I was there. The sound when Henry started the bike for the first time blew us away. I remember Guy Cooper being there on a Husaberg 4 stroke too. But Doug Henry got the holeshot in the main, ran away for an epic win and changed motocross forever.

Still the best SX season in the past 25 years, IMO. If I remember right, there were 7 different winners that year? MC, Emig, Henry, Albertyn, Windham, Lusk, and Huffman. As great as MC was, he always seemed to fold against Emig when the pressure was on. Emig took away his shot at a perfect SX season in '96, Emig took the MX title at the last round in '96 and Jeremy couldn't even get up there in this race to pass Emig who was riding really tight.

250 main event. Good exciting race. I was THERE. I wanted either Jeff emig to win or Ryan hughes or Mike Craig or even damon Bradshaw. O well. That's cool Doug Henry won. That track was brutal. Lot of guys crashing. New supercross champion team Kawasaki Jeff fro daddy emig good job fro daddy

Man, a culmination of the changing of the guard. I almost felt bad for McGrath watching him get shown up time and time again all year (that year)... Another story line in this race seemed to be Ryan Hughes getting tired of being Emig's body guard. He held off his competitors all year & finally said, "hey look what I can do!".. & glad Henry finally got some recognition too... Great series that year, thanks for uploading man!

Changing of the guard? Ummm.....he barely lost this title and went on to win 3 straight in 98, 99, 2000 after this. Do you even watch, bro?

That wrench 🔧 was definitely wrong. Maybe that night, but RC proved that wrong.

The race that spelled the end of ring ding two stroke. Although to be real it was a 400 so it wasn't fair, a 250 four stroke wouldn't have even qualified.

Plus it was a full "works" 400. Yamaha was not bound by the production rule that year. That bike was loaded with handcrafted titanium, aluminum, and magnesium parts. I saw it at Glen Helen that year, and man, talk about a bike to drool over.
