Missing Tony Grieg and Richie Benaud even in 2020. Legends.
I think I miss Richie more than any other public figure to have passed in my lifetime. His voice was the soundtrack to my summers for many many years. Cricket just isn't the same without him.
Plus 1. To me his voice meant that somewhere in the world I was summer and cricket was being played
Agree, his knowledge, humour and the fact that he would give his opinion. To me the greatest sports broadcaster ever, suited cricket perfectly. Also see Barry Davies for football, Peter Alliss golf and Cliff Morgan Barbarians v All Blacks 82.
Me to
At least we don't have to listen to Michael Slater anymore
1000%,every now and then I remember him along side Richie benaud and bill lorry
All the old greats are gone now..I am 43 and was
privileged to grow up hearing and seeing these guys.
Absolutely true words boss
Bill Lawry is still fighting on.
Agreed... And atm there are no legends to take their place. These days the Aussie Larakin cricketer would be cut from the team for merely looking sideways at the umpire. Sledging's been banned, and political correctness has steralized the game. I could barely name any of the Australian cricket team now because they're not there long enough to know. And the only time the media talk about them is when one of them play up in a bar somewhere.
I am 45 and heard them in my entire childhood
Poor Richie Benaud he looks devastated. Hope there having a marvelous time in heaven.
Both enjoying a drink with max walker.
Tony Grieg commentary + Sachin Batting = AWESOME!!!!!!
Sharjah series ❤️
One of the worst thing ever happened to Australian cricket is channel 9's loss of broadcasting rights
Richie Benaud was my most favorite cricket commentator ever. I grew up listening his commentary.
An absolute Gentleman.
Max, Ritchie and Tony may they Rip.. Thank u for being the soundtrack to my winter.
Summer is not the same these days without the old wide world of sports commentators, and the iconic music...
RIP dear Sir Tony Greig. Much love from Sri Lanka ..........!!!
I miss the Lawry - Greig banter so much. What a wonderful ambassador for cricket Tony Greig was. A cricket brain without peer. Thanks so much for the enjoyment you gave millions of people around the world.
Best days ever Richie you Legend. Hasn't been the same ever since
Gragiee,Richee, they are voice of 🏏 absolute legends

Watching this would bring a tear to a glass eye👏👍
The golden years of cricket 🏏
Absolute super star 💫 miss tony and Richie I have been blessed to have listened to these guys growing up,
I still mis these guys even now in. 2021. As a 46 year old
God bless 🙏🏻🏏
My lasting memory of Tony was attending a Pakistan West Indies game at the SCG, I was seated in the ladies stand of the members section and after the game I saw Tony stop pose for photos, sign autographs and talk with a group of disabled children for quite some time. One really nice gentleman.
Its like a book granny has, the pages are thinning but the memories remain. Thank goodness for the technology of today that allows us to watch it all over again.....and again....and again.
Tony and all old is gold
His voice was so beautiful.tony the great man
"The car park is full and we are going to see some carnage out here today" -Tony Greig
Tony voice was just music
A nice human being
Ian Chappell is another gem
Sad they loss the broadcasting.. it's not the same without the 9 team.
Will it b coming back any soon
Choked up during the introduction. Such memories
Ditto here, bro :(
3:37 "The urn returns to Australia"
What a voice, Bill Lawry 😊
The urn remains at Lord's, the property of M.C.C.
I'm 35 years old, one of my first Tony Greig memories, was his commentary at the MCG, the Steve Waugh sight screen catch, probably the best piece of play by play to this day. He was my favorite commentator, the WWOS combox will never be as good as it was throughout the 80s-90s.
Today's crossover commentators like Brayshaw, frigging horrible.
Thanks for the upload mate.
+Matthew Caligari You are welcome mate! He was my favorite too. Sachin's iconic Sharjah innings wouldn't have felt the same for television viewers without his commentary.
One of the greatest. Made an impact as a player but most as a visionary. The first to see the light of professional cricket leagues. God bless Tony. Rest in peace, sir.
Miss u tony and rich benaud
Tony Greig will always have a special place in any Sri Lankan's heart. RIP uncle Tony. Thank you. You are missed :'(
@Kashif Shabbir He loves Srilanka.. he is biased to Srilanka.. but as Indian, I love Tony's commentary.
What a classy guy Richie was.
This guy was a genius in the commentary box with Bill and watching cricket just isn't the same without him. It's a changing of the guard with Richie, Bill and Tony not there anymore and the new crop have big shoes to fill to get the laughs that these blokes got. RIP Tony Greig. Gone, but thanks to things like UA-cam he will never be forgotten. Thanks for the upload.
BozdezKnows My pleasure mate.
Tony, Richie and Max walker. gosh i miss the 90s.
The only South African/ Englishman I genuinely liked and respected. Cannot believe it's nearly 10 years. Looking back on that I now know why I don't watch cricket anymore, it's not the game, it's the people that helped us understand it.
I am big fan of Tony greig electrifying commentary voice
I saw Tony Greig play once, in the 3rd Test of the 1977 Ashes, at Trent Bridge. Greig was still selected as a player throughout that series despite being sacked from the England captaincy three months earlier. He took a superb slip catch to dismiss Rod Marsh in Australia's 2nd innings.
Missing Tony, Richie so much.
Miss channel 9's commentary, grew up on their voices.
Tony Greig was a breath of life to beleaguered England fans at that time. England was second-rate, lacked any real fight or talent, and was going nowhere.
they could still beat their rate teams given the right conditions and a bit of luck but simply did not have what it takes to dominate a game of cricket or inspire young fans. Contrast the current England team with that of the early '70s. To say that there is a clear all-around improvement in fitness, commitment, enthusiasm, depth of genuine talent, fighting ability and general competitiveness is a massive understatement. This is in spite of improvements in all other cricket-playing nations, with the exception of the West Indies.
England has had their outstanding individuals since the war, but IMO English cricket has never been in better shape both at the grassroots and International level.
What Tony Greig did was make fans see that English TMC was not just a game for middle-class mummy's boys, on a jolly before getting a serious or proper job. Its future if it had one was proper perfectionism both as a sport and as a form of entertainment.
Oh my godness this is huge six oh boy . pindi express has left the station ..we love tony craig his voice his agression excitement always remember
RIP TONY!!. The golden voice of cricket..Cricket commentary just isnt the same without TONY.."They are dancing in the isles in Sharjah"
Little man hits the big fellow !!! What a player !!what a wonderful player ....sachhiiinnn tenduuulkaar
Richie Benaud and Tony Greg where the voices of Aussie summer
It’s not the same now with 7 commentating (and sucking at it)
Greig , Lawry , Benaud were legends. Now ABC is cattle class.
Mark Nicholas hosting with how great a presenter he is ! Richie Benaud's voice is music to my ears - absolutely mesmerising every word as if i want him continue forever. Unfortunately we dont have many up to the level of Chappell & Taylor in the box barring few random appearances from Holding, David Lloyd and Harsha Bhogle.
Got greigeys autograph in rushcutters bay bottle shop..."no problem, gotta keep the fans happy "
Tony Grieg reached god level commentary in 1998 Sharjah . Sachin was playing best inning of his life on the field and Tony was doing best commentary of his life in the box . What a voice he had . Amazing.
Max Walker and Richie Benaud have both died since this programme was made. RIP.
Two Poms that I hate to say that I admire, Kevin Peterson and Tony Grieg
richard enston Ironically both of them are South African...
It's true, anyone who has played cricket since the 80s has at one time tried to stick a key in the pitch.
The world cricket miss you and your wonderful voice Tony greig.......
Tony made cricket more interesting. Personally to me, who didn't knew English well enough, his commentary was up at the very top in terms of excitement.
Brilliant video, thanks so much for uploading this!
Michael Fallon My pleasure mate!
Legend has it , Viv still blasting Thompson and....Tony still commenting,"O boy...Viv Richards probably decided, that tonight is going to be his night"...Tony , Bill Benuad n Cozier .... circket not the same without them
best voice of cricket
The era of cricket where the commentary lineup was just as important as the playing team. Cricket commentary died with Ritchie, Tony and Bill.
Bill is still alive dickhead yaa he isnt commentating because he Wont to it with people like isha gua on corrupt Fox.You would have mentioned tony cozier he was best.
Summer was Greg, Bill, Ritchie, Chris Martin Jenkins, Blowers, Jack Banister, Arlot, Johnners, Max, Fiery Fred, Barnicle Bailey and Bumble either retired or passed on, what a loss they are.
TONY WAS GREAT AT VOICE READING THE SITUATIONS N WORDS SELECTION A PERFECT XAMPLE OF BALL TO BAT BAT TO TREATMENT THEN TO THE CREATING OF SCENES OF AROUND N SURROUND. A TOWERING PERSONALITY.
Awsome team richie bill and tony very nice good comentry
The game is not the same!
I am a teacher. I learnt from Tony, how actually correct English is spoken. English has never been my first language.
I will not forget his voice. Ind vs Australia Sharjah.. He said, Sachin Tendulkar wants to win the match .... what a great commentator he is
The old days have gone
I remember toy Greg when I was a young kid great player always liked to take on the best bowlers lille tommorow and the rest rip Tony Greg legend
In the intro. 'We all love cricket' I must have blinked when the 2010/11 Ashes series was mentioned.
One of the greatest cricket commentators ever
Thanks for uploading man.Great video. Tony and Richie gave cricket of 90s which I grew up watching a different aura to it.Can you upload Tony's commentaries montage from 1997-98 sharjah cup ..RIP Tony and Richie
+Abhijit Salunkhe Thank you for watching. You can enjoy those famous sharjah innings and listen to Tony's commentary here. ua-cam.com/video/mDD-9Tgg10o/v-deo.html and the one against Henry Olonga too here. ua-cam.com/video/WCOlCkzOnXg/v-deo.html
Abhijit Salunkhe We've lost two of the best commentators in the game
Wow how cricket has changed and how time has changed. Lifeeee.....
He did get booed in England before W.S.C. and lost the England Captaincy and still managed to stay true to a deal that was unpopular then but transformed the whole game...Maybe a grudge is just that, 'A place to park your car.'
Tony, Richie, Bill Lawry. My all time favourites in the commentary box.
Tony Grieg and Bill Lawry , my favorite commentators
Cricket is just not cricket in the comm box without the famous three . Greige . Benaud. And Lawry ...Thanks for the memories Tony .
Loved it!
Dear Smith, Warner, Bancroft and Lehman.
Shame.
An absolutely marvellous effort this
Max walker has such a smiley face looks like out of loony tunes.
I remember Tony Greig in Nepal 1998.
TU Ground...
Miss you
You only realise how good the likes of Grieg, Lawry and Benaud were when they are replaced by the awful Brayshaw and Healy!!!
RIP Grieg and Benaud both will be sorely missed,
Ned Absolutely. Now only Bill and Chappeli remain from the golden era of cricket!
Ned Stuff brayshaw!! Cricket isnt the same anymore :(
humans are supposed to improve, but we havent managed to improve cricket commentary since Richie Benaud/Ton Greig/Bill Lawry ... it also took 100 years for Albert Einstein's gravitational wave theory to be proven. Legends are legendary.
....and now we have women commentators.
Bill retired recently
Watching this brings back amazing memories of summer of cricket. I remember just before channel 7 took over cricket the last test played on TV for Channel 9 they played Richie saying the right here on the home of cricket 9’s one and only wide world of sport. I felt emotional.
Met him once at a shindig at Parliament House in Brizzie. Taller than I expected, and one of the nicest most giving public figures I've met. And I agree, Aussies first hated him then loved him, for the same reasons, cos he's bloody well like us! haha. I Miss Summer's with you, 'Bull', and the rest of the commentary crew mate!
Miss u tony
The video is more like a funeral... Crickets never been the same since. I dont even bother watching anymore the spirit of cricket is dead
Legend.
RIP SIR !!! IMPECCABLE MAN , CAPABLE OF TAKING WORLD ON HIS ARTISTIC WAY OF TALKING FO SHO !!!🤞🙏✌💎🥇🏆👌, FINGERS CROSSED, AMEN
RIP sir from Pakistan.
Thanks for sharing the video m8. Classic intro. by Richie & a great video about Tony. Channel 9 Commentary is the best in the world.
Tony is one of my favourite commentators!
GreenPlanet : No offence m8, but i think Nicholas & Healy are still good compared to the other 2 you've mentioned.
earth Have you even read his column on ESPN? He's a damn sight more insightful than most of the Australian commentators, and always has been an excellent cricket writer.
earth Really? I honestly thought Brayshaw and Slater were more irritating to listen to than Nicholas, and his commentary style isn't that obnoxious. But I guess he's not for everyone.
www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2015/feb/13/channel-nine-destroying-cricket-legacy This article absolutely rips apart the Channel nine Comm team.
God bless u Tony.
And God bless u Richie.
Man. I still miss his voice in cricket commentary. Do u have any other videos of Tony?
Download the 12th Man. Lol
Me too!
I think we all do mate.
India and rest of the world are missing tony
Great memories!!! Loved the part where the slip cordon graphic setting went wrong couple of times
ty for upload
I enjoy how greig used to wind up the aussie, if it was packer or test cricket he loved getting at the aussies,
Benaud looked like he was about to die on set....
Great
legends in cricket commentators
Channel 9 the best
Richie voice of cricket
Shame on 9 for letting 7 get the rights.
Tony Greig was a brave captain and cricketer he was a good player of fast bowling while the likes of Boycott had a sabbatical.. He selected David Steel
How many times does Mark Nicholas have to blink
now like both are gone feel like part of cricket has died
This opening music is from the world series right? Gets me nostalgic about my 90s. Brian Lara cricket on sega, the aussie summer. Anyone know where I can download it from?
