    Great review and good example of being patient with a bottle. For a "not very complex dram, you found a not of notes in there. Thanks for the review, Jim.

      Cheers Bud. This definately has complexity but, it's so creamy, fruity and (dare I say) smooth, that I feel it works better as a whole, balanced thing rather than lots of little things playing well together. 🤔 don't even know if that makes sense to me but...😉😄😄
      Thank you my friend. Have a great holiday season.

    I recently bought a bottle of Tobermory 12 after passing it by for quite awhile and holy crap I should have bought this sooner! This and the Craigallachie 13 are now my two favorite non peated drams.

    I think Distel have done a great job with the Tob 12, Deanston 12 and the Bunna 12. At this stage of my whisky journey, if I could have 3 whiskies for the rest of my life ... they would be these ... OK and maybe the Arran 10. I'm getting a Ben Nevis 10 and Glencadam 10 for my Christmas, so that short list may change! :). Again, Merry Christmas, Jim. Looking forward to 2022 with you and the channel. :)

      Cheers Rich. I'll have to get a Ben Nevis 10 in my life. If the 2 indy samples of their whisky I've had recently are anything to go by...it's class stuff.
      And yes totally agree on Distell. Easy to keep us whisky heads interested in your product when it's released with that quality.
      Merry Christmas my friend. See you in 22 🤞

    Thanks Jim. I think I had a Tobermory 10 in an Advent and was not impressed but later had a sample of the 12 and found it much better in comparison. Cheers and hope you and yours have a great Holiday Season!

    Thanks Jim. Funny that I can find Ledaig but not Tobermory where I am. Distell has a great trio of distilleries that seem to be really hitting their stride at the moment with that magical 46.3, nat color, and no chill filtration. Might have to add this to my shopping bag of bottles to be shipped. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

      Cheers Bill. I visited Deanston distillery in the summer and it pretty much completely bypassed me what Distell had achieved. I think, because I'd spent a week in Diageo and other large "less associated" (shall we say) distilleries...it completely slipped my mind about Deanston's ownership and connection to Tobermory and Bunnahabhain. Needless to say, I was like a kid in a candy store 😁😁. Distell will always get my vote while they keep doing what they're doing.
      Merry Christmas my friend.

    Solid review. You enjoy it more than me. I get the creamy and fruit, but not that much chocolate. Still, I enjoyed the bottle, just will not rush to replace. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hope you have a great holiday break!

    Sounds pretty interesting Jim, plus a damn good price point. I haven't ventured down the Tobermory route yet, but should I see it, I keep your review in mind. Top review, as usual, mucker. Have a fantastic Christmas and best wishes to you and your family. Sláinte.

    Deanston 12 plus red licorice this for me.
    Really reminded me of the DN12.
    Same caramel, same fresh zesty maltiness. I think I would put the two side by side.
    Despite red licorice not being my thing at all.

    I really enjoyed this one Jim but I haven't bought another for some reason. I definitely will buy again because it was so easy drinking, but there is more and more good stuff on the radar at the moment. Cheers Jim, all the best for 2022.

    Good review, as always! Tobermory 12 is one of my favorites. It taught me that whisky doesn’t have to be peated to be good. To me it reminds me a bit of Deanston 12, but I like the Tobermory 12 better.
    Merry Christmas and Happy new year!

    • @WhiskeyNovice
      @WhiskeyNovice 2 роки тому +2

      Cheers. Funny, the Deanston 12 was one of the bottles I had in mind as a comparison. I think the only reason I didn't suggest it was because of the Distell link. It all felt a bit obvious to me even though I'd agree with you that there are similarities.
      Merry Christmas.

    Yeah I’m of a similar opinion. My bottle is at about the same level as yours and it’s improved quite a bit. It was a bit too floral / herbal early on. Definitely one for the Arran fans. Been curious about Wolfburn for some time. Merry Xmas Jim and look forward to hearing your whisky of the year and to more reviews on 2022.

    Got one of these when it first came out. It's very nice but I just didn't connect with it that well. Think I remember when it came out that it's a combination of bourbon sherry and a little bit of virgin oak ? Merry Christmas to you and your family Jim.

    good decent review. Only had a few samples of this, which didn't blow me out of the water tbh, but perhaps this deserves another chance. Like Drew said, the Tobermory 10 was a bit 'meh', but everyone keeps telling me the 12 is a big step up from that one.

    • @WhiskeyNovice
      @WhiskeyNovice 2 роки тому +1

      Cheers Menno. I honestly don't think it is a groundbreaking whisky in any way but, at the same time, I couldn't really put my finger on one thing wrong with it. It's a bit of a strange one.

    Wolfburn??? You pull that out of thin air. I was really digging the Aurora, young, very reasonably priced and really nice malt. Don't see much else lately. I was sort of waiting for it to come of age and here you go talking about it again.
    On the other hand the Tobermory 12 showed up like a ghost and then disappeared last year. Very expensive 12 year old so Ihaven't actually opened it yet. But I am drinking a 21 and a 20 year old, both at higher ABV. Tremendous whiskys.
    Where does it say natural color? I am a total fan but all my official bottles are the same dark color, Ledaig included.

    • @WhiskeyNovice
      @WhiskeyNovice 2 роки тому

      Natural colour stated on their website Matt.. Poor form that you have to go looking for it but...there it is
      Yeah, the Wolfburn was a little out of left field but did, for me, have similarities.
      Cheers man.
