without a finished neck instead if that's your preference. I'm glad I saw this video. I was about to buy a HSS metallic black or grey HSS strat from 22, with the 2 point trem, which I thought was a "STD model", because of the 2 point trem. It didn't have the "Affinity or STD" badge on the headstock. I'd been watching another guys beat up old 09 CY STD & I'm picking that up in a couple of days. It's for a friend to replicate her sons USA Special (big headstock) Strat. Just need to paint the body Olympic White & put a HB in the bridge position. I have a Squier now, bought the bundle, Red and Black, Love it! So what is the difference between the Squiers and the Fenders, besides the price?? Can you do a comparison between the two?
Some of the differences are the neck finish. While Squire has come a long way with finish, Fenders finish on the necks is Craftsman level. Tuning keys are nicer and the overall hardware better.
