You Do Beautiful Things

- I hope this song will encourage believers to trust God in all things, even the bad things, and just walk with him and remember who you are because of him. I hope it will bring comfort and courage to his people facing trials. Walk by faith; do not be afraid to suffer with Christ; remember he is with you and he is faithful, and, as my pastor reminds us often, "It's not about you." Because it might not be about you. Maybe God wants to love someone through you. God works everything for the good for those who love him. God wants everyone to reach repentance. That being said, God comforts; he might have us go through hard things, but he is there with us the whole time. He can strengthen you. Don't worry about the outcome; rest in Him. He does beautiful things even when we don't see it.
Also, I should probably try to re-write part of the chorus because I don’t want it to be misleading. When I say, “you want everyone to know just how kind, how tender, how good you are; so I’ll be kind, I’ll be gentle…” I am not advocating never speaking boldly. Sometimes that is necessary if you really love someone. It’s a hard balance but Jesus can help us get it right as we love him, and, with his strength, love those around us by our words and actions. This song is my personal realization from the other side of the spectrum: when someone isn’t obeying the word, and you already have sought to be an example to them, and to love them anyway, and to speak whatever necessary exhortation/rebuke they need to hear, and they still don’t repent, it’s more like realizing that I can’t force anything. I still have to love them. It’s about being completely surrendered even at my own expense, even though it’s heartbreaking to watch people live in sin despite our best efforts, and not becoming bitter toward them but continuing to love them. And sort of realizing that if the rebuke is not effective, there may be a deeper heart issue at the root; they might not know God. And that is very sobering.
This is a great article regarding speaking gently vs boldly, both done in love: “Uprooting Sensibility: The Plain Speech of Godly Men” by Greg Morse. You can find it by searching for it on desiringGod.org.
Lyrics:
You’re picking up the broken pieces, Lord
Though its painful
You are with me, Lord, you comfort, You’re faithful
You do beautiful things
You do beautiful things
I won’t stop you now
Do beautiful things some way, somehow
You are patient
You’re not slow
You want everyone to know
Just how kind, how tender, how good you are
So I’ll be kind; I’ll be gentle
Lord, my heart to You is surrendered
I won’t focus on myself anymore
Your love is worth living and dying for
I can trust in Your unfailing grace
It is only by blood that I am saved
You’ve done a beautiful thing
And it makes my heart sing
I can’t wait to see You do beautiful things someway, somehow
Because You’re patient
You’re not slow
You want everyone to know
Just how kind, how tender, how good you are
So I’ll be kind; I’ll be gentle
Lord, my heart to You is surrendered
I won’t focus on myself anymore
You’re love is worth living and dying for
Yes, I see the raging sea
Stretching farther than my eyes can see
And I hear Pharoah’s army coming after me
But as I wait on You, I’ll sing
Because, Lord, You have promised me
And I know that You’ll do beautiful things even if I don’t see it now
You whisper softly through Your word
The love you have for me is sure
So break my heart however You will, Lord
I want to see your kingdom come
I want Your will right now be done
My heart belongs to You, Jesus
My heart belongs to you, Lord
My soul belongs to You, Jesus
My mind belongs to You, Lord
I belong to You
My heart belongs to You, Lord
My soul belongs to You, Jesus
My mind belongs to You, Lord
Oh, I belong to You, Lord
And you are patient
You’re not slow
You want everyone to know
Just how kind, how tender, how good you are
So I’ll be kind; I’ll be gentle
Lord, my heart to You is surrendered
I won’t focus on myself anymore
You’re love is worth living and dying for
