Cool truck! I had one I do know that you will need to upgrade the spurgear to a steel one. It was insane to drive 😀 I think mine had the e-z start on it, I just got the 4x4vxl rustler . Keep having fun !!
hey brother! Yup, I totally agree, these are great and easy to work on platforms with so many parts available for cheap. And yet many dudes like to put them down, well the Nitrogang over here isn't gonna let that happen. I want you to get a t-maxx 3.3 btw, that will become your never fav basher.
Literally today got out my nitro rustler off the closet, left away due the difficulty to get part on my country such a shame. This car is amazing no doubt it still runs even when got away like 4 years.
Legend has it thats the nitro truck that started the carolina squatted truck trend. My used facebook market place nitro rustler was cut the same way for the throttle aswell. I notched it out even more and tried to play with rotating the throttle arm but never really found much clearance. Makes me wonder if the aluminum "chassis" is bent or tweaked an jamming the carb into the tank. To this day one of my favorite cars. My 1st rustler and its used so i figured part of it was normal.
Glad you were able to save another nitro . It sure is a tight fit around the carburetor I just cracked my carb body it wasn't in exactly right when I tightened it down. Live and learn 😥
I'm a low voltage electrician for the railroad aka signalman. Batteries that have age on them and haven't been discharged can flip polarity. See it all the time on 25 plus year old lead acid batteries.
hey my dude! Glad to have you here, and you're right, it could happen. In my experience over time damage to lipo batteries from the excessive vibrations of RC cars will cause even more rapid wear than many people thing would happen. I've seen countless lipo fires but have Never seen a nitro RC fire, you know, LOL. Anyway, you're 100% right.
Cool bro, someone ran over my dads RC10GT 17 years ago lol, I fixed it and still run it today. I saw a comment about liquid electric tape, you can water prooof all you electronics with this spray called conformal coating, someone did a review on it a while back
whats up brother! Thanks for watching and supporting this channel. I do it for the Nitrogang and that 2-SPEED baby! This may be a single speed, but it's still cooler than most electrics, ahaha. Although not cooler than the original 2-speed e-maxx which I also own.
Love the videos man can’t wait to see those schmachers out and running.. I myself just picked up a rc10 gt plus that I’m restoring as I watch your videos nitro gang for life
:) have a hpi savage x 4.6. Basically new. broke it in 4 years ago. Life happened. Started it before last winter and the one way bearing went out lol. Pretty much broke in. Drove a tank scratched body up got dusty. Sat in closet fpr years prob covered in cat fur. Planning on buying one eay bearing soon
With my tmaxx with the idle gap letting a little more air in I just put stronger cultch on it so when the rpm is a little more higher the clutch shoes don’t shoot out and it has to rev up to a little more to get going. #nitrogang
hey bro! YUP!, at the end of the day they did what any large manufacturer would do, and that is to get "more market share", this is just pure capitalism, and personally I don't blame them, this is just business. If you're not #1, then somebody else will be. In fact the majority of industry in tis country was built with heavy monopolies in railroads, oil, telecom, energy, owned by total assholes, you know.
On my nitro sport / when I upgraded from the .15 to the 2.5r I have the same filter issue with mine by spur gear , I had a different motor mount as well needed for the 2.5r to fit the nitro sport frame
hey bro! Yup, that makes sense, the Nitro sport was only designed to run the pro 15. I'm quite sure this rustler's 2.5 and 3.3 mourning is identical, seems to just be designed to be that tight normally. I highly doubt this one has a non-standard motor mount too. anyway, NITROGANG!!>
Yo dude merry Christmas and a happy new year all my electric rcs are going to be used not so much next summer gas and nitro only I've still got my Schumacher havic 17years old still a beast runs well and can still hit 50mph+
I love watching your informative nitro videos like this! It's what makes your channel unique! Looks like that carb may be aftermarket? The revo I had was similar. That carb would come so close to running the air filter on the spur. Great video as always. Nitrogang boss in full effect here! Nitro forever!
I took a few photos of my rustler with a 2.5R in it. The slide on the carb has to be turned to the side towards the spur. I’m not sure how to post a pic.
hey my dude! I know exactly what you're talking about. I examined many pictures of the nitro rustler form the traxxas site and the carb is always mounted on a diagonal, this is normal. I did the same exact thing, it's the same carb they use on all the motors, other than the Pro 15. I already have it turned as much as possible, it's adequate now, but only after I chopped off a piece of the upper deck portion.
Happy holidays nitro gang loving this one thank's for sharing still loving this one traxxas is always a good nitro truck can't wait for hpi to return then they'll be a good nitro battle 🙏🙏🙏🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲💪💪💪
hey bro!! I'm glad you noticed the body on this thing, so I did not explain what this white body is. It's from a Rustler VXL, therefore it's not a nitro version and the rear body pin does not fit unfortunately. The two front body posts are the same, this is a little bit of a problem. But this electric version of the rustler shell sure does look amazing, right!!!
I have a slash nitro 2wd w/3.3 love the truck it screams. But I have issues lately w/the clutch bearings failing and spurs failing. And yeah on the 2wd nitro slash the air filter is scary close to the spur gear
hey bro! So it must be a thing for these rustlers and the Nitro Slash to have those air filters that close, it's almost the same chassis. How is your gear mesh? You gotta make sure the gear mesh is good and not too loose or too tight, and also allow for a tiny amount of slip with the slipper clutch. You should not be destroying the spur that easily. Also check the clutch bearing to make sure they are shimmed according to the manual, use the Traxxas teflon washers, let me know. I've almost never had a clutch bearing failure.
I also have a problem with my slide carb getting stuck on the lip of the fuel tank, idk what causes it, but I had that problem slowly develop after break in.
Hey man, I just responded to your other comment on the issue on this for rustler you should be able to see it in the newer video. I gave you some good points on how to make sure the link does not hit the fuel tank.
hey bro! I highly recommend you stick to the original Traxxas shocks, they are very good and absolutely nothing wrong with them. Check eBay, just search for Traxxas rustler shocks. EASY. Don't upgrade or mod the suspension, it never ends well. always problems, as you can see with this one.
Hey Hybrid! I know what your saying about picking up these older Nitro's you don't know what they were thinking when building and upgrading them! They make great rebuilding content! Hope you had a great Christmas and Happy Holiday!😉😎👍ONG!
Theres a notch in the carb that the isle screw sits in.. if it's not sitting on the notch then you have the issue of the idle screw not going in all the way.. put the file screw in the notch then u can set it idle right
hey dude! YEs, you're 100% right, thanks for pointing that out. I eventually re-centered the slide valve in the carb body and it seems to be much better..
BROO!! UA-cam always trying to keep the Nitrogen down and seems to mostly support videos from annoying British ppl who think electrics cars going on fire is somehow rare and interesting ahhaha. You know who I'm talking about. It seems many of my viewers do not get notifications, you're not the first to tell me that. DOnt matter, I will keep making vids until I die bro!! BTW< tomm is a new video, I can almost guarantee you it will piss of the entire electric gang!! Tomm bro, make sure to check.
hey bro! I see you've watched a couple of my vids so far, glad to have you here! You're gonna love the Nitro Life my dude! Just take it easy, break it in normally and you will be fine. And feel free to ask me any questions, ok.
I am ready to see savages get here to th U.S. I have a tmaxx 2.5 I rebuilt but I think it would be cool to have the 5.9 savage with that 3 SPEED BABY!!!! NITROGANG🤘
The idle adjustment screw is probably stripped out, same thing happened to mine, the carb is made of plastic and that is what is stripped, so need a whole new carb body
Look at the angle of the throttle arm and the servo when the throttle is fully closed. I think the carb is too far to the right side if the vehicle causing it to not have the proper reach to close the carb. Hard to tell on video though. Looks like if you loosen the spring collar and move the arm further you may be able to get it to close. But not sure.
I love nitros. We are the nitro gang baby. Well I got my new jato 3.3 tsm black and orange and blue and I am back with the nitros baby. Electric cars ima keep them
I have an old Stampede for a donor of a few parts...like Traxxas Aluminum big bores. My son and I started racing 2wd SCT and Stadium Trucks over the past few years. He races 4mod and E-Buggy now mostly. For kicks I may get a Nitro Slash or Nitro Rustler... to race at club races. Which do you think I'd better?
Bro next time on the nitro to kill it just put your finger over the exhaust...if it is tuned right it just dies instantly...also the air filter take a straight edge razor blade and just trim a hair and zip it to the carb works wonders best nitro I have ever owned dude thing runs like a beast...stay up greetings from Cali🤙
2 things ,maybe the carb has the wrong idle screw and that's why the screw is all the way out and the gap is still large (screw too long) 2 just some fyi a losi 3.0 carb fits and runs 100% better than the traxxas carb which was originally made for the 2.5 and never got bigger for the 3.3 the losi is closer in size as its a 3.0 and better suited for the 3.3 .Love your videos
hey my dude!, you know, I though of that too. IDK how that can be because the carbs are the same part numbers and even the engine mounts are identical on these. Its possible the 2.5 block is slightly smaller and the carb sits on it differently, even though the overall footprint is the same. Unfortunately I don't have a 2.5 motor to test fit.
11:56 How in the hell ... that battery is somehow reverse polarity ... like it was put together back to front ... the negative symbol in front of the number proves this. If you swapped the mustimeter leads around, and put the red lead on the negative side (which is actually positive lol) and the black on positive, it would read + voltage. Weird as hell ... never seen that before, but my guess would be it was assembled back to front LoL.
hey dude! Glad you watched this video, this is a whole series of videos on this nitro rustler, you gotta watch the playlist and you'll see the issues I've run into. So I used a multimeter on the rest of the AA batteries and they were all low voltage, but none had negative. I'm thinking the battery was so damaged that the poles internally just got swapped and lost it's proper orientation.
@@hybrid32494 I am watching ALL your videos ... I just pressed the "Play All" grabbed a dominos pizza with chicken and peppers, and im sitting back learning and laughing my ass off at the same time! Keep the outfits and wigs coming, i loose my shit when I see the new comedy skits you put together!
@@charliebrown238 hahaha, BRO!! did you say pizza! I'm going to dominoes right now, gonna order one up for myself! I just got replacing a carb on a gas RC, and it's making me hungry!.
Great vid. I’m still a LiPo runner but looking to move to nitro. I like fast and being able to run in the yard and on the road. Would you recommend the Rustler or the Jato?
hey my dude! Thanks for watching! The Nitrogang would love to have you join the crew man! How about the Traxxas Nitro Slash (check it out). It's about the same price as the new rustler but built with a longer chassis and comes with the 3.3, instead of the 2.5 motor. I recently did a video on the Nitro Slash, check it out. I think that's the one for you.
@@hybrid32494 Thanks for the reply. I was sticking to the options from local shop. Preparing to go get on shortly. They only have the Jata, Rustler and the T Max
hey bro!! This is the X-FIles of RC right here, nothing went as expected. I glossed over a lot of issues I ran into, but solved eventually. Anyway, I checked the voltage multiple times on various sided of the battery, it's literally negative lol, must be an internal battery failure of some type. Otherwise it's the BLACK HOLE of batteries, hahaha .
This is probably farfetched but maybe the previous owner lost the idle set screw and replaced it with a spare LSN. That could explain why the idle gap is so large.
hey my dude!! At this point even super far-fetched reasons to explain anything about the X-FILES of RC will be somewhat possible, lol. SO far I've ordered a new replica traxxas carb for only 18 bucks, that will be an interesting test to see if it's totally crap or not.
Newcomer to your chamber here, wanted to say hello and thanks for the video, it brings some insight on what I’m doing. I’ve been in the process of engine swapping the 3.3 on the rustler as well. I seen you were having troubles with the throttle arm, I’m not sure if that’s what’s going wrong with mine as well. I’m having issues with the servo throttle and brake rods. I’m quite confused why there is binding, I have all the bars the same as yours, but there’s no brake. If you have any insight on this issue, thank you.
hey my dude! Welcome to the channel and thanks for watching, BTW this rustler repair series has a few other videos in the playlist you might want to watch. My best suggestion to you is to make sure to look at the original manual for this model and follow the pictures where they talk about the trim settings and linkages. You could have minor linkage issues which are almost impossible for me to pin point in this comment, you know. Also look for the top-down pictures of this chassis and it will help you with the linkages. There is always lots of trial and error too, you gotta realize that even a 1MM adjustment will affect your brake force.
Idle gap is being held by the servo that's why I won't go any lower adjust the servo you'll notice that it goes lower take the horn off your servo turn it towards the carburetor one click
hey bro! The 3.3 model engine is identical to the 2.5 and 2.5R. They all share the same backplate and carbs, only the internals are slightly different and bigger to allow for greater displacement. This 3.3 fit into the 2.5 mounting bracket with no problems. Even the clutch components are identical too.
Um the big screw is your idle set screw that small one is your high end. Shut the idle adjuster (big screw on carb) then turn it open 2 1/2 turns you can do the same with the small high speed set screw. That is factory settings
Yep, just pinch as close as you can to the carb, I don’t like to use this method, I just do a wide open throttle run, bring it back, idle for 5 seconds and then just punch it and see how it runs
I have everything you have in this video the same thing with the filter happened it scratched the filter not enough to break through it but enough for it to not do it again lol 😅🤞
It’s time for me to once again acquire an eBay nitro rc and restore it... been thru a rustler and a mgt. thinking about a hpi nitro rs4 or a associated nitro tc3 this time... any thought on which is the best choice?
hey bro! What's going on! This is a serious NItrogang question over here, no denying that, lol. I'd highly recommend an HPI Nitro RS4, or better yet a newer RS4-3 model. If possible get a nice HPI MT2 with the G3.0. Those are the best of the best right there.
I’ll keep an eye out for the MT2 thanks! Found a rs4-3 type ss that looks pretty sweet, also wanted to ask if the 3.3 was a drop in on the rustler? How did everything end up on that build? Nitrogang forever!
@@cheezyrider1111 the 3.3 will drop into the 2.5 rustler. I have a ntc3 (2.5r swapped) and a nitro rs4 2 pro racer. (15fe). The ntc3 is a better chassis. Both have parts availability issues. The 4tec is a worse chassis but will have better parts availability.
I went and drilled a body post. Then sliced in half. Put them in on my front running t maxx bigbore shocks. Now my front arms are flush with chassis how they are supposed to be
whats up bro!! What parts are you looking for. The nitro rustler/rustler series has the most parts available I've ever seen. what you need to do is look up the exploded parts views and manual on the traxxas site and put in the part number into amazon and eBay, you will see tons of parts for cheap.
I had the same problems with my nitro slash, the carb hits the tank and the chassis brace I had to cut the brace to clear for a gear change. Also those blue shocks suck they're made by 3racing don't buy them, buy pro-line.
whats up my dude!, THat's right!, That stuff is awesome. I've been using it for years so far without any adverse affects. I like to put some on the receiver's antenna wire right where it comes out from the case, that is is the most delicate part and usually it's pulled inside the RX box and can get loose. (Ive had that happen)
@@snoopysrc what do you mean? You think the 3.3 in this nitro rustler is bad? ITs fine, got tons of compression and runs fine. The carb is for sure not good from what I showed, that you're totally right about.
hey bro. That is a good question, many people make "SPEED RUSTLERS" from this platform. Personally you're better off choosing a Jato if it's an option. Once you stick on some tall gears and lower the entire chassis it will safely do 60+ MPH. The Jato can do 65 MPH stock. Depending on which type of racing you're talking about? Drag racing or more like dirt jumps on a track? Generally you want a 4WD buggy for a dirt track.
LOL, yes! Planning that would have been useful ,ahaha! Either way, I'm not an electric RC guru, you know! I'm only the NITRO Guru over here, so you'll have to forgive me. JK bro! Thanks for watching.
i like traxxas i still have an early 2000’s rustler with the easy start system that still runs. but I don’t like what they did to the industry in my Area, I run multiple brands and when Traxxas reps came through like the plague pushing product with the promise of higher profit $$ gains to local shops, slowly but surely most other brands were wiped out and replaced with traxxas Products pushing most everything else out. leaving guys like me that run multiple brands of RC’s to order online or drive a few hrs round trip. 5 years later the last of 6 local shops that converted to mostly one brand closed its doors a few months ago. but the shops that didn’t fall for the quick buck and kept the balance remain open but are far and few in between.
whats up man!! I totally agree! I was not the dude who changed the original shocks, I also like them and find them terrific for what they are. you're totally right! Nitrogang baby!.

Makes me wonder if the aluminum "chassis" is bent or tweaked an jamming the carb into the tank. To this day one of my favorite cars. My 1st rustler and its used so i figured part of it was normal.
You have sparked me to bring out my old nitro rustler, revo, and hb d8.
Craziness putting a 3.3 on a Rusty! Fun! But jus absolutely insane to drive it😆
Nice bud I'm rebuilding my hpi fire strom and trying to get my thundertiger mta28 truck gear box to run right bud
Cool bro, someone ran over my dads RC10GT 17 years ago lol, I fixed it and still run it today. I saw a comment about liquid electric tape, you can water prooof all you electronics with this spray called conformal coating, someone did a review on it a while back
Nitro Rustler! Finally! This thing is a an awesome car even with the stock Pro 15!
hey man! Sorry it took me a while to respond, but yes, Nitro Rustler 4 LIFE!!. I've owned a basic 2.5 model and it kicked some AS**>

My favorite rc man freaking love it, nitro gang baby
whats up brother!

Drove a tank scratched body up got dusty. Sat in closet fpr years prob covered in cat fur. Planning on buying one eay bearing soon
Nice vid man keep up the great work
With my tmaxx with the idle gap letting a little more air in I just put stronger cultch on it so when the rpm is a little more higher the clutch shoes don’t shoot out and it has to rev up to a little more to get going. #nitrogang
hey man! thanks for watching and your support! Nitroang!>
Yes, we have to go towards parts availability. I do hate traxxas for what they did, but it is what it is and i love my traxxas products
hey bro! YUP!, at the end of the day they did what any large manufacturer would do, and that is to get "more market share", this is just pure capitalism, and personally I don't blame them, this is just business. If you're not #1, then somebody else will be. In fact the majority of industry in tis country was built with heavy monopolies in railroads, oil, telecom, energy, owned by total assholes, you know.
hybrid32494 agreed. Great business moves
Music in my ears.😍
Wow I'm glad there is a new body for this model. When you first picked that up that thing was trashed
@@hybrid32494 yes it does. Im sure the nitroguru will figure out how to mount it properly!!!!!!
I love my nitro rustler! Wish there was more aftermarket support for it though.
Don’t forget about Kyosho 1/8 nitro Buggies, been around since the 1980s. You can still buy new rtr’s & kits. Keep up the good work 👍🏻😎
I have a slash nitro 2wd w/3.3 love the truck it screams.
@@hybrid32494 yea sorry lol, I wrote my comment and then posted it only to realize this was the old one 😂
Where would I find replacement shocks for the rustler. Or what are the dimensions?
hey bro! I highly recommend you stick to the original Traxxas shocks, they are very good and absolutely nothing wrong with them. Check eBay, just search for Traxxas rustler shocks. EASY. Don't upgrade or mod the suspension, it never ends well. always problems, as you can see with this one.

theres actually a fix for the high idle on the 3.3 some people have swapping them in other stuff. Gotta add a 2mm shim in the slide.
Hey man, thanks for that suggestion, I will google this fix, maybe it'll be something useful. NitroGang!
I love you! Nitrogang forever

I'm relatively new to nitro. I have an Exceed forza so I have a ton of questions. I am wondering if I could email you with quite a few more questions
This Rc is very faster 👍🏻👍🏻 good video my bro
Look at the angle of the throttle arm and the servo when the throttle is fully closed. I think the carb is too far to the right side if the vehicle causing it to not have the proper reach to close the carb. Hard to tell on video though. Looks like if you loosen the spring collar and move the arm further you may be able to get it to close. But not sure.
Cool great video I can't run my savage because its too cold were i live
Lmfao i laughed so hard as soon as i saw the voltage of that battery go negative. Thats clearly a good battery 😂😂😂😂

how about kyosho superten fw03? can you make a video of it?
Great interesting clip. I know you said the 2.5 was the same foot print as the 3.3. But could it be shorter is why the carb hits the box?
hey my dude!, you know, I though of that too. IDK how that can be because the carbs are the same part numbers and even the engine mounts are identical on these. Its possible the 2.5 block is slightly smaller and the carb sits on it differently, even though the overall footprint is the same. Unfortunately I don't have a 2.5 motor to test fit.
Maybe the carb slide is upside down so the idle screw doesn’t go into the slot
I don’t know why people don’t like your rustler videos I’m not into nitro and I like them
Did you clean the oil spot off of the bench from the exhaust

They only have the Jata, Rustler and the T Max
hehe the negative voltage... I think its 0.297v but the old battery polarities had swapped and your tester device showing negative voltage
hey bro!! This is the X-FIles of RC right here, nothing went as expected. I glossed over a lot of issues I ran into, but solved eventually. Anyway, I checked the voltage multiple times on various sided of the battery, it's literally negative lol, must be an internal battery failure of some type. Otherwise it's the BLACK HOLE of batteries, hahaha .
still a good looking rustler
This is probably farfetched but maybe the previous owner lost the idle set screw and replaced it with a spare LSN. That could explain why the idle gap is so large.
hey my dude!! At this point even super far-fetched reasons to explain anything about the X-FILES of RC will be somewhat possible, lol. SO far I've ordered a new replica traxxas carb for only 18 bucks, that will be an interesting test to see if it's totally crap or not.
@@hybrid32494 fingers crossed
I got one with an OS engine from japan.

O.s is the way to go my man.
Like you, for more smoke, I want to put o 3.3 on a old 4-tec 2.5 ! And, like you are a pro, Wich glow do you use with your 3.3 ? 3232x only ?
Idle gap is being held by the servo that's why I won't go any lower adjust the servo you'll notice that it goes lower take the horn off your servo turn it towards the carburetor one click
Makin nitro great again 🤣🤣🤣 I love it
The 2.5 and 2.5R can fit in it putting a 3.3 in it will need modification I assume ik the R and the regular 2.5 fits with ease
That's awesome
I love my nitro rustler
Um the big screw is your idle set screw that small one is your high end. Shut the idle adjuster (big screw on carb) then turn it open 2 1/2 turns you can do the same with the small high speed set screw. That is factory settings
Does the pinch test work, even if your fuel line is 1 inch long?
Now my front arms are flush with chassis how they are supposed to be
Hey hybrid I got a wrestler and I can't find parts for it nitro
whats up bro!!
Ahhhh liquid electrical tape bro! I use that sh*t in everything!! I absolutely coat my receivers in it to water proof them
whats up my dude!, THat's right!, That stuff is awesome. I've been using it for years so far without any adverse affects. I like to put some on the receiver's antenna wire right where it comes out from the case, that is is the most delicate part and usually it's pulled inside the RX box and can get loose. Hey man! Is it possible to make a rustler competitive for racing?
How fast did you managed to get it going?? I did my swap n im pulling 45mph and can't go faster
Tune it right then gear it up.

i like traxxas i still have an early 2000’s rustler with the easy start system that still runs. but I don’t like what they did to the industry in my Area, I run multiple brands and when Traxxas reps came through like the plague pushing product with the promise of higher profit $$ gains to local shops, slowly but surely most other brands were wiped out and replaced with traxxas Products pushing most everything else out. leaving guys like me that run multiple brands of RC’s to order online or drive a few hrs round trip. 5 years later the last of 6 local shops that converted to mostly one brand closed its doors a few months ago. but the shops that didn’t fall for the quick buck and kept the balance remain open but are far and few in between.
I think the original Traxxas shocks are the best....
whats up man!! I totally agree! I was not the dude who changed the original shocks, I also like them and find them terrific for what they are. you're totally right! Nitrogang baby!.
