This video is a good start, but I found it lacking. WHY are the nuts classified the way they are? WHAT are each used for?

Hey! Nice video, helped a lot to know more about what kind of nuts are out there.
I have a question, though. For what application would you use a left hand nut or a squared shape nut. I can't figure out their purpose. Also, is there any general "guideline" to follow when choosing which kind of nut to use?
    Thank you in advanced

Thank you for the feedback and question! A few answers to your questions:
      1. When would you use a left hand nut? You would use a left hand nut with a left hand threaded screw or bolt.
      2. When would you use a square nut? A square nut is a four-sided nut. Compared to standard hex nuts, square nuts have a greater surface in contact with the part being fastened, and therefore provide greater resistance to loosening (thought also greater resistance to tightening). They are also much less likely to become rounded-off after repeated loosening/tightening cycles. Square Nuts are typically mated with square-head bolts.
      3. Is there a general guideline for choosing which kind of nut to use? We usually recommend matching the type of screw you are using or starting with a standard hex nut. Hex finish nuts are the most popular type of nut, followed by nylon insert nuts (used for applications with vibration or where backoff is unwanted), thin jam nuts (for lower profile), etc.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions!

He explained what each nut was, but not what they were used for (their application). That’s the most important part imo. He did it for a few of them but there were plenty he didn’t

I think the first piece of information re the two hex nuts should not be “ circumference “ rather than “ dimension” Circumference generally refers to circular objects. Just sayin!!!

Of course, very informative, but oh my God it is so distracting with those big mitts of his, when he’s playing with the nuts! He can’t leave them alone- he just keeps going in and touching --VERY DISTRACTING!!!
