That math question guess is so godly. Last second guess based on a rough idea of around 10 but slightly less just goes to show how smart Boxbox is overall to get the right answer while doing it wrong

It is literally 9th grade math and everyone over the age of 20 should be able to do it in the maximum of 2 minutes. That was a little embarrassing not a display of intelligence.

@@UltimateEarthElement obviously but we are not talking about integration derivation trigonometry or anything even slightly more complicated. Something like forgetting the Pythagoras theorem for a triangle is completely understandable. This however is different, everyone should be able to do percentages addition multiplication division fractions and this is a problem of simple multiplication addition problem with a tiny bit of logic. This is not a problem of remembering a formula, it's a tiny bit of thinking with some addition.

To simplify the 40% discount question for anybody (like Emiru) who has forgotten or simply not known how to calculate it, if you know the discount amount and the discounted price, you simply divide by the inverse. Mathematically, what it looks like is this: X is your unknown so your formula is X (the original price) = 375 (the discounted price) + .4X (40% of X, also represented as 2/5X). So you isolate your variable by subtracting .4X from each side. You now have .6X=375, so to arrive at the full value of X (or 1X) you divide each side by .6 to land at the formula needed, X=375/.6
But again, the simplest way is to just remember that the starting value is 100% (represented as the number 1) and if you know there was a 40% discount (.4) you just divide by the difference (1-.4=.6) so 375/.6
Also, for the paper question (which I myself struggled hard to remember how to calculate lol) Hungrybox did not show the work properly so I will explain. We know the total cost of cases is 720, and the number of cases is 20, giving us the average cost per case of $36 (720/20). If we compare that to the $35 that our expected average would be with equal cases (40+30=70, then 70/2 (number of parts) is 35) that tells us there are more premium than white, because the average exceeds the cost of the expected, and thus is pulled higher by the case with greater cost. As for how much more, we take the differential again. Here, we subtract the differences in cost, 40-30 is 10. So we have a differential range of $10 per case. 0 would represent all cases being white, 10 would represent all cases being premium. Since we are $6 over the cost of the lower end, that tells us that 60% (6/10) of the total cases were the higher cost, and thus premium, not white. And when we check the math, it works out. 20*.6=12 cases of premium ($480), leaving 8 as white ($240).
Also did not pronounce "Prussian" correctly. It is pronounced exactly like "Russian" just with a p in front. Pruh-shin.

      you overcomplicated the paper question quite a bit, you can just setup a simultaneous equation: 40x + 30y = 720, and x + y = 20

    • @kingofbudokai
      @kingofbudokai 2 роки тому

@@TheMaxMyster I fail to see how either of those equations give us any useful information. X+Y=20 does nothing. Isolating for variables tells us that X= 20-y, and also that Y=20-x, it tells us nothing else. Similarly, with the first equation, you are left with 4x+3y=72 after dividing by 10 to simplify, at which point when you isolate variables you have X=3/4Y+18 and Y=4/3X+24, again, neither of those providing useful information. Am I just missing something obvious here? Because those do not seem helpful. It takes less than 20 seconds to solve it my way even just doing it in my head. Your method doesn't even appear solvable.

@@kingofbudokai ok, so 40 and 30 are the prices of the premium and white paper.
x and y are the number of cases respectively.
      so we can setup the equation 40x + 30y = 720.
      We also know that x + y =20.
So we just sub in x = 20 - y, to the first equation (simultaneous equations).
      40(20 - y) + 30y = 720
      Which will give y = 8

@@TheMaxMyster Well I feel silly. Turns out I was missing something obvious lol. Your method is definitely more intuitive.

    • @nicholasng9814

To make it even simpler. if you have the discounted price then you can say it's 60 percent of the value. you want to know 100 percent of the value which is basically looking for what 1%(discounted price/60) is equal to and then multiply by 100
The carton question I just did some kind of divide and conquer genre of algorithm. Just multiply both by 10 (40* 10) + (30*10) = 700. It is short $20. difference between boxes is $10 so its obvious youll need 2 more $40 boxes and 2 less $30 boxes to close the gap from $700 to $720
