This brings me back. I grew up in EM. I moved my family out of LI to small town, PA about 6 years ago. It turned out well for us so far. I really don't miss EM- the traffic and high cost of living. I especially hated the red light cameras. I miss the beach though. I also used to love hopping on LIRR for a night out or for a networking meeting. I see the Home Depot is no longer there.
My hometown…some great memories there, especially when I was a kid. Yet, moving to Northern Virginia (after living out in Suffolk County for about 12 years) back in 2014 was for the best, given Long Island’s expensive cost of living and lack of decent paying jobs.
I use to live in this area for many years and now living in the South spreading liberalism. I was back for several days last summer, the area looks worn and congested, not like I remember so much or wanted to realize. Once you live for awhile in a newly developed area, with a mixture of suburbia and strong rural feel, one's perspective changes on where you came from. Did I really live here and endured this mess of endless stores, buildings, concrete, asphalt, houses, trucks and cars - Loudness? I looked forward to going back to my new home.
I've been gone for a while --- but it is still HOME to me. It's in my DNA.

Makes me feel good and feel sick at the same time. I miss it more than I can explain.
