Good evening Ed. Sorry your day turned out the way it did. Had a similar thing happen probably 30 years ago. They weren't my calves but we're they guy l was working for back then. The calves hadn't been weaned too long and the steers got spooked and ran through the fence and ran within about a quarter of a mile from the hiway which was 2 miles away before we got them stopped. I forget how many fences they ran through. When they came to a fence they would run right through it. It happened in the morning and was late afternoon when we got them back home.
@curtiswolf313 good evening Curtis. It can happen.. we've dropped steers off and had them take off... After being paid for and after leaving the place. We've also help try to find others that have done the same. He was spotted twice tonight. Last time, he's about a half mile south of the guys place. At noon when we lost his tracks, he was 3/4 of a mile, or farther, west . He's done some running around in the brush!! Would sure be nice if he makes his way back to the guys place in the morning.. and he'll get prepared for freezer camp..🤞🤞🤞🤞

That's real crappy about your calf running away Ed, sometimes I feel like if it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck, and I'm sure you felt the same before. That preg checking is kind of a crapshoot. We bought a few cows at the sale barn in December that were supposed to be 5 to 6 months bred, 1 calved already in another one is bagging up, so we'll see how close the vet was on the rest of them😂. The fat cattle market is pretty good by us right now got $2.16 for some fat heifers at the sale barn this past Wednesday. But when we were watching the sale, the buyers sure like black ones, they had a nice ring full of herefords that were nice and fat, brought eight bucks less per hundred than if they would have been black hide cattle.
