For rise of the resistance, not so much. It goes through a breakdown at least one to two times a day, just due to how complex the ride is. Kylo, being the most advanced animatronic to date, is broken more often than not these days, and they use a screen instead.
Break down malfunction list, this should be interesting 1st at 1:38 to 1:54 we have the General Hux animatronic not working and frozen on the spot, oh well 🤷♂️ 2nd at 2:00 Kylo Ren delays his appearance until 2:03 normally when the bright light comes on, he comes straight down, activates his lightsaber and walks over to us 3rd: from 2:20 to 2:34 the 1st cannon works, but other then the lights work, the other 3 cannons don’t move an inch, oh well 🤷♂️ 4th: at 2:58 the Kylo Ren Animatronic shut down including the mechanics behind him and a piece that covers Kylo is missing apparently, then listening to the repeated music whilst watching the frozen lifeless Kylo Ren until we finally move at 6:47 And finally at 7:10 the ride drop was working fine but missing the music that was meant to play over while crashing back, then the ride is over. Sorry for the long probably boring list, just thought I’d say those, and I think this video deserves more views and notice, this is a really great video, gave it a 👍
@FantasmicElf Can't say much for the other effects but I'm pretty sure the 2nd Kylo and thereafter was due to a backup at unload/load meaning all the vehicles had to halt and stop cycling. It makes sense that some effects after that were out of sync due to already passing the triggers or just the timing being off due to the vehicle having stopped. You can tell there was already a backup because when they entered the room where Kylo is they were able to see vehicles waiting for the 'escape pods' when that normally wouldn't happen. Super interesting timing though right as the explosion was supposed to happen.
I went to Disneyland on the 3rd, and the drop down, blade, and cannon weren’t working (aside from the lights) but everything else was working just fine.
I was chatting with a cast member the other day and he told me that breakdowns on RotR happen all the time. Most of the time it's something that's dropped on the ground and caused the sensors to stop the ride. Usually a hat or someone's ears. He said that they have to evacuate the ride, retrieve the item, reset everything, run the ride through once, and then they can start boarding again. That's why it takes almost an hour. And those pods run on batteries and don't always charge at night, leaving them with fewer pods than needed. It's a cool ride and it has a lot of potential points of failure.
This ride breaks down all the time. It's so complex, It's really not surprising. But, considering you can easily spend over $300 for a day at Disneyland and 90 minutes waiting to ride this attraction if you are lucky enough to even get a chance to ride it, it kinda takes a lot of fun out of your visit , even if it is a really great attraction. The first two times my friends went to Rise of the Resistance, it was broken all day.
Reminds me of when Splash Mountain first opened back in '89. It was always a toss up whether you'd get on because it broke down so often. And that ride is nowhere near as complex as RotR.
yeahhhh if yall really knew how many moving parts go into this ride, the real question would honestly be "How many times a day can this ride operate and NOT manage to break down somewhere" lol
The problem is the budget cuts Disney has made particularly to things like maintenance This is essentially why they have that lame screen based finale on this ride, the one with Kylo Ren in the tie fighter
That ride breaks down a lot. When it happened to use last year it was at the very end as soon as we exited to the outside. We sat their for about 10 minutiae. The droid “argued” with Finn for about 2 minutes on the radio then it got quite until we started moving again. I wasn’t mad though, after 2hrs 20min in line, I was just happy to be seated.

Went to disney today and ROTR broke down TWICE, we were going to queue when the wait time was 85 minutes but my dad thought that was ages (i told him that was NOTHING compared to usual) and we had Smugglers Run booked. We came out of Smugglers Run and saw the ride had broken down again!!! NOT happy, Disney. Not happy at all.
It was broken down most of the day a couple of weeks ago. We tried to get on it around 8:30 pm. and the queue still had a 4 hour wait. Unfortunately we did not make it on the ride this year.
Both nights at Disneyland got boarding group 194 each night ride broke down we got as far as all the storm troopers. BOTH NIGHTS!!! Disney thought you could do better 🤦🏻♂️ only had a 2 day hopper too !
So how does it work technically? Are the vehicles moving into the rooms/scenes, activating the animatronics? It doesnt seem to all be on a predetermined sequence. So this particular incident was because the cars stopped, not because of the Kylo Ren figure. It stopped the second before the car was meant to jolt back in the explosion right? So when it was reset it just simply went to the new scene- the escape pods.
It should have been OT/Rogue One themed Can you imagine if it was Darth Vader at the end of this ride?! Disney would be rolling in dough With that they could afford the constant maintenance needed on this ride (that it clearly rarely receives)

Actually it's great timing! This is a very rare breakdown. It's not often you see Kylo not working while the animatronic is actually in view. I've never seen a video of this before. This video deserves more views.
