Amtrak P42 Locomotive - Phase 7 Paint Scheme

- In 2022, Amtrak debuted its newest livery for its railroad equipment. Dubbed Phase VII, this is the 7th nation wide paint scheme in the company's history. Two years later, in January of 2024, Amtrak began to apply the livery to all P42DC locomotive repaints as the locomotives come due for new paint. Amtrak says that as many as 12 P42s will be repainted by the end of the year. On May 11th, 2024, I filmed the 4th P42 locomotive to be painted in Phase VII, number 138. I followed the locomotive through Oregon and Washington as it pulled the northbound Coast Starlight. This was the first time one of the repainted Phase VII P42 locomotives ran on the Northbound Coast Starlight. In this video, we will follow the train from Klamath Falls, Oregon to Nisqually, Washington as it passes through some beautiful Pacific Northwest scenery.

@@joshuadominictoling5310 The numbers are unknown but about a dozen should be painted by the end of the year according to an older article, with more on the way the next year.
They painted some of their MOW/utility GP-40s in phase 7 and they also look amazing.

I saw this exact train at Winlock, same day as well. I caught 138 leading A14 again weeks latet also at Winlock and I got a shave and a haircut horn salute.
The Phase VII on the P42DC for Amtrak started in late January 2024.

A number of repainted P42s have been being run on the Borealis service nearly daily. They even broke out one of the Dash-8s a week it two ago and had it leading with a phase IIV P42 trialing.

Splendid video Mike! I think the Phase VII paint fits the P42's PERFECTLY, even with the extra speck of red on the cab exterior. 138 so far has to be my favorite of the Genesis repaints.

108 is actually a Phase 6 unit. It's pretty tough to get a Phase 7 P42 if you don't live along Chicago-based routes. I managed to get 174 on the Northeast Regional before it also made its way to Chicago.

Phase VII fits best on both a Siemens Charger and the Genesis series Amtrak (in conjunction with state supporting companies) has.
I viewed AMTK 167 in Phase VII leading A11 a week or two ago.
Honestly, I like Phase 7. It has lots of Red, like Phase 1.

Loving the P7 livery and suits the P42 really nicely. All they need to do is vinyl wrap all those rolling stock into a similar livery to give the whole train a sense of togetherness.

Probably not in many years, but I'm not sure. All of the transition sleeping cars were built in 1994-96 by Bombardier.

Thank you! This was all filmed on Canon XF400 video cameras. They've been out of production for a couple years now, but there are still a number on the used market at a reasonable price.
