I'm so excited for you to be following your passions. So many of us are stuck in the same old same old or bound by the expectations of others. It's so encouraging to see you embrace the things that bring you joy.
Yay Dale and Andy!!! It's wonderful to have such great friends to lend a helping hand. Good luck working on those classics. Oh and one more thing....be careful you don't become the car version of the crazy cat lady 😄.
I'm reminded of sitting in a barn and watching my grandfather restore an oak buffet. He would ask my opinion frequently. I am 12. I love restoration stories. I was 9 when this VW rolled off an assembly line and get so excited with your adventures Alex.
I love to do restoration of old Hoosier Cabinets, Sellers Cabinets, hutches, massive, solid wood kitchen tables, I’ve restored 4 vintage vanities from the 1940’s and all but 1 had the original mirror. I’ve completely restored a vintage sleigh bed w/matching wardrobe, chest of drawers, nightstands/end tables, etc. I love removing the layers of time and the “looks” that have come and gone with eras and their fads. I reupholster furniture as well. I am not a fan of kitchen 🪑 though. The old ones have such ornate detail work that it is time consuming and tedious work to get into those tiny nooks and crannies.
Alex you do so much for others it’s nice to see others for you!! Great friends indeed but as Dale said he knows you and your character so it’s no big deal for him!! Great video!! Big hugs for you all!!
I learned to drive in my parents’ Vauxhall Victor station wagon. I could parallel park it like a pro. That car went round the clock 4 - yes FOUR - times and the only repairs it ever had was the clutch (multiple times). My mother was a clutch rider of note. EDIT: I just remembered its registration number 55 years later - RSB 8736. (Southern Rhodesian registration)
I learned how to drive in 1981ish in a VW van of the late 70s. Plate 144 STA. It had a permanent camper poptop and was highly susceptible to catching side winds. I learned how to syncro shift just for the fun of it. We travelled across the USA in it in 77. It was called Miles Portly and had a turtle on the front tire cover.
This realy mad my day seeing you finaly picking it up after you geting it and seeing that snow bank up to the roof on it.... so much nicer out of the paddock
That was a fun adventure. You surely do have some good friends who are up for a challenge! Looking forward to the restoration and also for the retrieval of Andy's truck!
I think that there is at least an 80% chance that we will be seeing a future episode with Alex digging out that little station wagon. That would be a fun car for one of the kids to drive!
That was a nice adventure and it came out easier than I thought it would. That was the easy part now for the hard part restoring it. That Vauxhall Wagon looked really good.
Congrats on the find and the extraction. I found a 58 years ago which later spent time under different ownership as a chicken coup then sold for 10 times what I paid for it(500). Glad your is in much better shape, best wishes for the resto
We always bring a shovel and dig little ramps in front of the tires of vehicle we try to recover. Really reduces the stress on the pulling straps and frame of the vehicle. Glad she popped loose!
Just started watching your channel last week. Thought I'd share some experience: Next time you wanna do an extraction again, make sure to bring two bottle jacks and your favorite rust release. You could have raised the wheels out of the muck to get them unstuck there, and you would have found your front wheels to be locked and could have pre soaked and/or broke them free. Tips and tricks are good. May our Father bless and guide you and your family.
Lol as a VW lover I can appreciate that beauty. I had one just like that. I had 2 small children and a big dog. We put a playpen in the back and went camping. We bought that VW for $50.00🥰 Oh..those were great days!!
Kudos to Dale and Andy!!! You've surrounded yourself and your family with the coolest friends. I love to see such camaraderie and helpfulness. She's a lot of work, but she has some good bones. What an adventure it will be! I see a Vauxhall in your future........LOL
My first car that I could buy new on my own was VW Beetle semi standard and a small sun roof that was cool, oh and the color was red. All you had to do was change the rear motor every 60 miles. I loved it. The Van that some friends had, brought back many good memories and sweet smells, haha. But we were good kids compared to todays. Good luck refurbishing the vintage van, I'll be watching all the way through. Thanks Alex and to Melissa for what she sees as another piece of junk at her new home. That's Love!
It's great to have friends but friends with trailers and winches are priceless. My friends dad once said when you have a trailer you are never lonely! Fab stuff. I await with interest what will come of this one. Mart in England.
Good job guys that bus was so stuck , but what a find. You should really go back and get that British station wagon that’s just as much of a find. I can’t believe your still getting snow it’s just raining in Seattle. Keep up the work with the classic cars. Cheers !
I’ve always had a tendency to anthropomorphize things and I think that van looks very happy to know that it’s going to get a second chance to live. My friend recently bought a 60s era restored Volkswagen Beetle and it is amazing how much attention they get. It’s weird because when I was young they were still all over the place and there was even a mechanic’s shop that specialized in them we used to pass to go to the mall. Then they made the modern re-issues in the 90s but it’s even rare to see one of those now.
The memories I have from owning two VW Beetles, and almost owning a chopped VW bus, comes back when I see your new acquisition! VW made iconic fun cars! I would love to find a VW bus and relive the fun. As an artist, it would give the artsy status that so many had in the 60s. I can’t wait to see the transformation of your VW bus, as all of your other makeovers have been awesome!
I had a 1970 Karmann Ghia for a few years and that was a _fun_ car! It was probably a bit of a death trap, though. But it was great for me at the time.
@@sheelfjohnson All VW air cooled models were death traps ... Life is a gamble at best, so live by the sword ... Air cooled VW's were ALL about fun & enjoying the journey ... Slainte' ! Cheers !
I keep being puzzled, genuinely puzzled, over how some farms have all these cars just stashed like this. Why? I am also amused by it that's for sure. ;-) Glad to see that some of them will be back in action tho!
Most of the "old timers" would keep old equipment and vehicles in order to have a handy supply of things to "make do". In other words, they never knew when there would be a need for a part to repair another vehicle or equipment. And since, the farms were usually way out in the sticks - it would be too much of a nuisance to try and drive into town for a part. They could cobble together a repair and get back to work. Now, we can order something on line and have it delivered for a repair. This kind of thinking probably arose from the Depression when every one just had to work with what was available.
I was 18 in 69 and my dad bought me a Volkswagen bug in 67 for me .I loved that car..that van is gonna be hot when restored..u have some great friends ..
Nice one! I have heard that they make a popular electric conversion, which would fulfil your wish for an EV, too. You already have the power connection.
That Vauxhall Station Wagon is quite rare, especially in the UK, and it would be great if it could be salvaged. The ‘Splitty’ is lovely especially the colour.
That was fun Alex . The VW brings back great memories. I look forward to watching it's transformation to the beauty it originally was. Greetings from Perth Western Australia 🛻🇦🇺

Restored worth about 130 thousand American dollars. I wish I had kept my 1969 Land Rover Defender.
😍😍😍These Volvo's in the background!!! 😍😍😍 Here in Sweden they goes by Volvo Amazon... Loves that cars... 🥰
Did you notice ? I think I saw the van smiling as it was going down the highway, with the wind blowing over it! It's a beauty!!
VW LIFE RULES ! Slainte' ! Cheers !

Woo. Just posted fresh. Loving the videos. Impressive competency of Dale and Andy. Good friends to have.
I love the variety of your videos.
I like that Dale’s getting more comfortable and relaxed on camera!
He looks familiar?! Like a movie actor from the past.
He is such a great guy! :)
He reminds me of Gary Buesey
Eddies quite handsome
You are very lucky to have such good friends!
I sure am :)

Great find. Found a 1978 Champagne Edition with 24000 miles on it. Restoring has been a blast.
That is brilliant you have found that...I love them...your friends are brilliant and melissa is an angel...she loves them as well...
‘61! It was a very good year! Good on you for salvaging old historic vehicles!!! 😊❤️🇨🇦
So glad you got your bus out and home. Adventure is good for the soul and so are projects
Wish you the best progress!
This rescue was exciting. Can't wait to see each step in the reno. Thanks for sharing!

That will be a fantastic van if you can get it restored and on the road. Those guys helping you were great.
For a minute, I thought I had on the “Matt's Off-road Recovery” channel. You all showed a great deal of tenacity.
lol

A “Field Fresh” “crusty dream”… Can’t wait to see Jason Driving it! 😜🤓 (once it’s restored)
Darren ("Mustie1" on UA-cam) called his van "Crusty". Alex, you should contact him. He's a VW aficionado.
for sure

I look forward to the adventure back to retrieve Andy's 'new' van.

I was born in 1961 so this year I will be 61. Hope I am not abandoned in a field. Good luck on restoring the bus.
I like how you chose a one that you might hear on the Beverly hillbillies as you are hauling the bus down the road.
You scored my dream vehicle!!!❤️
You certainly have great friends. Bus is a mess. Should keep you busy for quite a while. Good luck 👍
Andy got the awesome truck! I saw it and said, omg, I want that! Glad you got your bus home. Looking forward to the restoration of it.
Glad you rescued another old car and looking forward to the restoration video's. Your lucky to have so many Great freinds like these two guys. 👍

Melissa is a good sport. I usually am a good sport too, but that would be a "no way" at my house.
I am happy to see your excitement though.
I cant believe after expenses he could make any money. My husband is a body man. Paying to get it worked on ain't cheap.
Alex will never go without a project. It's what makes his heart go pitter patter.

Love that VW, but I think you should go back for the Vauxhall, too! What a cute little vehicle... perfect for tootling around town!
Yes the Vauxhall too.
Great job. Beautiful VW Kombi. You have a lot of work to restore it. Greetings from Chile.
Everytime you see Dale & Andy you should bring them a roll of Lifesavers! On Christmas you could get them the gift box of them.
Alex, you don't have good friends, you have GREAT & WONDERFUL FRIENDS!
Dale and Eddie rock. Love guys who come prepared for the job ahead.

Yes Melissa you have excellent taste. This has always been my dream van as well. I am excited to see it restored.
I loved my 1972 super beetle.
My first car was a 69 Vauxhall Envoy. I paid $800 and it ran on 3 of 4 cylinders, but got me where I needed to go as a teenager!
Wow what a great job guys! Love the VW van its awesome! Hope you keep the colour the same, it looks great.
This was interesting to watch, great job.
I'd have been itching to drag out that Voxhall wagon too. I am with Melissa, I love a VW van.
Find of a lifetime!!! Enjoy the project!!
That cute little wagon has possibilities! Will be fun to see that truck pulled out.

I’m so excited to see the future of this bus! I have a Baywindow, wish I had a split!
That was awesome. I remember the video when you showed us it hemmed in with snow. Looking forward to seeing it bought back to life.
My brother had a red & white early 70's bus. It was fun to ride in & drive.
Great adventure! Thanks Alex
It'll be allot of work but well worth it when it's done.
What a treasure trove of saveable vehicles! Love to see some of them being saved!
