I always get a little down walking past silver street. A lot of the old buildings have survived there. Barely. But I I’m super happy with the new danum museum gallery and library. It’s super nice to see all that rail history on display.
@@petermw88 do you remember a “David Walter alter” who would dress as a schoolboy and roam the area? He also wore white makeup and was quite unsettling.
It should never have been pulled down but like all towns and cities across the UK the car was the transport of the future and in 2021 a tram system would be too expensive to rebuild. At least the council are starting to put in some cycle lanes
Great presentation James.👍. How our town and virtually every other one in the UK has been dismantled from style and grace, to cheap short lived eye sores. Who decided that diesel buses were an advanced step away from electric trams. We're advancing backwards.
I first set foot in Donny in 58 en route to RAF Finningley when the place had heart even if it was a pain at times due to traffic I dont think the planners have done it any favours over the years, my last visit was in 85 for the Battle of Brittain weekend.
We could look similar to York but the ugly Frenchgate and road spoil it for us! Such a shame. We have a fair bit of "tourism" with the races but could have more if we were pretty. It makes me sad to see these pictures!
The irony of fate is that English cities remained almost intact during the Second World War. And the greatest damage was done by the English themselves . Because of bad architecture.
Yes very sad that the historical buildings are being destroyed. Lost a lot of its character to be turned in to the same uniform shops as everywhere else.
The sad part is,, Doncaster looked better before the frenchgate and the ring road was built.
Agree
I'm sure it was the arndale Centre when I was a kid in the 80s.

Great video! The last one is almost enough to make you cry.
Thankyou,brings back fond memories.
Just found this. Doncaster was my home and I remember a lot of the old buildings sad to see them go. Excellent transitions
@@paulxxx-ml6ry do you remember a “David Walter alter” who would dress as a schoolboy and paint his face and roam the area.
very interesting. I left Doncaster in about 1998 ,, can't say I ever looked back,
It looked better before! Fantastic video! Thank you. Loved the music too.
You made me cry. 🙂 Doncaster is my home town.

@HaydenRising sorry, no I dont
Fantastic this James a Brilliant job hope you do more of Doncaster like this in the future 👍
Thanks for this , brilliant.. change doesn’t always mean for the better
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, it was really well done. I hope James you do more videos similar to this in other towns and cities. It is history.
Doncaster was a lovely town!
This is brilliantly done.
Excellent video thanks for all your hard work👍
The fact that it shows my school is amazing as I can see what it was like back then
BRILLIANT graphics...Thank you.
I remeber cones in the centre for over 15 years lol visiting 2/3 years... I could swear I saw the same cones in the same places 5-6 years apart..
It's crazy to see just how much that Donny town centre has changed throughout the years. Brilliant video 👍
love this video. thank you
Doncaster had a tram system? Mad.

That was brilliant.
I kind of just want to go into the past to experience this

great video! I used to live around the corner of Christ Church in Broxholme Lane. :)
Nicely done
Great to see Donny town centre as it was before I was born.
That is dope! 🐎
AWESOME
What a fantastic video, but it is rather depressing to watch. Our once beautiful town has been vandalized beyong relief.
Doncaster was once a beautiful town, all you have to do is look at the architecture above the shops fronts.. Hallgate was mainly residential.
Things looked much better way back

My Grandad was also based at RAF Finningley. Ralph O'Neil is his name, don't suppose it rings a bell?
It's so amazing!!!!
I think I prefer Doncaster in 1905.
Excellent video, very well put together, enjoyed that! Well done, new sub from me 👍
Thanks! You might enjoy my second channel which brings to life lost British railways from above! ua-cam.com/channels/OJUemKHBb_iJlchhK5EVFQ.html
You’re welcome, it’s a very professional looking video this one, enjoyed it! Oh fantastic il take a look at that too 👌👍
I love doncaster but I love the past doncaster more
Well done council over the years you have run down one of the best towns in England
Great video the church is the only thing that looks beautiful now 😁😁
Last ones a shocker.
我去年在這𥚃買了房子,我很喜歡這個地方°各位鄰居,你們好,請多多指教。
Well made and edited, the music was.approiate for the time lapses.Good video.
Doncaster looked better back in 1907 compared to today!
Fantastic.......
Great stuff...well done!

I love how there is 6 people that don't like the past... Absolute 🛎 ends.
Who ever aloud the French gate to be built should be locked away. The town looked so much better before
Yes very sad that the historical buildings are being destroyed. Lost a lot of its character to be turned in to the same uniform shops as everywhere else.
I grew up here. I never realised how hideous the frenchgate is until I got older.
tartaria
Why was all the beautiful architecture replaced by horrible buildings
Someone at one time thought they would be 'modern.'
Town full of Leeds fans
What relevance has that got to do with this video
@@kjn6505 it’s a true observation of the Town.
Frenchgate ruined it
So they gradually made it look like a shit hole.
