Honestly, I think what would scare Two Star the most is the feeling of being in water, and then looking below, and seeing pure darkness. That's one of the scariest part of Subnautica, for example. Most of the time, you can see the bottom, and it's not a big deal. But when you go off the reef, or get to the Ecological Dead Zone, and you're literally standing on the edge of a cliff in water, seeing the vast emptiness...that shit's pretty fking creepy. I think it's one of the things that makes Thalassophobia so scary. And the best part is that you don't need it to be dark normally. You could be swimming on the surface, in the broad daylight, and if you still look down, and see the emptiness, it's unnerving to say the least. At that point, you wouldn't even need a shark, and it would probably be enough, tbh.
A few piece of constructive criticism I would've had is: 1. The player needs exposure to the danger, before the danger is even real. (the voiceover mentions banging on the walls. A thing you could've done is add a pre-rendered ocean floor, and a window. that way you can utilize the environment and the sherk even more than you currently are.) 2. The player either needs A. more detailed environment (I saw that grid floor, I would've loved more of that instead of the grey floor, I'm gonna guess he didn't due to the oil not overlapping/meshing well) or B. a less repetitive environment. (this can be faked by adding by textural designs like scratches, windows, small dents in the walls and pipelines). Absolutely loved both of the videos from Two Star and Barji. Great games, keep it up!
Some feedback as the player gets hit would be a good idea. like knockback, also being underwater: the murky dark below and a slower transition of the model coming into view. Horror is about tension and anticipation then slow/fast scary release. Love what you do good work man. inspiring me to make a horror game now.
Fun fact: 0:19 the video on the screen is a whale shark, they are the largest living shark in the world and they are completely harmless to humans, they only eat small fish and plankton
If only you knew about Tugs, that would make the perfect thalassophobia horror game especially if you use Tomska's theory as inspiration for the plot and monsters.
I have tried bits in the past but I cant seem to produce anything especially with my lack of coding knowledge and my short attention span I struggle to keep on track with no motivation.
my worst nightmare ever was me and 19 other people woke up in a lawn with a house and a well in the middle of nowhere for somereason everyone hears a bellowing scream and rushes inside later on we figure out there is a monster long white skinny with pointy sharp teeth and arms with leather laced around them... its able to open and unlock doors to. we figure out aswell its invisible outside but visible inside so we would have one person to gaurd the door at all times until they see it unlock then they know to run, but when there were only 5 people remaining (including me) it was my turn to watch the door, i see it unlock everyone hides but its spots me so it chases me up the stairs and there is a dead end causing me to jump down the stairs and die.... then i woke up i will remember this for the rest of my life (even though it was just a dream)

Imagine slowly seeing the teeth of the shark, just emerging from the shadows, then the shark itself, right underneath you.
Yeah the end was really confusing
Feels like iron lung
Subnautica beneath the floating island is probably the most horrifying thing I've experienced in gaming

pretty sure Two Star uses UE but it’s scary nonetheless
