I'm sure Air Refueling is difficult to Master and perform but I think @6:26 is the most difficult type of Air refueling, or at least that is what I imagine because you are dealing with a rigid type of pylon instead of a flexible pipe.

Not really, when it is a boom the receiving pilot just has to hold position under the tanker with help of lights, but with basket the receiving pilot has to chase the basket around as it moves from the airflow of his plane.

I'm surprised they never made a new design to replace it.

@@largol33t1 yet they came with the sucking idea of the F35 that is like an upgraded version of the old mighty british HARRIER AIRCRAFT!

@rsiffredi the problem is that the harrier airframe is bit obsolete, so upgrading it will require the complete redesign of the main structure using light and more efficient materials.

I flew these refueling missions for 10 years in the 1950s and 1960s with KB 29s KB 50s and KC 135s and refueled just about every type of Airforce, Navy, and Marine planes. The new KC 46 will have the capability to refuel all types if equipped with a boom off the tail and a drought on the wing pylons.

I went to flight school at MYR. Our ground intr was an ex USAF KC-135 pilot, Dwight E. Roach. What an awesome guy! He knew his stuff! «Always know where you are and what comes next» That you can transfer into all aspects of life also. People that talked behind his back said. «If you ask him what time it is, he will explain how a clock works» Me, I like those kind of people.

Badass. The closest thing I can do to come close to this is doing in with a simulator. In FSX, I have the VRS Superbug payware and the KC10 tanker freeware. Just matching speed is a chore. One knot fast you hit the taker. One knot slow and you fall away. Keeping the same altitude is also a bitch. Your movements have to be so small and so smooth that if you jerk too hard, it's over. These guys make it look like it's a walk in the park.

Interesting that the AV-8B is operating without the GAU-12 gunpods. Listening to A-10 fans you'd think that a big gun is the primary weapon for the air to ground mission. :)

You see a lot of Harriers without pods these days in theater. When carrying a nice load of JDAMs or on a long range mission, payload is really tight. Notice he is also not carrying sidewinders to save weight. Getting rid of the pod saves over 500lbs.

Guns are good for CAS, the Harrier is designed more for bombing and precision strikes

This could not be the same mission for all these planes since the B52 requires a boom whereas the fighters use a drough.
